My health has deteriorated over the past few weeks, what could be going on!

For the past couple of weeks my health has been slowly getting worse. I am fairly healthy usually but recently I've been having headaches, poor memory, poor concentration, dizziness, confusion, blurred vision, heart palpitations and poor balance. It's been very strange!

I went into a supermarket a few days ago and I was squinting the entire way around because my eyes were sensitive to the lights then at one point the room started spinning a little and I grabbed hold of the trolley because I thought DS was rolling away!

I also was walking up the stairs to bed and I was struggling to catch my breath and I went very warm and dizzy.

I've been to the doctors who's going to be giving me a blood test for things such as a vitamin D deficiency and diabetes but I can't remember what else! Confused

I've had an eye test today to see if that's what was causing it and my vision is perfect. The plot thickens!

I'm curious to see if any of this sounds familiar to anyone? I'm a little worried and wondering if anyone has any idea what these symptoms may suggest.

A couple of weeks ago my urine smelt very sweet like apple sauce also which I thought may suggest diabetes?

Just bumping because I'm a little bit concerned about why my vision is being affected if my eyes are fine?
I realise MNers aren't doctors but if anyone has experienced the same it'd be interesting to hear what happened!

Have you had your blood sugar checked?

Do you spend most of your day at home? Do you feel a bit better when you're out of home for a period of time? Your symptoms sound a bit like carbon monoxide poisoning.

ClaraM · 18/02/2015 19:14

The problems with dizziness and loss of balance make me think of ear problems eg labyrinthitis? Have you had any hearing loss?

Or could it be something migraine like?

ProfessorPickles · 18/02/2015 19:17

Thank you for the responses! I realise you can't diagnose me but the suggestions are much appreciated.

I don't think it will be carbon monoxide poisoning thank fully because I have an alarm for it and because we spent the weekend away and I was equally as bad when we were away.

I don't appear to have any problems with my ears but the doctor didn't check them. Maybe I could suggest they have a look?
I've also been told I would know when I have a migraine, as in it would be very painful. Can they sometimes not hurt but have bad effects?
I have had head ache on and off at times

No hearing loss I should add!

Not medical at all, so my suggestions are fairly random, it's just I knew someone who had labyrinthitis and it sounded quite similar in a way. I think all these things can be mild to severe - so maybe you could have a mild migraine? But I'm not sure about that! :)

Cleanbean · 18/02/2015 19:36

My friend has many of your symptoms. She was referred to a neurologist and has been diagnosed as having three different types of migraine. I can't remember what they were called though!

YerTiz · 18/02/2015 19:39

How's your blood pressure? Stress levels?

(Not a doctor!!)

ProfessorPickles · 18/02/2015 20:10

Blood pressure was fine when the doctor checked and stress levels are up and down.
I'm mostly stressed because of how I'm feeling now because I have no energy! Grin

How old are you OP? Quite a few of your symptoms might be connected to hormonal changes - are you menopausal?

ProfessorPickles · 18/02/2015 20:23

Nope I'm only 23!
There's no chance of being pregnant either.
I feel like I'm getting worse it's driving me mad, my blood test isn't til Friday then it'll probably be the end of next week until the results.

Hi

Sorry you are feeling rubbish. I had all of the symptoms you have mentioned. It turns out for me I have low b12, low folate and low ferritin (iron stores). You need to ask for these to be tested as gp don't routinely test for these. X

ProfessorPickles · 18/02/2015 21:03

Le1890 - thank you for your post! I will ask for those to be tested specifically. I worry about things GPs do not check so that's brill that I can request those ones

I had glandular fever with similar symptoms to you

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2015 21:19

What is your heart rate like when you stand up?

jonicomelately · 18/02/2015 21:21

I've had exactly the same thing recently! It's horrible. I think it's a weird virus.

LlamaLove · 18/02/2015 21:25

I had pretty much all your symptoms for most of last year. It turns out I had extremely love ferritin levels.

My levels are now almost normal (thank you ferrous sulphate tablets and B12) and most the symptoms have gone but I do still occassionally the odd lightheaded disorientated wobble.

I also had my thyroid checked when I presented to my GP with these problems. Maybe ask your Dr about that as well as iron, ferritin and B12 levels.

ProfessorPickles · 18/02/2015 21:26

I'm currently laid down and my heart is beating fairly fast to say I'm resting.
At times it is is fine then other times I just climb the stairs and I can hardly breathe and my heart is beating really fast.
I've felt an increase in heart palpitations also

FairyPenguin · 18/02/2015 21:26

I don't think this explains all your symptoms so probably not it but I have suffered from different types of migraine and they are not always painful.

My symptoms can be any combination of sensitive to bright lights, sensitive to noise, seeing spots or blurry vision, nausea, diarrhoea, pain behind my eyes, headache, dizziness.

It was scary when they first started as my symptoms were vision-related. My optician diagnosed optical migraines, then GP confirmed.

Bakeoffcake · 18/02/2015 21:35

I had all these symptoms and I had very low iron stores. I was given high dose iron tablets and I began to feel better within weeks.

I do hope you find out quickly what it is.

Do you have heavy periods?

Manic3mum · 18/02/2015 21:41

Sounds like it could be an over-active thyroid to me - I had all these symptoms, fast resting heart rate is a dead giveaway. Simple blood test will tell you either way.

mollymophead1978 · 18/02/2015 22:33

Hi. Sorry to hear u r unwell. Reading your post was like listening to me at the dr s. I lost peripheral vision 12th Jan in my right eye. It's still not returned but in addition I've got problems with balance, memory, headaches, dizziness, My brain feels foggy. Consultant has ruled out migraines and I'm being sent for an MRI to check neurological problems. I'm worried sick which is making me anxious all the time. No fun at all. I'm a 36 year old nurse with 2 children 7 and 4, a very supportive hubby but I've no time to be ill xxx

LlamaLove · 19/02/2015 00:49

I used to get heart palpitations when lieing down in bed at night all relaxed and chilled out.

Used to scare me.

Very low iron, thyroid issues can all cause this.

The only additional symptom I had as well was my hair falling out.

Santanna15 · 19/02/2015 21:38

I had all your symptoms and more. I had been bitten by a tick and had Lyme Disease. Are you an outdoorsy sort?
