Recovering from a haemorrhoidectomy . . . warning: TMI alert . . .

Has anybody ever had a heamorrhoidectomy, and if so, please can you tell me how long recovery took? I'm on day 12 now, and am still in considerable pain - I can't walk anywhere except the bathroom for the endless baths I take, can barely sit up unless I'm on my special donut cushion and even then only last up to 45 minutes. I have two young children, and I just feel that this is so unfair on them. And I'm getting kind of depressed about my lack of progress. I need someone to give me hope. Please?!
(P.S. If anyone is considering having one: strongly consider it. I've never experienced anything more painful than the first 4 days post op, EVER. I would gladly have given birth every day rather than going through the pain I was subject to.)

Hi @auslady nurse says wounds look raw but clean. Tbh I'm not sure what surgeon actually did in the end as he chopped and changed what he was going to do. I had a bigish roid outside which has been bothering me for yrs. He sd during a colonosocpy in Dec that I had small internal ones too. Right now I feel like I'm not progressing and usually I get over things so easily. I'm using pantyliners soaked in witchhazel from the freezer to cool and sooth the area and I only take cocodamol after BM as I dont wanna get constipated. Since yesterday the fullness in my butt is horrendous I feel like theres a bowling ball waiting to make an appearance 🤢is this normal??its great to read all ure wee stories and know I'm not alone and this will pass x

AusLady · 29/05/2019 09:36

Hey @Kimmiekimbo, I remember thinking I'd made no improvement in my first week either. Always in pain. Feeling anxious all the time because i didnt want to have a BM. It was just horrendous!! But I do remember there was a slight change for the better by day 10. I had to look up the medication you are taking because I didn't know what it was. I stopped taking codeine by day 3 because I was terrified of getting constipated, so make sure you are drinking heaps and taking some kind of stool softener/laxative as well.... just to be on the safe side.
I don't remember feeling like I had a bowling ball waiting to come out? But i think ive really tried to forget those first 2 weeks!!! I had a heaviness feeling and couldn't stand in one spot for longer then 1 min. But I'm all good with that now. It is amazing how we can have an open wound and had poop come it and we don't get infected. Glad to hear that it's all ok though. Must have made you relax a bit? I hope you have noticed some improvement since your last post. Remember to breath as well. 😘

So @Disneylover1, again a spot of blood on first BM this morning!!! And they also decided to change times again, 1 before work, the next was about 11.30. Just want them before work cause I've started to get a slight pain again that last 3-4 hrs after!!!

So I thought my health was fine too. Loo. Clearly not. Have a cold once in a blue moon, and only get cold sores when I'm stressed and run down from not enough sleep etc. But because it's taking soooooo long I'll try anything !! She also made me a butt cream that I picked up tonight after work so I'll put that on before I go to bed. And I'm sooo much like you, frustrated, pissed off, stressed out, blubbering mess and angry this is taking so long to heal! I don't know what else we can do.... But ask the surgeon to tear us a new one? 🤣🤣
I hope your time away helps heal your bleeding? Get a massage too if you can? Just to help you relax and not think about you bum!!! 😘😘

Disneylover1 · 29/05/2019 10:07

@AusLady - yes, I think I'm in the realm of 'try anything' too. I've been reading the Dr Ben Kim site that you posted and all the comments from people following his articles. Manuka honey seems to get a lot of positive feedback, so I think that might be my next thing to try. Who ever thought I'd be spreading honey on my butt😂 Do you know what's in the butt cream from your naturopath? I'm tempted by the Pranicura cream that you found too, but I just can't find any impartial reviews about it, just the ones on their website, so I'm a bit skeptical about that one.

I know you understand how frustrating and demoralising this long healing process is. Sorry to hear that your BMs are all over the place again and the post BM pain us back too, along with a bit of blood. I really thought we'd both be sorted by now as we've come so far, but just keep falling at this final hurdle😞
I had a bit of a blubber yesterday after the blood BM where there wasn't actually any BM! Today's my 19th wedding anniversary and I feel sad that I can't really celebrate it properly. Feel very weepy😞 My butt is dictating my life! My BM this morning was slow and sluggish and just didn't want to come out either. It wasn't big, hard or stuck in the traditional constipation way. It was just sat there, not moving. I try to relax, do the breathing etc, but I wonder if my butt hole is subconsciously tensed up so it's not releasing? So I had to rock and put pressure on my butt cheeks to get it to come out. Really not what I need on top of everything else! I'm now sat on my heat pad which I love and has definitely been one of my best purchases for pain relief.

Hope the rest of the week goes better for you xxx

Kandy88 · 30/05/2019 01:02

I hope someone is still checking the speed. I am 30 years old and a female. I had a vision repair and hemorrhoidectomy (1 hemorrhoid) this past Wednesday. I have been off of the pain pills now for five days because of constipation. I have been able to move my bowels now, however, it is usually a mess and very liquidy and so very painful as everyone has mentioned above. I have developed a UTI and was running a fever for three days before finding this out. That is now being treated with antibiotics.I guess I am most worried about the excruciating pressure and pain I feel during and after about movement. It seems like it Lasts for hours and I am literally in my tub moaning and crying.
A weird thing for me is this.. (hopefully someone can relate?) my left butt crack/cheek area is so so sore and like, harder than the right . It gets worse during or after a BM. My MD said “it’s swelling” but damn... it’s very hard and feels like it could explode:( -TMI- anyway, I’m suffering and can mirror most things everyone else has already said about the pain. Just don’t want to feel so alone😓

Kandy88 · 30/05/2019 01:06

*fissure repair , not vision

Disneylover1 · 30/05/2019 09:06

Hi @Kandy88 - welcome to our little support group and so sorry that you're having to go through this horrendous experience too. None of us have had a fissure repair done, so some of your symptoms and pain may differ, but we can all related to the hemorrhoid removal and BM pain😞 The first 2-3 weeks are the worst. BMs are very painful, and pain lingers for hours afterwards. I must have been in the bath 4-6 times a day, just to find any sort of relief.
What are you eating and are you taking any softeners or laxatives? I found that liquid BMs were worse as they burned and left me feeling like I was burning from the inside for hours afterwards. The trick is to find a balance that gives you a soft BM that isn't liquid. Liquid normally comes out fast, and that fast movement against healing wounds isn't good and will irritate.
I don't recall having a hard butt cheek, but I did suffer from butt cramp after BMs, especially fast liquid ones. It was like all the muscles in my butt cheeks went in to spasm and cramped up and was really painful. It took hours to subside and was really horrible. I found some guided piriformis muscle stretches on YouTube and they really seemed to help with relaxing the tension there. Not sure if it's the same thing as you though. There will be a lot of swelling, especially just 1 week post op. The swelling takes a while to go down, and a lot of us find that it gets worse again around the time of the month, so you might have that to deal with soon too😞
Things do get better though, but it takes time and can seem like there's no light at the end of the tunnel. Some are fully healed and back to normal life in 4-5 weeks, and there are some where it takes longer. @Auslady and I are in the longer group as we're both around 17 weeks post op and still not 100%. We're so much better than we were and able to get on with life, bit we're both just trying to jump the last hurdle to full recovery. I've read other threads with people saying it took a good 6 months before they were completely back to normal. I'm not sure how the fissure procedure will affect you though. One thing I do know is that you're not alone, and things will improve. We're here for support if you need it.

TheQueef · 30/05/2019 09:33

I'm in at 12 for a stapled haem.
I've been using this thread to prepare.
Thank you to all you lovely contributor s i feel forewarned! Flowers

Kandy88 · 30/05/2019 11:03

@disneylover1 thank you for responding! Honestly, the fissure is likely not what is slowing me down. The healing process for those seem to be a bit faster and less painful. The hem on the other hand... ugh. I just woke up with pain (burning and itching), went and rinsed off and noticed very little draining on my dressing. Other times there is a substantial amount of blood and what looks like diarrhea 😳
My diet has consisted of things like chicken noodle soup, crackers, waiter (of course), tuna, veggies when tolerable, and protein bars. Some fiber replacements have been added as well as a stool softener as the laxatives etc proved to be too aggressive for me😞
BMs are still pretty watery, soft, but then again, I just started the antibiotics yesterday and have felt terrible due to the UTI. The swelling / hardness in one butt cheek has me nervous still and without it, the pain wouldn’t be this bad. I may call and annoy the office AGAIN tomorrow

Disneylover1 · 30/05/2019 11:43

Hi @Kandy88 - hemmie surgery recovery is horrible unfortunately and does take a while until you start to notice improvement. 1 week is very little time tbh, but I know exactly how awful the waiting, pain, worry and anxiety is. Your recovery doesn't sound slow, it sounds normal. Unfortunately, a lot of us get told 1-2 weeks by our doctors and it's not realistic. Definitely keep annoying them though if you feel something isn't right or if you feel you're not getting proper answers.
I'm glad you've got something to help with the UTI as that definitely wouldn't be nice on top of recovering from this. Hang in there, it does get better.

@TheQueef - sending wishes for a speedy recovery your way.

TheQueef · 30/05/2019 19:12

All done and still benefiting from the local anaesthetic. I had a saddle block epidural so apart from Elvis hips I'm mobile Grin

Thanks Disney this thread is a big help.

AusLady · 01/06/2019 00:32

Hi @Disneylover1, and welcome 👋 to our group @TheQueef and @Kandy88. I hope you both a feeling a little better today? I too had a UTI after my surgery @Kandy88 and ended up with a catheter in for a week as well. I also didnt have pain on one side of my butt either like you are describing. All I can add to @Disneylover1**'s comments is to make sure you have a sitz or bath ready straight after a BM!!! It really does help relax you after the trauma of a BM.
How are you feeling now @Kimmiekimbo? Have you noticed any improvement with your pain?

So @Disneylover1, the herbal supplement the naturopath made for me I think increased the amount of blood for both my BMs so I stopped taking it yesterday. Slight improvement today. But it also actually stopped all the pain. I had no pain with BM and none for the rest of the day. So I'm really disappointed with that outcome.
I'm going to my Doc about the bleeding wednesday cause I've had enough!!!! In a perfect world she'd have a look and say, oh that's because of blah blah blah, take this and you'll be 100% healed in a week!! Id then pass on the info to you, youd be healed as well and then we could skip down the streets with pony tails in our hair! That's my wish anyway lol.
We both just seem to be on a merry go round!!! I know what you mean about the sluggish BMs and having to sit backwards etc to finish the job. Happens to me sometimes too.
So the cream she made up has zinc, castor oil, vitamin E, chamomile, st John's wart and marshmallow powder, and two other ingredients that I can't understand as they are abbreviated.... calen and gold s. Naturopath told me to also stop using the cream in case it was that too, but I'll try it again today to be sure if it was the cream or supplement. If it was the cream I think I'll just buy that Pranicura stuff and see if that stops the bleeding.
I'm really sorry to hear that your wedding anniversary didn't go to plan. But hopefully soon!!!

Kimmiekimbo · 01/06/2019 07:58

Hi everyone. Been in agony making no progress so had to see the surgeon Thursday eve at his clinic. I have a wee infection up inside and also spasm (which explains the bowling ball feeling and pressure in my butt). Had runny bms x5 yesterday which just wiped me out. Antibiotics start today for 7 days so heres hoping. Cannot wait to poop with feeling like I'm passing razor wire. Surgeon recommended anoheal for the spasms but chemist has had to order it in specially. I'm finding pelvic floor exercises r helping a bit with the spasms, like releasing the pressure a lil?? Hopefully a pain free weekend for all xxx kim

Disneylover1 · 01/06/2019 14:45

Hi @Kimmiekimbo - sorry to hear about the infection. They're very common unfortunately. Been there, and had the antibiotics! Once the infection has been cleared up, you should start to notice more improvement. Feeling like you're passing razor wire/glass is normal too I'm afraid. I've been left with a fissure after my surgery, so 17 weeks on, I'm still having that feeling - nowhere as bad as during the early weeks and some days are better than others. It's good that he's prescribed Anoheal. That's for fissures and is what I want to try, but need a new consultant referral or I can pay £280 for it. I've got rectogesic at the moment (GTN ointment).
Runny BMs are awful too - I found that they made me feel like I was burning from the inside out. I prefer a slightly more solid BM and the pain of passing them to runny/watery BMs as the pain from runny ones lasts so much longer.
To help with the spasms, I did pelvic floor stretching exercises and they really helped. This is the one I used which you might find helpful:

Hang in there - it does get better. Auslady and I aren't 100% yet, but we're soooo much better than we were in the early days.
Disneylover1 · 02/06/2019 10:09

Hey @AusLady - oh I do love your posts - they really make me smile. How I would love to skip down the street with you, pony tails swinging, all healed and happy! Pity we're on opposite sides of the world - we'll have to do it one day via Facetime or something!

Sorry that the naturopath products haven't helped as you'd hoped. Although being pain free is a big thing! Part of me wonders if I would put up with the bleeding if I was pain free and then just concentrate on sorting the bleeding? I think the the other ingredients in the cream are calendula, and golden seal. Are you still using it?

I did something yesterday that I never thought I would ever do in my life - smeared honey on my arsehole! You can officially call me sweet cheeks Grin I've read a lot about the healing properties of manuka honey and how it's helped people with fissures, so decided to give it a go. healsvtnaturally.wordpress.com/tag/manuka-honey-and-fissures/
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17369999
At the moment, I don't feel like I've got anything to lose. I also bought a 5x magnifying mirror (you know the type on a stand that people use for make up) and that's enabled me to see what's going on down there so much better. I can see where the fissure is (it's tiny!), and also there's a spot from where the hemmie was removed that doesn't look as fully healed as the rest. As I've got a few weeks to wait until I see a consultant again, I'll try my own solutions. I've also adapted the mantra and now repeat this to myself all day: "I will heal, be healthy and happy".
Let me know if you try the Pranicura. Between us, we'll probably end up trying everything, but hopefully one will work and we can put this whole thing behind us once and for all!
Let me know how you get on at the doctors on Wednesday x

AusLady · 02/06/2019 23:28

Hi @kimmiekimbo. Sorry to hear about you extra pain from the infection, hope you are starting to feel an improvement now. Just wondering, were you not prescribed an antibiotic after surgery? I was prescribed metronidazole which was an antibiotic and a pain relief tablet.... don't think the last one worked though. Lol.
I hope your diarrhea has stopped too. This operation is so horrible!!! But you will get better.

So @Disneylover1 or aka @sweet cheeks lol. How's the honey going? I had read the comments too. So you trying the olive and basil oil as well or just the honey?
Yeah I'm annoyed that I had to stop taking the herbal supplement too. Cause it was really nice not having the pain! But I couldn't deal with the blood like that. The cream she made also has some pain relief to it, but not as affective as the supplement.

So the bleeding stopped by my last BM on Saturday and no blood yesterday which was great.... then I went this morning 😥 and a bit of blood again on first wipe!! FML! I had a bit more pain when i went and had a feeling i was going to see blood! I don't think I drank enough yesterday??
I might ask my Doc for that anoheal as well? Even though I don't have a fissure it might help whatever the hell is happening inside my hole!!!
So you had an awesome view of your arsehole @Disneylover1 lmao!!! 5x bigger!! At least you can see what's going on. But tell me.... how are you doing the looking? Squatting over the mirror?
So while we are skipping down the street with our piggy tails and holding hands we can be singing "skip to the loo my darlin " lol. And yeah it is a pity we live sooooo far apart! We'll find a way.

AusLady · 03/06/2019 07:39

So I eneded up having a shit day @Disneylover1!!! Had 3 BM, 1st 2 were fine but the third was terrible. I had a feeling of having more to come out, it was the smallest amount and then I heard drip drip drip and it was fucking blood!!!! FMFL!!!! Fair suck of the fucking battered sav!!! God im sick of this!! Ended up taking panadol cause i had a heavy feeling just inside my butt hole that was aching. Sorry for swearing but I just have had enough!
@BrandiJo have you now come good from your last post? I hope so.

BrandiJo · 03/06/2019 08:22

Hi @Kandy88 and everyone else! I haven’t gotten on here in forever so thought I’d catch up! I see there’s a few new ones on here and I’m sorry we all have this surgery in common. But we’re not alone! I wanted to respond to Kandy88 and her one sided butt pain. I had a swelling/thick feeling area in both butt cheeks for about 5 or 6 weeks (maybe?). I attributed it to the position I was in during surgery and where the table edge was against my butt. They slide you down where your butt is hanging off the table and your legs are high in stirrups. I had a deep pain there and it was worse and stuck around longer on my left cheek. I don’t know why. But I’m assuming the surgeon was propping against my bum at some point during surgery and his added weight added to the pressure on the deep tissues of my cheeks. Maybe that’s what you’re experiencing? Ibuprofen and heating pad helped soothe mine. And I took at least 10 baths a day for the first 2 1/2 weeks. Honestly, even now most nights by the end of my shift my lower back and mid cheeks still get achy. I don’t know how long that plans to stick around. Maybe it’s because I’m 41 and already had some arthritis problems. Maybe normal people get back to normal sooner. I’ll be 3 months post op in a few days and I can honestly say I am so thankful every day that I had this surgery done. I’ve had hemmies since I was 18 and didn’t realize they were hindering me until I had the surgery and started seeing progress. I did accidentally let myself get constipated last week. I was panicking lol. I guess I had gotten lazy with my diet but that 1 day sure reminded me and I’ve been back on track. Life has been busy since my surgery so I actually had it done at a perfect time. I’ve been on a vacation, went to a concert, went to see my son graduate college, watched my last child graduate high school, found a house that we will be closing on in about a week, went shopping all day one Saturday with my oldest that came in from Texas....it has been wonderful. All their lives the have heard me say “my hemorrhoids are flared, we can’t go today” or “we need to hurry and get back to the car. This walking has made my hemorrhoids start hurting” or “no we can’t eat there. My butthole will not forgive me if I eat that” lol. It was literally every time we made plans. They are enjoying their mom and their mom is enjoying life again.

Bradle · 03/06/2019 12:29

Hi everybody. Not been receiving updates so assumed all gone quiet on here just thought I’d check up and sadly not! As some new names, means we’re not alone and nothing untoward about the continued long suffering post op. Of course when you research it’s a 2 month recovery! I wish surgeons were more forthcoming with the realities of this procedure and granted everyone’s different but the stories are much the same. I’m 6 months in and still no post op check they cancelled three times!! GP says all’s to be expected, still in discomfort and throbbing in one particular spot. My initial problems have gone but I fear I’ve more that will need attention in the future. Could I go through this horror again, Unsure. Anybody else feel traumatised by the whole thing?

NannyOggsCat · 03/06/2019 12:47

Hi ladies! Thank you so much for this thread, it's been nice seeing that what I'm going through isnt just me! I'm 12 days post op. Had 3 very large hems removed and the recovery has been a massive roller-coaster ride Confused..
Sitz baths have been a godsend but after reading some of your comments I'm definitely going to get a heat pad too! Still having lots of pain, wishing I'd never done this (but I was getting admitted to hospital for blood transfusions from the blood loss from my lumpy friends... Last admission my blood count had dropped to 52! So needed to do something)

Also, for anyone going through this... A word of warning, don't eat corn, or carrots.. Ever... That stuffs bad enough normally but after this op it turns your backside into a mini gun for days afterwards! cry

Thank you for your words of wit and wisdom... Its made this seem not as bad now!

Kandy88 · 03/06/2019 15:31

Hi all. Thought I’d give you an update. The hard one sided butt cheek actually turned out to be an abscess and beginning of an internal fistula... NOT good. I had yet another surgery on Saturday ( was admitted over night Friday night). I now have my bhole healing and an incision right beside it that has two string like things poking out for drainage... talk about being scared to poop now!!! It’s the most bizarre and scary experience... :(
The MD and nurses are reassuring me that my BM process shouldn’t be any different but.. have you ever tried to poop with an open wound on top of all your other healing wounds?!
I have to go back in 2 weeks to have the “string” tightened which will let them know the fistula is healing inside. Seriously. I’m exhausted and just want to be better. This has pretty much started my whole recovery over again.

NannyOggsCat · 03/06/2019 16:11

Oh no @Kandy88 you poor thing!

Lots of healing vibes your way! Hopefully you will recover quicker than you thought :(

Disneylover1 · 03/06/2019 17:31

Hi @AusLady - so sorry you're having such a rotten time of it with the blood. I get down every time I see blood too, but mine is only ever really a smear - never dripping in to the toilet. I don't blame you for swearing so much as I feel the same with just the slightest smear! I'm still taking paracetamol daily too, as I just want to get rid of any pain or sensation, even if it's not too bad. When I can feel it, even if it's only slight, it just reminds me that things still aren't right. I'm really hoping your Dr can give you some answers when you see them on Wednesday.

Not sure if the honey is doing anything yet, but it's early days. It's pretty messy though and I definitely can't sit on my heat pad when I've applied it - can you imagine hot honey on your bum! Last think I need is sugar burns! Shock I'm not using the basil and olive oil though as I wasn't really sure what they added. The olive oil will help with application I guess as the honey is pretty sticky, but then I don't want that to be obscuring the honey coming in to contact with the parts it need to be so it's not as effective. Never heard of anyone using basil oil before, so was unsure about that. I just got a pure manuka honey with a high MGO rating and will hope for the best. Still keeping up my mantra too.
My BMs seem to have reduced to 2 smaller ones, as I stopped taking the Fybogel a while ago - it was after I had a big BM that stretched things open again and set me back. I am still using a soluble fibre supplement called Benefibre which I can add to my porridge in the morning. I think that helps the first BM be soft and formed, before it gets looser. I'm thinking of trying an evening dose with dinner too, to see if I get get all of the BM soft and formed, and hopefully to come together as 1. I have discovered that my body doesn't like to go when I'm not at home though. There have been a few times recently where I've had to leave the house after the first BM, and can be out for hours working with no urge to go, and as soon as I get back home, it's like, bam! need to go! I'm not complaining as I don't particularly want to go elsewhere, but just hope it's not doing any other damage. I'm not holding it in and ignoring the urge - it's just not coming until I'm back home, so hopefully it will be okay.
So, to look at my arse in 5x magnifcation glory, I simply put the toilet lid down, stand the mirror on there and just look between my legs. The mirror can be angled, so it's very easy to do - no awkward squatting or anything. This is the mirror that I've got: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B075DZQV71?tag=mumsnetforu03-21
I need it to make sure the honey is hitting the right spot and to clean up the surplus afterwards as it's got a tendency to go everywhere lol!

Hang in there AusLady as we will both get there xxx

Disneylover1 · 03/06/2019 17:50

Wow, lots of posts on here today and lovely to hear back from some previous posters:

@BrandiJo - I;m so pleased to hear that you're doing well and enjoying life. I felt exactly like that after my first surgery - like a new woman and was so pleased that I'd had it done. It was so nice to be able to go out and enjoy time with my family without even thinking about my bum. Look after it though as they can come back - I know, hence my second surgery which has been a completely different recovery story and I'm still not 100% sure I did the right thing over 4 months on :(

@Bradle - I can't believe you've not had a post op check up yet after 6 months! That's outrageous! Sorry to hear that you're still having a few issues too. I did this a second time as my first experience was so good - still painful and horrible at the start, but fully recovered in 3-4 weeks. This time has been a different story altogether and I certainly feel traumatised by it. Would I have a third surgery? No, I really don't think I could unless the pain had become so unbearable that life didn't feel worth living. You know - when you get to the stage that you're willing to try anything. I'm simply going to look after my bum the best I can and hope that it gets me through the rest of my life without more problems.

Hi @NannyOggsCat - welcome to our group, although it's not a group anyone really wants to be a part of! However, the support, understanding and advice I've got from the people on here have been a great help. How are you feeling at 12 days - like you're starting to make some progress with recovery I hope? I'll keep my fingers crossed that you have a good 3-4 week recovery and not the prolonged one that some of us are having.
Definitely stay away from anything that doesn't really digest or breakdown fully. Sweetcorn is the worst for that! I don't eat anything corn based now - nachos, popcorn etc as it all comes out scratchy still. Soluble fibre (so fruit and veg without the skins) is your friend, and plenty of water.
I love my heatpad! I got an electric one so I can just switch it on whenever I want. I did start with a hot water bottle, but found it uncomfortable and it was pretty hard to regulate the heat - I was constantly wrapping and unwrapping towels from around it!

Hey @Kandy88 - so sorry to read your update and hear that you've had to have a second surgery for an abscess Shock You poor thing - you must be feeling well and truly traumatised and now have 2 things to heal from. Hopefully, now that the abscess has been caught and treated, your hemmie surgery will heal better and you'll be in less pain from the hard, swollen butt. I completely understand about you being even more nervous to have a BM though - I think I'd be petrified! Are you back home or do you need to stay in so they can monitor the drainage tubes? I'm guessing you probably can't soak in the bath for pain relief now either? Hang in there - it will get better, but really crap to be back to stage 1 again :(

NannyOggsCat · 03/06/2019 20:26

Hi @disneylover1 I'm feeling OK at 12 days... Had a rough few days at around 8 to 10 days after the op, serious pain which had me sweating, shaking and crying.. I ended up having to take morphine to try and ease the pain..

Thankfully been able to avoid taking that for a couple of days now, bms are still wallgrippingly painful (the corn hasn't helped!!!!) but the sitz baths are an absolute godsend.. As is blasting my backside with a hot shower afterwards...!
I've ordered a heatpad so that should come tomorrow (thank you amazon prime!)

Hardest part has been trying to find time to get the rest I need as well as trying to look after my young son.. My husband works away a lot so I'm pretty much on my own most of the time! It's been tough but having my boy gives me a reason to push through everything, he's the reason why I was still walking and going round things like safari parks even though my blood count was stupidly low Grin

Got my fingers crossed recovery carries on ok Confused

I hope you recover well soon, but i can't help but laugh at the thought of having honey smeared over your arse!!

Ok I spoke too soon.. Had a really rough night, really bad pain, sudden hot sweats, tons of discharge and I passed a lot of white fluffy stuff along with this mornings bm.. which I have no idea what it is..
Phoned the consultant that did my operation and he told me to come through and he'd get it checked out..
Apparently everything is healing OK, but I've been put back on antibiotics, morphine, paracetamol, ibuprofen and got a month's worth of laxatives...

My electric heat pad arrived this afternoon so that's been helpful, but i feel back to where I was around 3 days post op :(

I'm wondering why did I have this done? :(
