Loose stomach every morning. What can I do?

Not sure what's going on really. Been a few weeks now. Usually only happens around the onset of a period. I eat a balanced diet although very little meat these days. I have seeded bread rather than white. Life not too stressful! No more than usual anyway. I don't want to take medication and in any case I'm breastfeeding so can't take Imodium. Seems to be an ongoing problem now so what can it be? If I can't sort it I'll have to see the doctor I suppose Sad

Dehydration maybe?

springbabydays · 11/04/2015 08:48

I thought that caused constipation? But happy to be corrected. I don't drink enough water it's true.

Please go and see your gp as soon as you can. It can be caused by any number of things, most probably nothing serious but not worth taking a risk if it is. How are you feeling otherwise?

springbabydays · 11/04/2015 12:41

Thank you. I feel otherwise fine. It was only this morning I thought to mention it as I had horrible cramping pains too which woke me up. I will see a doctor next week.

After another hideous night of stomach pain and an hour and a half spent mostly on the loo I am off to the doctor this morning. What should I expect? Anyone else here been through this?

That sounds rubbish. A "morning rush" can be a sign of IBS, especially if things then settle down for the rest of the day, but you're doing exactly the right thing going to the doctors. Good luck.

Redhead11 · 15/04/2015 07:42

Yeah, i was thinking IBS, too, but better to see your GP to be on the safe side. I developed IBS when pregnant with DD2 and it continued for many years, sometimes worse, sometimes better. good luck.

HappyUncleMump · 15/04/2015 08:17

I agree with previous posters re the possibility of IBS. I experience this frequently, and for some reason it seems to be worse the earlier I wake up! Definitely get yourself to the doctor to get checked out though. And try not to worry too much. Smile

springbabydays · 15/04/2015 08:39

Thanks all. Your kindness has brought tears to my eyes! I guess I am worrying. I was diagnosed with IBS about 20 years ago as a teen although it passed quickly and I can hardly remember what it was like really.

How did you get on springbaby? I hope the doctor was some help and you're feeling better.

springbabydays · 15/04/2015 20:36

Thank you Scooter. The doctor examined my stomach and it felt ok apparently. She mentioned IBS but has requested a sample to rule out a stomach infection. She said maybe I had too much fibre in my diet. I always thought fibre was important for a healthy stomach, seems what I thought I knew about digestion is wrong! Still feel sore today, hoping I will sleep longer tonight.

I'd cut out the seeded bread- seeds can be very laxative for some people. Try ordinary white bread for a few days or, even better, Genius gluten free- many people with IBS can't tolerate gluten.

springbabydays · 15/04/2015 21:54

That's really interesting Pink. I just read the bread wrapper and it has linseed in it. Linseed oil is a laxative isn't it? So this is likely causing my problem I think! Feel a bit silly actually. Bread wrapper should have a warning on it although who reads bread wrappers anyway

Read up on the low FODMAP diet, there are lots of blogs about it, and how it helps IBS sufferers.

springbabydays · 16/04/2015 19:25

Thank you 321.

Does anyone have any tips for relieving the stomach pain I am experiencing?

OP posts:
pinkfrocks · 16/04/2015 19:28

you can buy tablets OTC- think they are called something like Buscopon/ ibuscopon? someone will know! They are for IBS.

springbabydays · 16/04/2015 20:10

Thanks. I will check it out tomorrow. This is horrible Sad

Ask the doctor to test you for coeliac, this sounds like me before I started a gluten free diet, I was late for work every morning, because I couldn't leave the loo ??. Hopefully it is just your linseed causing your troubles.

springbabydays · 16/04/2015 22:25

Thanks Posh. How long did you have your symptoms for? Coeliac was not mentioned. Can I just request the test then? Also does anyone know how long before I should get a result on the stool sample? I forgot to ask the doctor. Still feel awful. Like I'm carrying a heavy weight in my stomach.

springbabydays · 17/04/2015 16:20

Has anyone taken buscopan while breastfeeding? I know I can ask the pharmacist but it will save me a trip if I know I can't take it because of that.

OP posts:
springbabydays · 17/04/2015 17:34

Just spoke to the pharmacist and no you can't take buscopan while bf Sad might have to wean the little one at this rate.

Near your period? I get loose stomach with my period and I have endometriosis. Ring any bells?

springbabydays · 17/04/2015 21:47

Usually get this near my period yes but this is completely different, much more painful and has been for much longer. Actually got my period today. Are you suggesting I may have endometriosis?

I was going to mention coeliac too. It is an intolerance to gluten.

I am non coeliac gluten intolerant and have his problem due to gut damage.

I started in my mid 20s and I have suffered various symptoms for 25 years.
