Rash on 4 week old baby???

Could anyone maybe help with this.
I noticed yesterday that ds has a rash covering the whole of his back.
Its quite red but looks like very small milk spots but all over clustered together.
He has been quite hot over the last few days but his temp has been ok.

Could it be milk spots or related to him sweating a bit?

Do they look like tiny blisters? mine have all got chicken pox...they start on the trunk

YellowFeathers · 24/09/2006 09:07

No they're just like milk spots or like the puss filled spots we get but tiny versions.
He doesn't have them anywhere else.

Could be chicken pox, it's going round.

Lucybug · 24/09/2006 09:10

hmm....sorry just pox phobic now! I thought milk spots were mainly on the face/nose? could well be heat related as the back gets very hot...especially at that age as all they do is lie on it.
Sorry..not much help

Ok, so what do i do then? DD is ok, I think.

My friend's 6 week old has it, TBH she hasn't really been ill, just spotty.

colditz · 24/09/2006 09:14

Lucybug are you in the midlands?

Lucybug · 24/09/2006 09:15

if it is cpox it will spread very quickly...the spots appear very quickly. Its hard to say if that is what it is. The spots start off as small red blemishes which get bigger and full of fluid. Look on the head as that is where I noticed it first i.e in the hair..little raised bumps

YellowFeathers · 24/09/2006 09:15

How long does it take to spread then?

OP posts:
YellowFeathers · 24/09/2006 09:16

No none on his head, just his back.

Lucybug · 24/09/2006 09:18

no mid wales colditz. My 3 year old has been very ill with it...we spent the night in hospital as he kept fitting, my dd (5 years) has just a few spots and not many other symptoms and my othr dd (1 year) was very spotty and had temperature and sickness

YellowFeathers · 24/09/2006 09:19

I think i'll give nhs direct a call. How would he have caught it though?

OP posts:
Lucybug · 24/09/2006 09:19

well I noticed a few spots on the wednesday evening...by thursday morning they were covered...they come out in crops...moving over the body...the nappy area was worst in my 1 year old

Lucybug · 24/09/2006 09:21

no idea how they catch it. my 1 year old had it first...she's the one who isn't at school/nursery so heaven only knows!

I've just had another look at it and theres only a few puss filled spots. The redness has gone almost and the rest of the spots are nearly flat.

Hi Lockets!

I'll keep an eye on it and on dd. I'm saying shes ok but I've just realised that she started school 2 weeks ago so it could be shes carrying it, if that can happen.

If it flares up again then I'll ring the Dr.
Thanks for all the advice.
