Sorry for TMI - Mega Diarrhoea, 30 weeks pregnant

4littleones · 25/04/2014 23:08

for 48 hours now I have had the worse Diarrhoea of my life. Literally every half an hour ish for 2 days straight. Was even up in the night several times with it. I honestly don't know how there is anything left! Have also had tummy cramps on and off, although they seem to be improving - was in agony a lot of yesterday.

I had the exact same thing back in January, and missed my Son's 5th birthday as I was in hospital with dehydration. Ridiculously, it's my daughter's birthday and party this weekend and I refuse to miss another unless I am desperate. Bad timing x2!

I am 30 weeks pregnant and want to make sure the baby doesn't come to any harm. I am drinking as much as I can stomach and eating a reasonable amount.

Is this OK?

Also - my bum is sooooo sore. It's like an explosion everytime I go to the toilet and it's now so sore and is bleeding. I am struggling to walk after coming out the bathroom! I have used sudocream - is there anything else I can do to help?

Have you been in touch with the midwives? They might want to check everything's okay with the baby, movements, heart rate etc. I had this in early labour (full term) so they had me on the ward for a few hours to check everything then sent me home once happy. Are you sure the tummy cramps aren't contractions?

PeaceLillyDoge · 25/04/2014 23:17

I had norovirus at around 30 weeks pregnant and the Dr's wanted me to be checked out to make sure there were no proteins in my urine due to dehydration. I would ring the the out of hours service if I were you. It is important that you're checked out.

Also, diarrhoea type illnesses are very very easily spread so unless you want DD and her friends to catch it then you would be best to stay well away from the party. If you spread it to one kid then it just keeps spreading and spreading and spreading.

Northernlurker · 25/04/2014 23:21

You need to be checked by a midwife.

4littleones · 25/04/2014 23:23

Thank you for your replies. If it's still the same in the morning I will phone the midwife.

Please get checked and stay away from others to prevent spread. So sorry you feel like crap, I hope it passes soon

allisgood1 · 25/04/2014 23:28

Forgot to add OP that Imodium is safe to take.

YussMinister · 25/04/2014 23:31

Isn't there a 24 hour line to your midwife team, delivery suite or whatever? We called about the D&v I mentioned above and that's when they advised I come in for checks. At 2am(!).

Really think you should get medical advice asap, more than MN replies that is.

4littleones · 26/04/2014 06:08

hi. Sorry, I should of said. I couldn't go in last night as I had the children on my own, my partner works at night.

Trouble is with going into hospital is that you then can spread it to lots of venerable people in hospital. There are signs up saying to stay away if you have Niro virus.

OP posts:
4littleones · 26/04/2014 06:10

I haven't been sick. which is quite unusual for me as I'm quite a sick person. normally get sick at any signs of illness.

Trooperslane · 26/04/2014 06:31

Definitely get checked.

PeaceLillyDoge · 26/04/2014 06:42

You can get checked at a walk in Centre or gp out of hours. Doesn't have to be the hospital. Regardless of the signs about norovirus you need medical attention and by ringing for advice someone qualified can asses what you need to do next.

Ring the midwife unit or gp out of hours, no need to wait.

earlyriser · 26/04/2014 06:45

I had diarrhoea for the last few months of my pregnancy. I had my stools checked out several times, and there was no indication of it being a virus or contagious. It was awful though as i was up in the night a lot and it went on for weeks and weeks. Just keep drinking and hope it is over quickly. But do get checked out too.

allisgood1 · 26/04/2014 11:07

Please call the midwife. Several people with Noro end up being treated in hospital. Those signs are for visitors not patients.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 26/04/2014 11:13

They can isolate you in hospital so it doesn't spread to other patients. Call the assessment unit.

4littleones · 26/04/2014 11:51

it seems to have settled down a lot today so going to see how it goes. really don't want to cancel my daughter's party tomorrow unless I really have to. still not gone but has only been about 3 times today and wasn't so explosive (sorry Blush )

I'm now just very sore down below Sad

I really don't understand why you wouldn't want to get the baby checked? If you are dehydrated, in pain, not keeping much food down, maybe suffering a virus it's a good idea. They keep people isolated if they think they have a virus. Everyone here has suggested it so why even ask on MN if you're not going to take advice on board? Of course medical professionals are better placed to advise than MN replies so call and ask!

4littleones · 26/04/2014 12:45

because it's not that easy when you have no childcare and a million things to do. baby is moving fine, I'm drinking lots. not being sick and the diareah has slowed right down. This is the second time this pregnancy this has happened and iv already had 3 separate hospital admissions this pregnancy, each being around a week long.
I was admitted with dehydration before. The hospitals round here are over worked and under staffed. It took them 24 hours last time to get me my own room so I probably passed it on to hundreds of people in the meantime. I was sat in A&E for hours with D&V.
when I did get my own room they kept forgetting about me, so the drip I was in there for was empty most of the time despite me keep reminding them. So I could of stayed more hydrated at home. my room had no toilet and they wouldn't let me use the general one so I had to shit in a bed pan with explosive deareahh. I missed my Son's birthday party that I had organised.
They then mixed my blood results up and told me I had kidney failure, rushed me off and put me on various machines and did tests and gave me unsuitable drugs that it turned out I didn't need as they were looking at the wrong blood and I just had a virus.

so no, I don't want to go to hospital when it seems like it's already clearing up and I'm confident I am getting enough fluids.

I asked on here in case anybody could help with products I can use at home really and obviously would of gone to hospital if it got worse/wasn't improving.

Hope you feel better soon.

I'd be tempted to hand a stool sample in to Gp to see if a virus or food poisoning.

allisgood1 · 26/04/2014 18:16

Take immodium, it's safe

ellenjames · 26/04/2014 18:23

Please don't spread this around everyone at a party it is very selfish!

orphanblack · 26/04/2014 21:08

Hi, I had this happen to me at 32 weeks pregnant. I called the midwife who advised me to go in to maternity triage. (standard policy). They monitored the baby for 45 mins as I also had less movement. (They did bloods to be on the safer side, which came clear. The consultant said to take diarlyte to replace fluids and rest. Virus is contagious and advised that it takes normally seven days to clear. He did to advise any meds. Hope you feel better soon!

4littleones · 26/04/2014 21:08

iv been completely fine since this morning and the party isn't till tomorrow. none of my family have caught it so I would be very surprised if I spread it around the party tomorrow. so no, I don't think I'm being selfish! I would have to cancel the whole thing if I don't go and for what - an upset tummy 2 days previous? Hmm

I'm honestly fine now except for a sore bum! Lol. Blush
Thanks Smile

I've not taken anything for it, I would rather it all got out of my system to be honest which it seems to have done. I've been managing to eat and drink absolutely fine today and to be honest I've spent the whole day cleaning the entire house so it can't be that bad Smile

having a nice soak in the bath now then off to bed to prepare for a busy day tomorrow Smile

Despite you being well since this AM, I think it would be a very bad idea to go to the party. I appreciate it's difficult when you have kids but it's dangerous for you and for others.
