2yo DD has been a bit off colour for the past 2 or 3 days but I had put it down to hay fever reactions. I was phoned up from nursery today as she had a temperature (38.??? - can't remember exactly) and they wanted to give her calpol. She has also been weepy and wanting to lay on cushions a lot of the day - very unlike her. One minute she has been fine, next complaining of various aches. She often gts her headache, tummyaches, etc mixed up at the moment.

Getting her ready for a bath a while back and she is now covered in a rash. It is on her tummy, back, neck, and tops of legs (seems to be spreading down) - that I have noticed mainly. They are very tiny little spots, only very slightly raised, quite close together, no blisters and blebs, etc. Doesn't seem to be itchy.

Is it just heat rash from the warm apartment and temperature she has had?
Or could it be anything else?

Any advice or help please!!!

We've had "Slapped Cheek" going throughout our nursery recently.

Found this on the Babycentre website.

"It could be slapped cheek disease, also known as "fifth disease," which got its name because it was the fifth red-rash disease of its ilk. The other four are scarlet fever, measles, rubella, and roseola. The virus is most common in school-aged children, but babies can get it, too.

What are the symptoms?
Your baby's cheeks will be red and look as if they've actually been slapped. A red, lacy-like rash may appear on his body and limbs. He may have a slight fever and feel achy and flu-like or have no other symptoms at all. Another non-rash symptom, much more common in adults, is joint pain.

Sometimes the rash can reappear months later in response to exposure to sunlight or heat ? after a hot bath or exercise for instance. Don't worry if it does ? it's not a recurrence of the infection."

DD2 has gone to nursery this morning in a foul mood - then I discovered on arrival that they've had an outbreak of Chicken Pox - 8 cases in DD2 room so far - so I'm hoping she's going to pick it up.

Sorry Hula...just read your message to say you've been to the docs. - obviously not Slapped Cheek then.

Hula - scarlet fever rash is a bit raised, feels like sandpaper when you rub your hand over it. They are usually pretty poorly for the first couple of days, sore throat, headache and the tongue and inside the cheeks look pale with little red spots (strawberry-like). Ds1 has it when he was 6. Later on the skin on the hands and feet sometimes peels.

Hope your dd is feeling better.
