Hello!
This is driving me mad now i have, Bad spots around chin and mouth, a few on back and chest, driving me mad, I'm on treatment from the doctor which is called "benzamycin" gel, Doctor said give it 4 weeks but it's been 7 weeks and I've seen very little difference, I'm going back to the Doctor next week, but worried that it's going to be like this trying a treatment for a few week and nothing then on something else, and so on and so on.

I'm being tested for PCOS which bad skin is one of the symptom of having the condition, hair has been growing all over my face very very fine hair mind you! I was taking "dianette" which is for acne and act's like the pill which was fab and got rid of them in weeks, but trying for a baby for 16 months and spot have came back (may06), which I'm trying to fright not getting upset about, and dianette is not an option now!

I get up wash my face with "L'Oreal" "pure zone" deep purifying gel wash then wet face with lots of cold water as I cant use toner stings my face, I did use "L'Oreal" toner but had to stop! Then put on vit-e moisturising lotion/cream, then apply make up. I take off make-up with "boots" FF cleansing lotion with wet cotton wool, then wash face and apply doctors treatment for a few hours then wash off treatment, wet face with cold water and then apply "boots" "ACT" non-oily moisturiser, before bed! Were am I going wrong!?

Please any Advice?

have the same problem, have tried everything tou have the only thing that wors for me is oxytetracycline sp?, but cant be taken if trying to get pregnant

they have since discovered that mine happen due to a hormonal problem which i am soon to be treated for, dianette was brill but had to come off the pill beacuase of dvt

i would wait for your results to come back as true acne is under your skin, so no matter what you put on it it prob wont help, mine got quite painful as they develop into boils how about yours

Not sure about this - it sounds as if you're using a lot of different products. Maybe simplifying things - I really like the Liz Earle stuff - it's very gentle, and if you use the cleanser , wiping it off with the muslin cloth helps exfoliate very gently, which might help with the spots. the moisturisers are great too - all very calming.

Has anyone had something from the Doctors that works!?

I would love to be worrying about wrinkles instead of spots. i have just switched to the Clinique products which seems to be helping . I also apply a layer of 'Panoxyl Aqaugel' to affected area at night. It is a benzoyl peroxide gel which you can buy over the counter for a few quid. It really helps, even clears up blackheads.

sliverx2 · 06/10/2006 15:09

How much did it set you back Sheraz?

OP posts:
earlgrey · 06/10/2006 15:21

Silver, I had those in my twenties. Must've been my twenties 'cos my niece 'kept calling them beef spots (during the beef crisis).

Dr gave me a topical solution which didn't really help at all, but in the end (and sorry to say, it was about a year) they all went.

How old are you? These weren't spots, they were like something on my face you would insulate a cavity wall with.

Sorry for you, but I do think they'll go eventually.

sliverx2 · 06/10/2006 15:32

I am 25, just really had enogh, i feel yck!

Panoxyl costs about 3 quid I think certainly not mega expensive. I am 35 and have mild/ moderate to sometimes bloody awful acne since my teens. When will I ever grow out of it?!! Pregnancy was horrendous - rela pizza face!

lotussister · 06/10/2006 21:20

I had this and they were related to hormones, I took zinc and omega oil supplements (and used a topical product) and they cleared up. Did take a few months though. As a bonus they sorted out my hormones and I got pregnant after many years of infertility!

Sheraz · 06/10/2006 21:28

Lotus - glad you got your infertility sorted, taht would be the last thing I need. If I got pregnat now I would break out in more than spots!

lotussister · 06/10/2006 22:41

lol sheraz. Does Dianette not work for you then?

Sheraz · 08/10/2006 11:38

Was on Dianette for years and it worked wonders, however wanted a break form the Pill. Now have spots............ using the Mirena coil which is ok but not sure if it aggravates the problem?

CurrantBun · 09/10/2006 16:18

Am in the same boat. Currently pregnant so can't take anything for my skin which is driving me mad. Had mild/moderate to sometimes bloody awful acne since my teens - completely cleared while I was on the Pill (Dianette then Yasmin) but came back about 4 months after stopping the Pill to conceive. It's worst on my shoulder blades but have terrible blackhead/whitehead lumps on one side of my chin. Every time I think I've found something which helps, it stops working after a very short time.

I'm nearly 6 months pregnant and am tempted to ask my GP for topical Dalycin T (my DH used it when he had bad spots in his teens) - it's a topical version of erythromycin which is the only 'safe' antibiotic for acne that can apparently be taken during pregnancy. I took it whilst I was TTC (in the absence of any other alternatives - I never find topical treatments very effective) but it wasn't that good to be honest - although better than taking nothing. I decided not to take it whilst pregnant 'just in case'. But the acne is driving me mad - I couldn't wear any vest-style or strappy tops all summer because my shoulders are a mess, plus the spots on my back are really painful at times (and always seem to be where my bra straps sit).

Initially I thought I didn't want to go back on the Pill after the baby but am rapidly changing my mind just to clear my skin up again. After 15 years of spot-free skin it's really getting me down. Problem is that the Pill only treats the symptoms, not the cause - which is obviously hormonal. Not sure what to do long-term as I obviously can't be on the Pill forever. Oxytetracycline worked for me in my teens but was never as 100% effective as the Pill.

doghouse · 09/10/2006 16:27

CurrantBun (and others) - am in v similar position. Have had years of problems but Dianette really sorted them out. Am now almost 4m pg and having problems again. As you say, Dianette only masks the problem (which is obviously hormonal) but surely in this day and age there must be something to control hormones without resorting to the Pill and even better soemthing that you could take during pgcy. I am using ProActiv (jury still out on that one after 3 wks) and dr just prescribed Zineryt which I have been on for about a week (topical a/b)... no real improvement yet. Did anyone find that further into pgcy it actually cleared up? Will I ever BLOOM?!

lotussister · 09/10/2006 20:30

Are you taking omega oil supplements? I carried on taking them through pregnancy and didn't get any acne. They're fine to take while pregnant, in fact I think it's advised. I was told they probably helped sort out my hormonal problems.

Sheraz · 09/10/2006 20:59

Lotus what omega oil do you take ? Is it common or garden Omega 3? I have 3 huge spots waiting to erupt on my chin as I type? My acne is not severe - the doc thought I looked fine - but it gets you down day after day I always have at least on new spot per morning...

sliverx2 · 10/10/2006 14:00

Horrid weekend, I've got this spot/lump on the side of my chin, ended up feeling off eating and drinking due to it over the weekend, and to the good fortune of my DH even talking, last night it got worse sending shooting pain up one side of my face and a horrid tingling feeling, went to the doctors this morning and he said it was a bad infection in/on my chin and given me some BIG tabs to take 4 times a day for a week, joys! I'm hoping it'll clear up all my skin as it' say's on the packet for acne too, we'll see and deep down I'm hoping that might of been what was up, deep infection in my skin, well you've got to have a little hope!

lotussister Which omega oil do you take ?
Thanks everyone for your advice and information!

Can I ask those who have used Dianette did it make you put on weight? Have never used pill and have had skin problems since birth of DD 5 years ago. Don't want any more children but don't need any help putting on weight as can do this well enough alone.

frumpygrumpy · 11/10/2006 20:46

I get this too! Have been telling the doctor for years i believe its hormone related and they always palm me off with some rubbish. I've been trying the herbalist approach who encouraged me to alter my diet (but my diet aint that bad). I was on dianette too for many years with great success but I know I'm only putting off the problem and I just don't want to be on th pill anymore.

Will try the omega oils and zinc and see.....keep posting everyone, there has to be a way....

lotussister · 11/10/2006 21:01

I take Udo's choice oil - I just add it to my food. It's a mix of various oils. Comes in pill form too, but I hate taking pills and I find the oil tastes just fine.

phatcat · 11/10/2006 21:05

I've read several recommendations for Mario Badescu Drying Lotion recently and was thinking of trying it out when funds allow. Dianette also sorted my skin out beautifully years ago (I didn't have any weight gain 2nerves), but I'm starting to get regular spots on my chin again now so need to do something. I might try the omega 3 supplement too.

2nervesleft · 11/10/2006 21:09

Thanks PC, dont you just hate having bad skin? Doesn't matter if you have cellulite or a big fat arse you can hide if you choose. How do you hide your face without changing your religion? I feel dirty when I'm clean and always feel at a huge disadvantage when I have a bad eruption. Sorry rant over... will go to GP for Dianette and hope for the best.
