I've spelt that worng i'm sure, but anyway.
I keep feeling very anxious. It usually happens when i'm getting stressed about something and i sit there wringing my hands and biting my nails. I have also become a bit nervous of going out without anyone. I'm o.k if i have my kids with me but if not, i feel very anxious and nervous.

If i've had a bad day with the housing probs and have been talking about it alot or ringing up trying to have a go at people i really feel unsettled then at night and i'm having trouble sleeping.
I keep meaning to go to the doctors about it but never get around to it.

Any opinions gratefully recieved.

You sound a lot like me nutcracker, and Im suffering from anxiety. I went to doctors, and they gave me very mild anti depressants. But when the problems I had that were making me suffer resolved themselves, I came off them, but was told I will still have bad days and get upset over stupid little things. You may have noticed my thread before, cos Im trying to deal with this without being on anti-depressants.

definately sounds like it to me, I too suffer with this, I get quite wound up every morning taking the kids to school, out of breathe and my stomach churns (needing several trips to the loo) I am going to the doctors about it tommorrow to see if there's anything I can do - I have heard that calms are good. The bit what you say about going out on your own, I can relate to too. When I have my kids with me, I feel I have a purpose, I am in control because I have to look after someone, when I'm on my own I feel vunerable because I have no purpose, my confidence now needs building - I have just drawn up this conclusion, this is what is wrong with me anyway. HTH

Hi Nutcracker I get mine from Holland and Barrett but I think Boots do them as well

KPB · 25/04/2004 09:22

You can get these herbal tablets called "Quiet Life" and they are really good for anxiety. A few of the mums from school went for a coffee and we were all saying how we get anxious, stressed etc. Someone suggested "Quiet life" and I have found them very helpful. they are about £3.50, I got mine from Superdrug. Even my PMS symptoms are much better, so that's a bonus!!! HTH

KPB - do you take them every day or just as needed?

KPB · 25/04/2004 12:57

Kizzie - Funnily enough I was taking them everyday for about a month and within about 1 week felt so much better. I let it slip over the half-term and def. feel anxious again. I took 2 straight away after posting the message earlier!!! They really do work, make you feel less uptight, I think it's the vitamin B or soemthing that makes that happen. They also help with sleep Nutcracker, so it may be worth giving them a go. Sometimes I take 3 if I am feeling over anxious at bedtime and I do have a lovely sleep without feeling rough in the morning.
You take 2 in the morning, 2 midday and 2/3 at bedtime. They are only £3.50 for 100 so it's worth just trying them.

Nutcracker · 25/04/2004 14:35

I have heard of the Kalms tablets and i think my mom used to take the Quiet Life ones.
I will have to get some to try. Think i may pop to the docs too though as i'd rather them know about it incase it gets any worse.
Thanks for all the advice guys

Definitely go to the doctors, it's always best to check these things out. Unfortunately I have suffered from anxiety since my teens so know the symptoms only too well!!! Good luck

spacemonkey · 25/04/2004 14:49

I have read that book loads of times nutty, it's got lots of really good practical advice for dealing with anxiety and panic. They've got it second hand on amazon for about four quid - good investment!

KPB - thanks for the info. I had anxiety based pnd which was unfortunately made worse by getting addicted to anti depressants (long story.)
Now finally close to coming off but the anxiety is back big time and before I take any other medication I want to give some natural things a try.

expatkat · 26/04/2004 00:04

I find that the benzodiazapene family of drugs (valium, xanax, lorazepam etc) are useful for me for those occasions or periods when anxiety starts getting out of control & building into panic. I take them only rarely, though; they can be habit-forming.

I wonder what the attitude is towards them in the NHS, though, and how easy it would be to get a prescription for them. They are expensive. . .so I wonder if the NHS avoids prescribing them despite their proven effectiveness. But if you can get a prescription, that'd be my advice.

KPB · 26/04/2004 18:35

Kizzie I also had anxiety based pnd after ds so I can totally understand how you are feeling/felt. My ds is 6 1/2 but it took a long time for me to get back to normal (not sure if I ever have really). Give those tablets a try as I found they really relieved that "uptight, anxious" feeling. Good luck KPB

kizzie · 26/04/2004 22:20

Thanks for the message KPB. Did you take medication or just work through it?
(Sorry nutcracker for jumping into your thread- have you had any luck with the supplements yet?)
Kizziex

Nutcracker · 26/04/2004 22:24

No probs Kizzie, jump away Haven't got any suplements yet, will go and look tommorow probably.
Have been to busy swallowing pain killers today, bloody period pains

kizzie · 27/04/2004 10:16

I wonder if your anxiety has been worse recently because of PMT??

Nutcracker · 27/04/2004 10:19

Never thought of that Kizzie. I usually take the pill but i decided to come off it for a while to see if my depression got any better. I think it did a little, but i will have to go back on the pill as my periods are too painful whilst i'm off it.
