Sadly there seems to continue to be a need for this thread as many of us continue to suffer from back related pain. There are many causes, the pain and misery is shared here and hopefully some comfort derived from knowing we are not alone. We are strictly non competetive and newcomers most welcome.

We can offer advice on medication and effective drug combining plus other methods of pain management. We have used different treatment options from hydrotherapy and physio to surgery. We can share our experiences of navigating the big and baffling medical world, both private and NHS as well as issues around work, being a parent while managing pain and disability, and the impact on the relationships around us. Not to mention the pain of dealing with claiming disablity benefits. Sad. We are not doctors just people who have trodden the painful path of obtaining a diagnosis and dealing with our conditions.

Between us all, we have a huge wealth of knowledge and experience, and more than the practical advice, the jargon and information, we know what back pain is like, how much is affects everything around us, and sometimes, all we need is to have people listen who Get It.

If you have advice, need advice, need a hand to hold, want to do some shopping another skill obtained along the way , then come in. We are friendly. We talk a lot. Come in, have a Brew and say hello Smile

Two types of Anti Ds the old SSRIs and newer NSRIs appear to help with nerve pain. Worth considering.
Plus and I know coming off anti Ds can be a postive thing, but if you are feeling weepy and miserable maybe consider staying on them albeit on a low dose, you could discuss it with your GP? It's not a sign of failure to be on them. Apologies if I'm speaking out of turn ally.

MatildaTheCat · 27/08/2015 21:20

Agree, it's possible the ads were helping the nerve pain. Ally, did you discontinue with the support of your GP? It is so important to involve them. Sometimes it is positively dangerous to go cold turkey.

Merde, that sounds hard enough for a fully fit person.hope you have done lots of delegation. Can only imagine how sore you must be. Do try to slow down. Am only moderatelyextremely jealous of your new pad.would love to hear more about where you are etc. possibly info could be given elsewhere.

Hello!
Here I am. I have not been on the thread for ages (or any thread) then clicked on it yesterday to see how everyone was and lovely Ally had given me a shout out.Smile
Ally sorry that you are having a rubbish time. I have always found AD's terribly difficult to come off. The last time I did it incredibly slowly and still had palpitations when I dropped the final tiny amount I was still taking.Sad Three weeks is quite a long time though so I can see why you would want to see it through now.
Matilda you sound chirpy!Smile I like the sound of the green theme in your house. My favourite colour. My house is more grime than green though. I'll be glad when the DC are both back at school and the house actually stays clean for more then 5 minutes after I've done it! Mind you - there's still the dog!(who is in bad books...)
He jumped up at an old man and tried to bite him last week. Luckily the man was wearing a woolly jumper and it didn't break the skin. It was horrendous. The dog is scared of cars - we were just back from holiday and I was out of the routine and didn't have him on the lead that gives me more control of his head. Also he has never done that before and I wasn't expecting it though he does nip me sometimes when cars go past. DS is utterly devoted to the dog and it would break his heart if we had to get rid of him so he is now muzzled and I have the details for a behavourist from the vet. I'm not confident that we can fundamentally change what he is though...a nutter and now also possibly a dangerous dog. Sad

allypally999 · 28/08/2015 09:10

Berrie!!! Grin So nice to see you. Sorry to hear about your dog - hope the muzzle doesn't make him nuttier but then who am I to talk!

Going cold turkey was a sort of mistake ... I was supposed to go down from 100 to 50 but moved the drugs and forgot them for a few days then it was too late (stupid memory means I frequently mess up - HRT patches can be on for a week lol). I've suffered too much to give up if you get me but if it keeps up I will take them again and just not confess to the GP how I screwed it up. I did some research and it seems the amytriptyline (which I have been taking for ever for migraines) might help more with the nerve pain so might up them a bit (GP says its ok to take more or less of them) and see if that helps rather than rushing straight back onto the sertraline. He is not very helpful but a bit more interested in my depression than anything else (and over interested in my drinking but seeing as I have gone off the taste that is none of his beeswax anymore - and I was never drinking that much so quite offended actually by his sudden keen interest and insistence and alcohol causes depression). I'll stop there before I go full rant Grin

Thanks for the support lovely ladies .. no crying so far today so I will stay off the True Movies and fingers crossed. Not speaking out of turn at all Merde - you are just echoing what I was thinking anyway x

allypally999 · 28/08/2015 09:11

oops I put an x on there .. so sorry! Blush I forgot myself!

Berr1e · 28/08/2015 18:40

Hope you continued to feel slightly better today Ally.
How did you manage to go off the taste of alcohol? All tips welcomed!
Hope you have a better weekend and do something nice with DH.

MatildaTheCat · 29/08/2015 13:35

Lovely to see you Berr1e. Hope all is well in your world. Am preparing for my birthday party tonight. Rain and rain forecast so not the outdoor affair I hoped for. Have been sent to lie on my bed which is very frustrating but sensible.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend and low pain.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. We will probably do a country park and a picnic.

MatildaTheCat · 30/08/2015 18:08

Totally exhausted today but a million things to do, mainly done now. Still a heap of stuff to do like glasses and wine to return, a major trip to the bottle bank and so on. Oh, and going on holiday at 6am on Tuesday.mgreat planning. Grin

Happy birthday Berrie Cake Wine Flowers couldn't decide what to get you haha!

Can't recommend either of the things that may have affected my taste buds Berrie. Could be menopause (pal went off coffee) or could be 2 ops on tongue last year .. not only has a wee bit tongue been lost but I have numb patches which may not be tasting properly. Or I am a crazy person .. pick one! Grin

Berr1e · 31/08/2015 19:16

Just found this thread and can't believe I've never looked at it before. You guys might well become my lifeline. What sort of problems are you all having? Has anybody here got or heard about Cauda Equina Syndrome?

allypally999 · 01/09/2015 08:55

Welcome Mystic - yes these lovely ladies are my lifeline too. I have heard of it but I'm no expert ... I'm sure one will be along shortly!

Berr1e · 01/09/2015 12:49

Hi Mystic sorry can't help either am something of an imposter on this thread nowadays but like Ally says someone will be around sooner or later.
How are you feeling Ally? How is the cold turkey and mood coming on?
Today I have been bursting balloons. I hate balloons but this is something my family choose to ignore every year. There will be trouble when they get home and find them gone but - my birthday - my balloon annihilation! Unfortunately we have a birthday every month until the last one in November now - so out come the jolly banners and balloons again and again. I can't get away with stabbing other people's though so I tend to put them behind the TV and snip a little hole in their necks - one a day. Grin

allypally999 · 01/09/2015 14:00

Lol Berrie .. can't say anyone has ever put up balloons for me .. I don't feel I am missing out Wink

No nausea or headaches for a few days so physical side might be over ... still feeling irritable (psycho level) but am hoping this too will pass .. thanks for asking! Grin

Berr1e · 01/09/2015 14:20

Grin psycho level! Glad it's not just me!
Hey! When does Walking Dead start? There are posters up!
My kids do a very good zombie noise impression. Not that they watch of course but our living room is open plan to the stairs and the noise goes up. They are on strict instructions NOT to come down but to knock politely at the top of the stairs if they need anything. so they knock and politely ask if Mummy and Daddy could please turn off the scary noises since they are trying to get to sleep

allypally999 · 01/09/2015 15:20

Funny you should ask as Hubby thought it was coming back soon ... I thought it was finished but seems to be coming back in October yay! I'd say I'll let you know but odds are I will forget Grin

I have applied to be a zombie extra in a film (not entirely sure its not a joke) so waiting to hear dates ... I would kill (no really) to do this so hope I can manage it and they want me! Then I will tell everyone I have ever met to watch it Grin

Berr1e · 02/09/2015 13:06

Ha ha really?

That's funny. I hope it happens for you. Can't say it's on my bucket list! Smile

mysticlogistic · 03/09/2015 00:20

Thanks guys, I see its mentioned on the pinned post but its really hard to actually find people living with it for support, especially other parents. And when you're having days that are just Sad because you have sciatica going down both legs and you need the loo but can't just nip there without finding a catheter. I know I'm moaning because its a particularly bad day and not usually this depressed about it at all, But why are days like this always the days the kids are absolute monkeys?

Berr1e · 03/09/2015 08:32

Moan as much as you want Mystic. No-one here will mind in the slightest. We have all been there. Most of us have had toilet troubles and lots of us have had to deal with children at the same time.
Sorry you are having a rough time. Flowers
