As per title really. Anyone brought one and been disappointed?

P.S. Save the other thread for the positive stories please. I want the negatives here. Thanks.

Dunno if you are still looking at this thread.. I bought one this week, so sick of the bin overflowing with nappies, & 'sanpro'. I love the concept of it but have found it very uncomfortable. Probably my saggy pelvic floor no doubt but I find it works it's way down till I can feel it, and it's poking out. And i even trimmed the stem off entirely. Doesn't sound good huh! I'm wondering if my foof (glad someone else uses that too!) is also too small as it just doesn't seem to fit in the available space! I don't think constant bending and squatting after a toddler helps. I'm very disappointed. I might give it another go but it made me feel so grumpy! And that's the last thing I need, something else bothering me. Esp in the foof dept !!

nearlyfourbob · 23/01/2007 07:31

Sounds like you haven't created a vacuum - have you tried inserting it wet?

mateychops · 23/01/2007 08:19

A vacumn?! Do you keep the attachments on? What about a Dyson? Does it do the job?

sunnywong · 23/01/2007 08:20

I want to love mine but it grazes my fanjo something terrible and I leak out of it badly. Maybe I have one like a bucket

mateychops · 23/01/2007 08:23

Welsh Boris, you're just boasting now

pen73 · 23/01/2007 18:02

Wouldn't try inserting it dry, definately had a vaccuum as it required squeezing etc to remove, it just seems to move within me a lot. I even tried putting it in and tensing the muscles to try to draw it up. Can't be bothered to do that every 5 mins. I've emailed Mooncup, be interested to see if they get back to me.

SlightlyMadScientist · 23/01/2007 18:09

I think there is a patented "MN twist" that sounds as though it may solve your problem. (Not that I woulkd know as I havn't been brave enough yet).

NannyL · 23/01/2007 18:33

i have to say my 1st 2 months wernt as great as the last 6.... i never had problems getting it in and out (ok the 1st time i EVER tried to get it out i thought it was stuck forever, but then i got he knack)

now i LOVE it...

the 1st few times it leaked a bit.... it doesnt leak any more and i honestly couldnt tell you why or what i do thats diffenrent, but what ever knack there is, i seem to have aquired it!

Katymac · 23/01/2007 18:35

I can't wear mine if I have a cough........

goingfor3 · 23/01/2007 18:37

I got my stuck when I first tried it! I know when it's in properly as it pops into place.

jampot · 23/01/2007 18:40

I too have a mouses ear and cannot get it in although that was a whole different thread. Once it did go in and then couldnt get it out again

mamama · 23/01/2007 19:06

There are other brands available - I don't know if they might be better.

You could try the divacup or the Keeper.

I think they have websites.

My mooncup took a while to get used too.

pen73 · 23/01/2007 21:08

TBH I was a bit surprised at how big it is. I think I look at it and it boggles my mind how it could all go in and have me not feel it, although I understand that should be the case. I will try again next month but it seemed like yet more hassle. Funny though as pads and tampons are also horrid, horrid, you just get so used to it and I guess there is a bit of that with the Mooncup.

expatinscotland · 23/01/2007 21:09

It took me about 4 cycles to really get the knack for it.

Now I love it.

pen73 · 23/01/2007 21:14

Does it count as a mouses ear if you can touch your cervix when you've not quite got up to the 2nd joint of your index finger is in? I think my bits have a strange geography. A gynae once told me my uterus was retroflex but that this can change after birth (no wonder you feel like you've flipped inside out!). I probably might need a different brand of sink plunger but now that I feel I've wasted a precious £20 I don't think I'll be investing any more on the quest. I'll at least use it at night, can't feel it then due to being asleep.

pen73 · 23/01/2007 21:16

Thanks for the tips friends, apologies to DrivingInstMissus whose thread I've rather hijacked.

shimmy21 · 23/01/2007 21:25

I nearly gave up with mine too because mine wasn't popping open inside me and then leaking terribly. Suzywong mentioned a squelch to me and I have got the knack now - it takes a push up and then a little pull down to get the suction to work. Then removing takes 2 fingers on the actual cup and not the stem.

these days I pass the sanpro aisle in sainsburys with scorn!

Caligula · 23/01/2007 21:28

I often wonder why one can't just use a diaphragm instead of a mooncup.

Agree it takes a while to get used to them. Took me four or five months, I think.

expatinscotland · 23/01/2007 21:35

the shape of the diaphragm wouldn't work to hold in menstrual blood.

expatinscotland · 23/01/2007 21:36

taht would leak!

motherinferior · 23/01/2007 21:36

No it doesn't - I've done it in the past. It works quite well for quite a while.
