As per title really. Anyone brought one and been disappointed?

P.S. Save the other thread for the positive stories please. I want the negatives here. Thanks.

Really, MI?

Even on . . . erm . . heavy days?

Glassofwine · 23/01/2007 21:41

how strange, I gave up on my mooncup, but am just boiling it now to give it another go. I had tried for first three months and just got fed up of not being able to rely on it. Sometimes it leeks, in fact mostly, but it still collects iyswim. Have tried twisting etc.

Anyway gave up about 6 months ago, so am ready to try again I do want it to work.

duchesse · 23/01/2007 21:42

I'm on month 2 of using mine, and am still slightly underwhelmed- it fills up and leaks throughout day 2 (have to empty it every 2 hours or else), I have to get up every four hours to empty it on day 2-3, and it works it way down continually, which is why I never wear tampons. I still have to use towels as well. The only good thing is that I use fewer of them than before. About five pads, rather than a pack and a half per period.

motherinferior · 23/01/2007 21:43

I didn't use it all the time, Expat, but I did use it sometimes. It wasn't brilliant, I have to say - did leak eventually.

But then I don't have a problem with my mooncup at all. I find pushing it slightly further up helps me not to feel it.

duchesse · 23/01/2007 21:43

And I had to cut the stem off entirely as it was chaffing horribly. It still chaffs when it works its way down and nearly out.

expatinscotland · 23/01/2007 21:45

I cut the stem off entirely, too. It rubbed horribly.

And I also push it up pretty high.

duchesse · 23/01/2007 21:47

I also push it up as high as poss. Doesn't stop it trying to eject itself though...

I'm not suffering from stress incontinence or anything, so am dubious about whether it's pelvic floor issues causing it.

12weeksandcounting · 23/01/2007 21:48

I had a terrible experience camping with mine! disastrous leaking which really wasn't needed in the middle of a field, 400 other campers and a good 7 minute walk to the toilet block...

Realised was trying too hard - didn't need to put in it so high...better sat down lower to catch more!

I think I'm in the same camp as you Duchesse with the moving south....it strikes me that it is only 1 design, I imagine we are all using the same size A due to all being mums - and yet imagine the variety of shapes and sizes we all are. OK, don't imagine too hard!! I will perservere but it's not a great thing to have to perservere with is it? My foof ended up so sore with all that rummaging, even with the plentiful lubrication that was going on. I think perhaps it just doesn't suit everyone. So what are we going to do!! I got to thinking last night that I have been menstruating for 20 years now! Crikey!! We agonise over nappies, but the sanpro mountain and cost of that must make the nappies of my 18 month old DD pale into insignificance. I am therefore really determined to keep trying!! And no, please don't suggest washable pads to me. I just couldn't cope with that much stain removal.

BTW, very excited to have woken up to snow, even here in London. It does mean that we won't be going to music group this morning. We all have colds and don't need to spend time in the outdoor deep freeze waiting for the bus.

Very glad to have found this thread. I first read about mooncups in Spare Rib over 25 years ago but never did anything about it - what have I spent on tampons and towels since then!! Started using a mooncup last autumn after an article in the Guardian (though had to get the local Boots to order in especially). I think I'm pleased with it ... I've cut down the stem and accept I need a liner for my two heavy days but I do find it tends to droop downwards and chafe a bit. Presumably I'm not doing any damage by inserting what feels like a pretty big bit of plastic ...

I'm persevering, perhaps I still haven't quite got the knack of popping it in right every time. And I'm not quite confident enough to wear it when I run - especially for more than 10k. It's surprising how much we bleed isn't it! I always thought it was only a couple of tablespoons but I need to empty mine every few hours during the first few days.
