I had a failed endoscopy in jan this year...the sedation didn't work...no idea why..it's worked before...I think I they gave me a different drug (something beginning with m and I didn't have a canula in either?)
I know I need the proceedure...my gerd and pain is still bad.
I had an appt at a bupa hosptial last night (Dh is covered with work so I am covered for some tests) but can't have the proceedure til next Friday!
Have told the dr I am very worried about the sedation not working again.
He said he will give me a mixture of drugs to sedate me.
But...it's a long time til next week and I am really really worried.
Come on...tell me I am being an idiot!

How long have you been having problems and have the drs offered any insight into what's wrong.

I was told I had pancreatic cancer two and a half years ago...The drs made a mistake. I'm still having tests and the drs haven't got a clue.
Am in pain, have constant diarrhoea and occasional vomiting as well as a whole loads of other stuff going on.

You would think it would be easy to figure out. One good thing is that after several endoscopies and colonoscopies my mind is now at ease over the cancer thing. Everything is nice and clear...it's the bit in the middle they can't get to.

And...Yes...I would go through all he tests again if I had to.

Just think Bad this time next week you'll be wondering what all the fuss was about. Xmas Wink

Started when pg with my youngest who is now 6
Had my gallbladder out last nov and haven't been right since really.
Had poss gastritis - caused by what? - in jan when I had the failed endo.
Had a barium swallow which was normal.
I have gerd - really bad at times, nausea and now epigastric pain.
My mum is coeliac so if all goes well he is doing a biopsy for that.
I wish I could ff to next Saturday!

Oh, and I've also had chest x rays and an mrcp scan to check for stones in the bile duct and all were clear.

I must admit I do wonder about my pancreas....but they said it wasn't pancreatitis in jan...they can tell via blood tests apparently.

OP posts:
FrigginFuckinFiggyPudding · 06/12/2014 07:57

Sounds like you've been having a really hard time with it....
I had a coeliac biopsy and it came back negative...apparently you have to eat tons of gluten before the tests.

Next Saturday will be here soon...I wish I could ff for you.

We're all here to get you through this...will google gut jokes. Xmas Grin

Badvocinapeartree · 06/12/2014 07:58

Figgy...have you been tested for coeliac?
I think back in jan they thought it was a stomach ulcer...but it was never confirmed so no treatment.

Just wanted to try and reassure you a bit.

I had an endoscopy about a month ago after years of problems with heartburn, bloating etc. I did it without sedation as it wasn't really offered as an option and it was ok. It obviously wasn the most fun way to spend 10 mins but there was a nurse whose job was just to sit and keep me calm and I kept my eyes shut. I could feel a little bit of movement when they took the biopsies but no pain at all. The worse bit of the procedure was the local anaesthetic up my nose which got into my left sinus and left me with facial pain for 2 hours afterwards.

I would have it done without sedation again.

All my results came back normal which is reassuring but my GP has decided that it's most likely functional dyspapgia (?) and IBS as I'm having massive flare ups that last 7-10 days. It's great for weight loss as I can hardly eat due to being so bloated but it's really not nice.

Hi Bad just wondering how you're doing and to let you know I'm thinking about you...Flowers Xmas Smile

Badvocinapeartree · 11/12/2014 22:17

Thank you! Smile
Not looking forward to tomorrow evening but it's been a busy day so I've been too busy to worry about it.
Really quite worried about it Hmm

It'll be over in no time at all...Seriously 5 mins and that's it. I'm sure you'll be more than relieved when it is over and happy that you went through with it.

What do you have planned for the weekend. Making up for not eating no doubt. After my last double whammy I went for fish and chips...was fast food.

I'll be thinking of you.

Flowers
Badvocinapeartree · 12/12/2014 07:22

It's not til 6pm sadly....so no food for me from 10am...am considering a big cooked breakfast!
Thanks for thinking of me.
I will - hopefully - report back later!

sending virtual hugs and a hand to hold ,this time tomorrow it will be behind you .

well done for keeping going !

Bunbaker · 12/12/2014 08:53

Good luck for this evening. The idea of an endoscopy is horrible, but they really don't take long at all. Why is it so late? Are you going private?

IAlreadyToldSanta · 12/12/2014 10:11

Hi Badvoc, I hope you don't mind me virtually holding your hand and maybe in return you could hold mine on Tuesday when I have mine? I also have to have a colonoscopy.

I haven't had either before but I can sympathise with the sedation not working and how you're feeling now - when I had my first c section the anaesthetic didn't work properly. When i had to go in for my second c sectionI was absolutely terrified it would happen again (and that's not something you can exactly put off!). But I spoke to the consultant and anaethisist(sp) beforehand about my worries and fears and they were able to reassure me. They used a different type of anaesthetic and everything was fine... I think if they know you are scared and worried and why they will do their best to alleviate your fears.

Good luck for this evening - this time tomorrow it will be but a distant memory SmileFlowers.

Badvocinapeartree · 12/12/2014 10:48

Thank you all.
Yes it's at a bupa hospital....I am covered for tests under Dhs company policy.
Tbh the last time I had in eat an NHS hospital it was 4.45....maybe I am just unlucky with the timings!?
I had a sigmoidoscopy some years ago with no sedation and - Honestly - it was ok. Bit uncomfortable but ok. The wind afterwards is quite funny!

Good luck badvoc, you can do it!

gingeroots · 12/12/2014 18:21

Thinking of you OP and sending sedating vibes .

frozen70 · 12/12/2014 20:15

hope it went ok. I had a colonoscopy with sedation. It was fine but it was uncomfortable. They had to increase dose half way through. Hope they got it right for you.

Bunbaker · 12/12/2014 21:31

How did it go?

Badvocinapeartree · 12/12/2014 21:50

Hi...only just back home!
So.
I had a bit of a panic in the theatre but the dr was lovely.
They had to give me a shed load of sedatives though :)
I had 13mg of diazamul and 25mg of pethidone!
Dont feel particularly doped up tbh.
Anyway...it's done!
Follow up appt on 3 weeks so assuming he didn't find anything...which is good...but why am is still getting gerd and pain?
and he didn't do a biopsy either.
Anyway...thanks so much for all the hand holding.
It was so much appreciated x

OP posts:
Badvocinapeartree · 12/12/2014 21:51

Pethidine even!

OP posts:
Bunbaker · 12/12/2014 23:11

Are you absolutely sure they didn't do a biopsy? OH has to have regular endoscopies and they always take a biopsy. You might not feel like you have had a sedative, but you might not be aware that they took a biopsy.
