does it come and go with movement, or is it constant ?
It sounds like it is to one side rather than in the middle - so maybe not a digestive problem. Possibly a lung ? Did you pull anything - could it be muscular ?

I think maybe a call to NHS direct would be worth it - they can tell you if you should go and get it checked out.

CreepyCrawlyCarmenere · 04/10/2006 19:41

It may be your gallbladder, sounds like gallstones to me although I had pain in my right shoulder but the pain can be on either side afaik. Call NHS direct, you have my sympathy.

BabyBellaMummy · 04/10/2006 19:44

Hi
i to suffer from really bad trapped wind.

This will sound silly but if its trapped wind a hot water bottle should help
Dont suppose you have any Peppermint tea handy so try sipping boiled water maybe with some lemon.

Those are my wind cures so if they dont make a dent i suggest its time to ask the NHS

painful · 04/10/2006 19:51

thanks for your replys. i 'll try the hot lemon and water bottle if i can find one. something is starting to move but im still in a lot of pain and i cant believe its gone on so long. ds is teething and been crying in pain too and all i could do was lie on the floor next to his cot, that seems to have helped a fraction. hes ok now btw a bit of dentinox and nurofen for him

That's too much pain to deal with at home. Keep us informed.

painful · 04/10/2006 20:07

painful · 04/10/2006 21:37

well that was a panic. spoke to nurse and she called ambulance which worried me a bit. went round 3 neigghbours to get spomeone to take ds and next door had him. he was distraught when i left but ok now just having some milk iand i need a sit down

they did ecg, oxygen and bp all ok bp a bit high not surprising. they said theyd take me to hosp and that tehyd do bloods for infection or i could see gp in the am. have opted to see gp but have to call 999 if any worse. going to settle ds, get a drink and lie down. oh yes, they think i may have pulled a muscle or something as ive had a cough for a while

panic over for now, thanks

I think it maybe gall bladder to. Did you have anything to eat before you got the pain. Hope the GP sorts it for you.

CreepyCrawlyCarmenere · 04/10/2006 22:05

Glad you are feeling a bit better, I'll bet it was your gall bladder too, did you eat anything fatty like cheese or ice cream or mayonnaise before?

DelGirl · 04/10/2006 22:15

no nothing. still no ease up will see gp tomorrow, i'll mention it. its just one thing after another in this household , still we're still

DelGirl · 04/10/2006 22:15

oops, ite me , oh well it isnt wind so thats something to be thankful for

catsmother · 04/10/2006 23:29

It sounds almost identical to a gallstone attack. Feels like you can't get your breath, and an agonising stich-like (but much worse) pain under the bust at the top of your ribs.

I'd see your GP even if it has worn off by morning. I've found gallbladder attacks last about 5-7 hours and then you might go months without anything. However, once you've experienced one, it could come back at any time and you shouldn't get complacent as it's agonising and you might be in the middle of nowhere, or abroad, next time it happens !

I went to my GP in January and am still waiting for an op date, so if it is that, best to set the wheels in motion asap unless you can afford to go private.

My GP prescribed various stuff for me to take in case of another attack but also suggested as hot a bath as I could stand to ease the pain.

throckenholt · 05/10/2006 07:45

hope you are feeling a bit better now. sounds like they were concerned about heart attack or angina - hence the ecg/oxygen etc. So at least reassuring that it was not that.

I don't know anything about gallbladder - but I did have something similar once that was a pulled muscle - I have no idea what I did - it just started hurting - while I was out walking the dog actually.

DelGirl · 05/10/2006 07:52

slightly better this am though i think it's the ibruprofen. still can't breathe very deeply at all and its still very painful. am going to ring the gp in a mo. I hope it's a pulled muscle and not gall bladder probs cos I could seriously do without that. thanks for asking

heavenis · 05/10/2006 07:53

I remember the first time I had a gall bladder attack I thought I was dieing the pain was so bad. First the doctor thought it was acid reflux. It was only after one attack that wouldn't go away and I ended up in A & E that they told me straight away it was gall bladder.
I hope you get sorted and you don't get anymore pain.
