It seems to have come and gone for a week or so, and every time I've been about to take her to GP the Sudacrem, or Metanium, that I've used seems to do the trick. Then it comes back.
Its not worse at night, as far as I can tell, though I've wondered about threadworms.
I can't see any eczema like dryness around the openings, though she does get mild eczema elsewhere (esp on her face, at the moment).
I haven't seen any discharge in her knickers.
She is recently potty trained, maybe about a month.
She says it itches and hurts in warm baths, particularly - otherwise just occasionally see her looking uncomfortable and rubbing at it.
I will take her to GP on Monday, but meantime - any thoughts? Tips?

LOL at you and the torch Elibean!
Does sound like thrush but would stop using the bubble stuff too - Tilly got thrush when we changed to Oilatum Plus as it's antiseptic.
BTW she'll probably be fine at the docs who may not even examine her. Tilly just walked in and said 'I've got a poorly fanny'!
With canesten twice a day it may be clear by Monday eh? If it persists you can get CanestenHC on prescription which has steroid in to zap it. Watch out for it transferring to her mouth tho as Tilly is very into itching/fiddling/picking etc and then having a good lick!! Little girls eh? Lovely.

aitch71 · 22/09/2006 23:47

is that really true about the worms? can you really see them with a torch? blimey, the things you learn...

Elibean · 23/09/2006 08:25

Thanks LL, taken that on board re both Oilatum and licking
aitch, so they say....not seen any, but is that proof they don't exist, as in UFOs?!?

frumpy, promised update...much less red this morning, and have re-applied Canesten HC (the only one we had in the house). But I've seen it be less red in the morning after Sudacreme too, so not sure if that means much yet, tbh.
Hopeful though...

Glad she's a bit better, ah the joys of being a woman! Poor wee thing.

Elibean · 25/09/2006 15:50

Ah yes, but she gets to boss her Dad around just like I do....

Still taking her to GP this afternoon - just to have a threadworm chat for future (oh I hope not present) use. And talk to him about piles as you say, the joys of being a (pregnant) woman...!

Thanks for all your support, Frumpy

Eli I'm also pregnant and dd has just had threadworms, it presented with horrendous itchy vagina esp at night - no itchy bum at all.
Only figured it out when I actually saw a worm as I was dressing her for bed one night

other causes are, scratched with a fingernail?
When girls get into knickers after nappies they tend to explore a lot more perhaps?
Or it could be thrush?
I've never had it or seen it so cannot comment on that one...
but FWIW chamomile tea helped the irritation

foxinsocks · 25/09/2006 15:59

ooh I was about to post a thread about this

poor dd (who also gets eczema elsewhere every now and then) has terrible itchy problems down there. Been to the GP twice - they say no infection but she is a bit red and inflamed (and it does not look right to me on the insides of her labia) and is literally itching every minute or so (and she's 6 and at school so it's getting a bit embarrassing).

Elibean, this chimes with your dd being recently potty trained - the first time dd had this itchy problem was when she was first trained and it was because her knickers were setting off some mild eczema down there. I'm not sure what washing powder you use but I have had to (today) get all dd's knickers and rewash them all with a more sensitive powder.

foxinsocks · 25/09/2006 16:05

and I should say (in case you read this later!) that the best washing powder to use for this problem seems to depend on the child - e.g. we find Persil non-bio tends to set off the itching in dd the least and the other more natural ones like Ecover or normal bio washing powders are the worst. However, you may have to experiment to find which one works for your dd (if indeed this is what the problem is - it's just the timing with the potty training that made me think it was quite similar to dd - should also say, no soap/bubble bath in the bath etc. but I'm sure you know that already!!)

Elibean · 25/09/2006 18:18

Ah, ladies, thank you....I'm so relieved not to be dealing with this without MN

Just been to GP: he says if I've been checking poos for four days and not seen any, she hasn't got them. He also said to relax and quit checking with torch at night and that if I am a bit itchy, being pregnant and riddled with piles (not to mention paranoid), thats to be expected.

He said just the same as you both about detergents and bubbles - and I hand't thought about detergents, plus yes, dd did forage around a fair bit after coming out of nappies.

I'm still a little on alert, but hopefully....

Hate to say it but you have described my daughter a few weeks back !! I tried everything like yourself, creams for nappy rash, thrush etc etc, back and forward to docs urine samples in for uti the works, then my friend who has 4 dd mentioned thread worms,so i gave dd a dose of the medicine ,i checked and checked and never saw anything(and i have seen plenty threadworms in my time due toi ds1 and his hands always in his mouth LOL).
Anyway from the first night of treatment for TWS she was fine!! all symptoms gone never have returned!

Elibean · 25/09/2006 21:10

Loobie, you confirmed my suspicions...wondered if the gp was just talking reassuring fluff. Yes, eventually I'm sure they'd show up in poo - but meantime, dd is still a bit itchy tonight, and I'm still worrying about it. I might dose her tomorrow anyway - and dh - thing is, I can't dose myself, which is the pits

OP posts:
Elibean · 25/09/2006 21:11

Piffle, if you read this again, what did you do for yourself - if anything? Just the hygiene stuff? ('Just' - ha - the idea of doing all that at 30 wks pregnant, yikes)

OP posts:
aitch71 · 25/09/2006 21:13

i was pregnant when my friend's girls got TW, and immediately felt itchy but i was fine once they stopped complaining about their itches. (we were all living in the same house at the time, long story).
i asked my chum, by the way, and confirmed that she only confirmed the diagnosis by the symptoms, she never managed to catch a worm in the act either...

Elibean · 25/09/2006 21:17

definitely going to dose the other two.
Thing is, dd has never woken up at night because of itching/soreness, which is the other symptom people seem to describe - isn't it supposed to be extreme itching??
Thanks aitch, I itch everywhere else too - on and off - did last pregnancy too. But this is really getting to me, I HATE the idea of worms being in our home and not dealing with them - and also hate the idea of having them myself and not being able to do anything to get rid of them. UGH UGH UGH.

TooTicky · 25/09/2006 21:18

Haven't read whole threadso sorry if repeating but bathe her only in water - no soap atall. Use natural laundry products - try soap nuts or Clearspring or Bio-D - ask in health food shops or try Natural Collection

Elibean · 25/09/2006 21:33

TT, I haven't used anything other than water for a week...except shampoo, on hair wash days (which has never caused problems before). Thanks for the link though, she has eczema so good link to have

dd and dh have taken Ovex, with no complaints from either - amazing - we will do the whole hoover/wash everything blitz tomorrow. Should be fun at 30 wks pregnant

TooTicky · 25/09/2006 22:17

Good luck!

orangeblosson59 · 25/09/2006 22:21

hi elibean i moved threads gave the family follow up dose 2nite no side effects so if it makes you feel better you could dose dd i heard you only see them in poos if they have had them for a while i saw them on dd bot so there was no question our end not seen any for a while but not counting my chicks yet!!!!hope cream or treatment helps your dd and you you must be knackered

Elibean · 25/09/2006 23:17

thanks tt and ob...she's dosed and fast asleep. Am not going to do my torch patrol tonight, fed up with it...must have inspected about twelve poos in four days!
She's dosed, I do feel relieved to have done taht at least - and OB, I hope thats an end of it for you and your family. At least for now. Have you done the hoover/wash/doorknob thing? I just don't know where to draw the line with washing stuff...am going to do it all in the morning, dd had meds last thing at night tonight, hope thats ok....

orangeblosson59 · 26/09/2006 10:26

hi elibean yes did the whole blitz thing boil washed everything after treatment changed beds then when putting kids to bed put pants and pj bottoms on both so i didnt need to do beds everyday boiled towels everyday and used antibac wipes, spray and handwash did the major clean in couple of hours damp dust but dont overdo it i wasnt preg !!! you will need to get a rest and a little time for yourself

milward · 26/09/2006 10:28

Just to add - check the loo paper at school - if's tough & she's wiping alot then it wont help the problem.

Elibean · 26/09/2006 11:57

good thought, but they have Kandoo at school (which may be the culprit, in fact...) and she isn't really using the toilet there yet, she holds on till she gets home!
OB, I know this sounds totally dim, but what is a boil wash? Is it a wash at 60 degrees? Have done that, changed bedding, detol-wiped everything in sight, not hoovered yet (dh is going to do that, thank goodness, I nearly fainted after getting down on hands and knees to clean under the loo!).
No, won't drive myself nuts - will just do it all again in two weeks with second dose. And anyway, I'm not treated yet - still waiting for homeopathic stuff in post.
And, not helping motivation, pristine dd poo this morning again and we all slept like exhausted logs: this is so confusing
Thanks for ongoing support!

Elibean · 26/09/2006 11:58

Oh, and as for me and my phantom itching, I slathered on the Anusol HC last night and hardly had any

OP posts:
Piffle · 26/09/2006 12:01

Eli yes I'm doing the hygiene stuff BUT only dd had any symptoms of worms
Dosed dp and ds but neither have had any complaints.
The washing is getting tedious though...
