I'm being tested for cancer

I have been told I'm not going through an early menopause but the GP sent me for a blood test to check for ovarian cancer and the letter has already gone to hospital for a scan to check for cervical cancer. I'm very calm. Wondering if I'm being denial, stupid, or best way as I've no idea what is going on yet. I'd like to talk to people about their emotional feelings rather than physical if anyone would like too.

Used to go yearly

Thyme out- mine was transvaginal.
My point was that if I relied on it for diagnosis I would have thought my cervix was perfectly healthy.
Ultrasound's good for ovaries, bladders etc Small cervical growths can be hard to see-that's what the gyne and the surgeon have said.

Justusemyname · 20/05/2015 14:28

Blood tests normal. No action required.

Thank you everyone for supporting me when I was being a prat.

Just the scan to have now.

Thymeout · 20/05/2015 15:01

Winnie - yes, that's why I thought the scan was likely to be for ovarian purposes. Sorry, I can't remember. Was it discovered through unusual cells in your smear?

Just - that's good! My dd had a scan - no pain, no bleeding - just because she read an article in the Daily Mail and immediately developed a whole lot of symptoms.

She was fine, but her doc put her on Vit D, because that was low, and offered her anti-d's for stress and health anxiety.

Not such a prat as me, walking around with a 4lb plus tumour, thinking it was normal to get a bit of a tummy when you gave up pulling in your tummy muscles.

winnybella · 20/05/2015 15:27

Great news about blood results!
Ultrasound is also good for having a look at the uterus, isn't it? I know you haven't talked of your symptoms, but any unusual bleeding/ pain can also be caused by fibroids which would be picked by the scan. I mean, with your smear up to date and choice of ultrasound it doesn't really sound like it's the cervix the doc was concerned about, but then I'm not medically trained so I'll just shut up.

Thyme- yes, smear.

Justusemyname · 20/05/2015 16:45

I had symptoms for ovarian and cervical cancer hence the two test/referral.

I have had bleeding at the wrong time and polyps twice. I have recently had bleeding out of time but I told the GP I wouldn't willingly have a GA again as I had a really bad reaction to it. The scan was referred as unexplained abdominal pain

Sorry, my Internet has been down all afternoon, but that is great news about the blood results. Do you have any idea when the scan will be?

Triliteral · 21/05/2015 05:38

Sorry, I just checked back and see you don't have a date yet. I was in too much of a hurry to post.

I'm flying to Scotland tomorrow. I'm finally managing to feel excited about it.

Justusemyname · 21/05/2015 07:23

Thanks Tril. Have a lovely time.

Hello Just just found your thread.

So pleased your blood tests came up normal. You're definitely not a prat! It's perfectly normal to worry and need support. Great you had such good support on here, sorry I didn't see your thread before now. x

Good news too Weebirdie

Justusemyname · 21/05/2015 21:53

Thanks Iwas.

I'm still waiting for a scan but at least worse case is only one lot of cancer and not two

OP posts:
iwashappy · 22/05/2015 00:10

Oh Just Sad at your weak smile. I did see that you're waiting for a letter for a scan date. Try not to worry too much

Justusemyname · 22/05/2015 07:51

Thank you.

I'm really struggling with life today. The scan isn't even on my thought list atm. I feel I'm dealing, failing to deal, with it alone as no friends to help. I only have a few and only three know about the main stuff. One is self absorbed and makes a lot of noise about being there for me but isn't, one hasn't replied to my last messages so I won't bother and one is very busy. Can't post on here as it isn't safe. Just want to disappear to be honest but also sick of myself not being able to get over stuff.

Sorry to hear you are struggling today. It can take ages to get past things psychologically. For various reasons, the last year has been a tough one for me as well and though things have improved, it has taken my mind a while to readjust. I think it's the same as with physical illness. Even though the original problem may be over, it still takes a while to get back to full fitness.

Is there something nice you could do today to treat yourself? If others aren't helping, you can do all you can to help yourself.

I will be thinking of you. Hope you feel better soon.

Justusemyname · 22/05/2015 12:08

I just want today over. I have to do something I really don't want to do, my dd the same, and I then the kids are off all next week and one the following week too and I'm dreading it tbh. The oldest is hard work at the moment, the Middle one is a pita and the younger one was frustrating before school. Urghhhhhhhhhhh

OP posts:
Triliteral · 23/05/2015 11:43

Yesterday is past now. Did it turn out okay?

I have three children too. Tough, isn't it. The eldest has had a really difficult time over the past year, but seems to be coming through it now thank goodness. There have been times when I wanted to bang my head on a wall, but we all seem to have survived.

Is it half term then, where you are? We're only a few weeks from the summer holidays.

Justusemyname · 23/05/2015 16:05

Hi Tril, thanks for asking. It wasn't too bad actually though I'm still waiting on answers that I am worried about.

Mine are on holidays now. I've bought most of asda so we'll be fine until Wednesday HmmGrin as my 14 year old is a good eater. No time off for DH but PIL will help out thankfully.

Summer holiday s - .

Sorry you've been struggling. I hope today has been a bit easier for you. Don't be too critical of yourself for not getting over stuff. You have a lot to deal with and quite often something else gives then so that could be partly why you are struggling with some things.

I hope half term isn't too bad for you. Children are bloody hard work but it does get easier. My son is a lot of support for me now.

Look after yourself x

Justusemyname · 25/05/2015 11:01

Thank you. Currently in agony after two falls. Haven't been doing physio ordered exercises as they hurt and don't help and it is getting me down at the moment. I've also had horrendous stabbing pains when I was standing up from being crouched down so I'm cross.

Have been cooking all morning so buffet picnic lunch is ready and it's not time. That's the trouble with early mornings, it feels later than it is. I need sleep.

Thank you.

I've sat with a hot water bottle, put on deep heat and had a glass of Buck's Fizz which is great for taking the edge off bad stuff.

Picnic was nice, dozed for a few minutes and then dh came back from the shop with a massive bar of chocolate Grin. I'm so tired though and fed up with the lack of energy. I need to get fit so I'm wondering if a few goes on the wii my kill a few birds with one stone as opposed to naughty girl cat who caught a real bird but thankfully it managed to escape alive.

How's things with you, IWHAIWBA? Great name change btw!

OP posts:
Triliteral · 27/05/2015 07:00

Hope you are feeling better Just.

Justusemyname · 27/05/2015 13:44

Still in pain. Hot water bottle and deep heat not touching it. Walked for an hour this morning with DS2 in the hope of getting some weight off. Drinking loads which means hobbling up the stairs loads. More calories used than nipping in the downstairs loo Wink.

I'm wondering when I'll get my scan appointment.

How are you, Triliteral.

Triliteral · 29/05/2015 08:07

Had my tonsils out on Wednesday. The surgeon said that there was no sign of anything serious, so although technically I have to wait a few days for the official result, I think everything is okay. I was very grateful to him for letting me know.

Shockingly horrible taste in my mouth though. Absolutely disgusting! A buffet picnic and bucks fizz sounds lovely.
