Please can someone help me, sorry if tmi, I am on antibiotics for a nasty bug in my stomach. I'm halfway through a 2 week course. I'm on clarithromycin 250mg and metronidazole 400mg twice a day. I have the most horrendous thrush orally and vaginaly. Yesterday I used a canasten pessary and iv had awful tummy cramps all day. Iv just had a bath and 24 hours later the tablet is still there unresolved :( my bits are so sore and now I have it a'll over my tongue. My throat is sore, I can't get rid of this vile taste in my mouth, or cwench my thurst. Everything is so dry. What can I do

Oh dear Sad Try Garlic (sounds silly but I've tried it and it works. Chop a clove and suck it, it will heal your mouth, I promise. Canesten should work but it can take a while, so be patient. You should pop to your GP if it's still there after a few days.

I hope you're feeling better quickly Thanks

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 03/08/2014 16:32

How about the tablet, have you tried that? You can buy it from the pharmacist. Have you got the cream too?

DogandBeardedDragon · 03/08/2014 16:37

Thankyou, I will try garlic. It's the tablet pessary I bought but everything is so dry it didn't dissolve. I didn't think to get the cream as its all inside. Iv never had thrush in my mouth ever so it's come as a nasty surprise.

OP posts:
Getyourflipflopson · 03/08/2014 16:39

You can get the cream that goes inside. It comes with it's own applicator. Works a treat.

LadySybilLikesCake · 03/08/2014 16:42

You do need some cream too, that will help. It's external cream though, so not for up there Wink

I had stomach problems for a while and the only thing to work was garlic Confused My GP gave me all sorts but it wouldn't shift at all. It's gone now though.

DogandBeardedDragon · 03/08/2014 16:42

Thankyou, I will be straight down pharmacy tomorrow morning, I wish I'd known that before Blush

FannyFifer · 03/08/2014 16:44

Go and get the tablet for thrush, don't be messing around with garlic and yoghurt or whatever other mad remedies.
It's called Diflucan.

FannyFifer · 03/08/2014 16:45

It's an oral tablet by the way.

DogandBeardedDragon · 03/08/2014 16:46

Iv got H piori I had to go to hospital after being sick with blood and my test for the bug came back positive, so stopping antibiotics is not an option :(

DogandBeardedDragon · 03/08/2014 16:48

Thankyou FF iv only had thrush twice before so only new about the pessarys and external cream, tomorrow morning can't come soon enough

Can you find your nearest 100-hour pharmacy?. Mine is open til 10 tonight so there should be one in your area that is too (admittedly I live in a city).

You need some of the cream for definite, you probably need another pessary since this one hasn't worked (and btw I really wouldn't have a bath when dealing with thrush, unless lukewarm). And you need a tablet to help with the oral thrush.

If you can't get to a pharmacy I would get some live natural yoghurt and stick it where the sun don't shine - it will help with the symptoms in the meantime. You must be utterly miserable.

FannyFifer · 03/08/2014 16:53

Asda usually have a pharmacy or maybe another supermarket locally.

My DP had H-Pylori, the antibiotics are hard going, poor you.

DogandBeardedDragon · 03/08/2014 16:56

Thankyou for the link tribpot, I will look now, I'm not feeling great and the prospect of a 10 hour shift tomorrow isn't helping. I'm only in a small town but the local co-op is open so can go for natural yoghurt, I'm willing to try anything. I never new about the bath either

sonlypuppyfat · 03/08/2014 16:58

I had some antibiotics for toothache once they were horrendous my tongue had a thick crust on it and everything tasted of metal and I had thrush down there too, you have my sympathies but get the oral tablet.

LadySybilLikesCake · 03/08/2014 16:59

Most of the large supermarkets have a pharmacy inside which should be open. Do you have a local ASDA?

Garlic does work BTW. I wouldn't have suggested it otherwise.

DogandBeardedDragon · 03/08/2014 17:03

Iv checked the link, the local pharmacys have all shut at 4 :( but dp is going to co-op now for garlic and natural yoghurt, I hope that will ease everything until pharmacist is open tomorrow.
H pyola is horrible but glad it's been treated as been so ill with stomach for a while now and everything was fobed off as ibs

NHS choices should give you the times for the ones in the supermarkets. You may be able to find one which is open www.nhs.uk/service-search Sounds horrid Sad Onwards and upwards, hey Thanks

tribpot · 03/08/2014 17:23

All the supermarkets are shut now, except for the small ones like Tesco Metro (assuming OP is not in Scotland). No chance of a supermarket pharmacy being able to help - but if you keep searching on NHS Choices you should find your nearest extended hours pharmacy, OP. There has to be one in the area (albeit 'the area' could be quite big). You could also phone the out of hours service to ask where it is, but I'm frustrated by the fact there's no option to search for extended hours pharmacies on NHS Choices (and I'm about to tweet them to tell them I'm annoyed).

For the oral thrush Choices thinks you need a specific anti-fungal prescribing by a GP, will you be able to get to see one tomorrow?

DogandBeardedDragon · 03/08/2014 17:36

Thankyou again tribpot. I'm in the south west and don't drive, the nearest pharmacy would probably be Bristol and with no bus service either I'm stuck until the morning. Feeling quite weepy, my mouth is getting worse, it's like a green- white carpet and it's hurting to wee now although no idea why. I can get into Doctors tomorrow if I can get an appointment before 11. Is this contagious, I'm a fresh food handler but I know work won't tolerate me going sick

OP posts:
LadySybilLikesCake · 03/08/2014 17:40

Thrush does hurt, I'm sorry Sad Do you have some ibuprofen? It's not contagious. The antibiotics have knocked out the good bacteria as well as the bad, and a little fungal infection has kicked in.

DogandBeardedDragon · 03/08/2014 17:44

That's a relief, I had a disciplinary after I was rushed into hospital with the vomiting blood as it put my absence over company expectation. Will take some painkillers now and be on the phone to Doctors at 830

OP posts:
LadySybilLikesCake · 03/08/2014 17:46

Shock Wow, you work for a nasty company!

DogandBeardedDragon · 03/08/2014 17:48

They have been worse than useless
