DH and I had a very stressful time and chose not to have sex for a while. Was only 4-6 weeks without and we aren't very active generallySad. First time of doing it for the next few days I was burning and had a fishy smelling odour. On returning home saw ooh doctor and he diagnosed something beginning with t. Gave me antibiotics. Results back three days later - negative for everything Confused. I took the antibiotics as I had started them and nurse said wouldn't hurt to finish the packet.

Nurse said after being under huge stress it was my body's way of reacting and I had developed an allergy to my husband. Advised to use condoms. This we have but still the same. Burning days later and bad odour. Spoke to pharmacist, she recommended condoms and ky jelly. Apart from the fact using these two things is horrible I am still having the same reaction. Has even happened after solo orgasm but I'm not sure if delayed reaction from sex.

We can't work out if it takes longer for the burning/odour to come back if just condoms or those with the jelly though obviously I am wishing I had made a note.

I'm feeling so fed up. Our personal life has been blighted for a very long time and now that things are sorted and we are in a position to enjoy it, I'm allergic to him.

Please can anyone help?

Hello again

So into my second week of antibiotics and still no improvement. Feeling pretty stressed about it tbh.

Best place to go is your local sexual health clinic. They are fantastic. I had some problems and they were so helpful. Smile

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 30/12/2015 12:07

Thank you. I'm busy now but will look on line for one. I was planning on seeing my GP on Monday as I will have finished the antibiotics then.

I'm sure you've received the advice you needed from the previous posters but you should ALWAYS finish the packet of antibiotics!!

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 30/12/2015 16:40

Er, I did finish the packet even though I was negative for everything.

I'm now on two lots after another trip to the doctor and still not better.

Definitely go to GUM clinic. Mine were awesome when doctor was stumped, swabs for everything and treatment free

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 31/12/2015 09:53

I'll see my GP next week then go from there. Not sure the GUM clinic did well given they are testing DH for things it's impossible for him to have.

OP posts:
MedicalAdviceNeeded · 05/01/2016 13:39

Thank you to those who suggested the GUM clinic. I tried to see doctor today, wasn't allowed an appointment but GP rang. Said had to wait until DH results back but then agreed to see me later this week. Couldn't stand the pain so went to the GUM clinic.

Not got BV, not got PID. Tested for gonorrhoea and clamydia but this is likely to be negative as DH tests were back today and negative.

Given fluconazole but they don't think I have thrush. It is in the hope it clears up the burning.

Thinks I might have something I can't remember the name of but to do with pelvic pain. Would be prescribed amotryptoline ?? Suggested I see a gynaecologist.

Going to take the fluconazole and see GP later this week.

Seriously fed up!!

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 06/01/2016 17:08

Today I have had the burning again and clearly smelly as my DC asked what is that fishy smell.

I am seeing the GP tomorrow. When I spoke to her yesterday she said I had to wait until my husbands results were back, have a swab taken then be referred to a specialist. She doesn't yet know that dhs results are back and negative and the clinic have said no to BV and PID. Wouldn't test for TV.

Please can anyone tell me what I should insist happens as this has been going on since mid October and I am pretty fed up.

All tests negative.
Three lots of antibiotics.
One one off tablet.

Still not right.

anyone?

Your symptoms certainly sound like BV. You can have a negative result apparently and it's a mare to get rid of

I treated mine with diluted apple cider vinegar. Swabbed myself with it every time I went to the toilet. And no sex, husband, solo or otherwise until you are completely symptom free. The friction irritates it

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 06/01/2016 19:45

If it is BV I have had three lots of antibiotics which surely should be enough?

There been no sex for nearly four weeks.

Today I've had stomach pain as well.

This has been going on since October.

OP posts:
Imnotaslimjim · 07/01/2016 01:41

I had two lots of antibiotics and a tube of cream and nine of that worked. I ended up researching myself which is what led to me trying the apple cider vinegar. Apparently it's caused by a pH imbalance, and acv is a similar pH to that area

There is other natural remedies to try - natural yoghurt applied directly can really soothe things

MsMims · 07/01/2016 01:45

My symptoms were nowhere as severe as yours - didn't get a fishy smell but my discharge had changed when I was diagnosed with BV. It reoccurs every few months, usually after a period. The only treatment I've found that really suits me is balance activ BV gel. Metronidazole (I think it was, began with an M anyway) only sets off thrush for me, then I treat that and end up with BV again. It may be you need antibiotics as your symptoms are so severe, but could be worth trying the BV gel for the sake of about £10?

Hope you get sorted soon Flowers

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 07/01/2016 07:50

It doesn't help when the doctors are all disagreeing. All tests are negative.

I've had three lots of antibiotics. Is it because the diagnosis is wrong or the antibiotics aren't enough? I just want some answers and while the doctor said on the phone I'd have a swab done today and referral to a specialist I have no idea what she thinks is wrong. She said I had to wait until my husbands results were back. But why?!

The clinic said I could have lower pelvic something which is where the doctors can find no cause for it.

I can live with the abdominal pain. I can't live with the burning vagina with intermittent pong.

Sad.

Thank you everyone for trying to help. I'm sure everyone is bored of this thread now.

OP posts:
Imnotaslimjim · 07/01/2016 07:55

Sadly antibiotics aren't always the answer. As msmims says you can end up in a cycle of thrush and BV.

I don't understand why they're making you wait for his results. Have you had previous swabs? If not, what has tested negative?

ChipInTheSugar · 07/01/2016 07:57

Not at all - it can make you so miserable - not only the pain and odour of the symptoms but the lack of diagnosis.

For what it's worth I used to get pelvic discomfort with BV, something not often mentioned - or maybe I had what you have now?!

I think the next conversation needs to be around the fact that no one can agree what it is, nothing seems to be touching it, and so what the hell are your options now because it's unreasonable to expect you to carry on like nothing's happening. Insist on a next step.

Thanks hold them over your vag to hide the smell

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 07/01/2016 08:11

I'm pretty sure I haven't got thrush from what I understand the symptoms to be but the clinic gave me a tablet in case as they were stumped.

The first doctor did a swab. Thought it was TV and gave me antibiotics. Days later the results were back and all negative.

Spoke to nurse. Said allergic to husband as not had sex for 4-6 weeks before
Starting again and to use condoms. Started with the burning and smell a day or so after the sex.

Second doctor tested my wee. All ok. Didn't do swab. Diagnosed BV and PID. Gave me two lots of antibiotics.

DH went to GUM clinic. Tested for chlymidia and gonnarhea - both spelt wrong I know. Got tests back and both negative.

Two days after my two week course of antibiotics were finished I went to GUM clinic. Tested for BV and PID. Both negative. Wouldn't test for TV as highly unlikely to have it. Told to come back if fishy again as they can test immediately and OOH doctors are rubbish at testing. Nurse told me to wash with water as shower gel can upset things. Have been using sanex for the last month to try and help. Using just water for last two days.

Grin at making them smell me. Made DH smell me last night after the comment and this morning after my shower. Said can't smell anything.

Taking DC to school now then doctors. Wish me luck and thanks again everyone Flowers.

Good luck - hope you can make progress with the gp.

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 07/01/2016 09:43

Thank you very much.

Just popped home as DC went into school early. While doing a quick food shop I had really dull abdominal pain then a stabbing sharp pain in my side. I'm feeling really sick and a bit out of it and I just know I will cry if I get nowhere with the doctor. I keep thinking I smell fish but when I check my pants it doesn't smell.

OP posts:
ChipInTheSugar · 07/01/2016 10:15

I know that sense of thinking you can smell it everywhere - especially sitting down. Sorry I can't offer any solution, but I can empathise totally.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 07/01/2016 11:11

How are you know? I would have thought you should be referred to gynae for a hysteroscopy to see if anthing is going on inside the uterus. Good luck.

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 07/01/2016 11:42

I'm back. Saw lovely lady doctor.

She thinks I have vaginosis.

Cervix and everything internally looks normal.

I had a huge traumatic event in October and she thinks it is related to that. Has referred me for talking therapy as well as to see a gynaecologist. Said should here in the next six weeks. I cried.

Said okay to have sex but maybe wait until my results for G and C come back even though DH's are negative just because she's 99% sure mine will be too but there is that 1%.

You are all making me feel less alone but right now I just want to cry Blush.

Hi Medical I had the same problem until my sex drive dropped to an all time low after my last baby, six years ago!!

Something I have noticed while I haven't been 'active' Grin is when I eat fish I smell like fish down below for the next couple of days. I can change and bathe frequently but it doesn't make a difference, I haven't used soap down there for years because it makes me very sore so can't be that. I haven't been able to see if this was why it was happening after sex yet (but I did wonder if it was making hubbies sperm do the same? Hmm). It may take another 6 years but I will get back to you on that Wink

MedicalAdviceNeeded · 07/01/2016 12:29

Oh dear. Six years? I think I'd stop bothering.

Just phoned clinic to ask if I can have sex yet and if my results will be negative as DH's are. Said I have to wait a week, can't say mine will be negative and I should be treated as well. Then didn't offer me any.

Aarrghhhh.
