I Found A Lump In My Breast

Found it on Friday.
Managed to get an appointment with my GP yesterday morning,he was really nice and tried to put my mind at rest.
I have just had an appointment through the post for Wed 12th Nov.It says I will be diagnosed on the day.
The weekend was so long waiting to phone my doctor and now I have to wait over a week for the next step.
I think the not knowing is the hardest bit so far.

Thinking of others going through this.

I'm glad it's not just me that does stuff like that!

FrancesNiadova · 16/12/2014 21:11

I had my stitches out on my back, but I don't remember having them out on the skin graft at the front; I might have blanked that bit though.
Are you having a skin graft? If you are, then they check it every 15 minutes & are very rigorous about it. So don't worry about stitches, the nurses will be with you round the clock.
Sending you such big hugs. This time next week it will be out of you, gone, away & you'll have Christmas to look forward to with your family.

cleanasawhistle · 17/12/2014 13:52

Thank you.
Yes its the dreaded op tomorrow, just want to get it over with and be home as soon as I can be.
As far as I know they are just removing part of my breast, not sure about skin grafts.
Make sure you all take care of yourselves and hopefully I will be updating in a few day .
Hugs to all xxx

Good luck today Clean. I have kept an eye in your thread and I wish you all the best for a successful operation and a swift recovery.
Also, because that sounded a bit stiff I am also sending you a bit squishy hug and a virtual metre of jaffacakes (((squish)) (((orangey goodness)))

savemefromrickets · 18/12/2014 07:35

Scared is normal, I was petrified but when I woke up I was so relieved the cancer had gone that I'd have done it again like a shot. The only suggestion I have is to take the painkillers when they say Blush. My stubbornness made me have a few twinges which were unnecessary!

gurglehiccupsquint · 18/12/2014 08:44

Good luck cleanas. Just think of all that sleeeeep xxx

I'm home and I'm fine.
So got to the hospital at 8am and was put in a side room.
An hour later a nurse appeared to go through my notes and said I was supposed to be 2nd on the list but they had two emergencies using the theatre so there was a few hours delay.
The surgeon came to see me and drew all over my chest and breast.
He said I would be injected in the nipple with some radioactive stuff that would swell up the lymph nodes so he could remove a couple.
I said I didn't think I was having lymph nodes removed and he said yes but just for testing to be sure of no spreading.
So a lady came and injected me,another came for some blood and the nurse came back to do blood pressure.
So me and my husband sat there till 2.50pm when the nurse came and said get your gown and socks on.
3.20pm I get onto the theatre table and wake up at 5.40pm. By 6pm I am on the ward where everyone is being given there evening meal so I got sandwich and tea.
My husband walked in at 7pm for visiting time.
I have no pain,I just feel a bit sore.I have no drainage no wires hanging out of me or anything just a bandage in my armpit and one over the end of my breast.By 8pm I was out of bed and walking to the loo.
So before I left hospital today the nurse said she would change my dressing. My breast looks swollen but it doesn't look like it is going to be much smaller than the other...but the biggest surprise was when the nurse pulled my bandage off and my nipple is still there.
So now I am thinking thank goodness I didn't go for the full mastectomy because at the moment things are looking good.
In about 3 weeks I will get the results from the extra tissue they took and the lymph nodes.
I was told that in a day or two the pain will kick in and I will have to do excercises for my arm.
So far I just feel really tired but surprised that it wasn't too bad at all.

Thinking of everyone x

Hi cleanas, that sounds very much like the op I had in May. I didn't get too much pain, nothing ibuprofen and paracetamol couldn't handle. I did find that after about 48 hours it got a bit more uncomfortable and I found sleeping in a bra stopped everything moving around at night for the first few weeks. You'll probably find your armpit scar will be the most uncomfortable but persevere with the exercises, you really need to prevent those scars tightening up. Seven months on and my scars are fading nicely. I was very lucky, my breast shape hasnt been altered at all really. Fingers crossed for clear results in the new year.

savemefromrickets · 19/12/2014 19:28

Cleanas, that sounds like it went really well. Enjoy the feeling of relief! I hope it all heals well for you. I also second doing the exercises.

I've been told to be very careful of the side my lymph nodes were removed from (to avoid blood being taken on that side or blood pressure being taken), maybe ask if that applies to you so you are aware for the future.

FrancesNiadova · 20/12/2014 09:07
