Over here for the hand holding

One in five women in the uk will have to have a hysterectomy at some point in their lives

Come and join us if you are waiting, pre-op, bleery eyed on the ward or recovering afterwards or just need a bit of advice.

Good to see you, letspretend, are you doing the new born deer sort of stance? Well done, wishing you a speedy recovery too.

Notpizza is probably flat out by now, good luck to you also.

Sorry Hello, not heard of that treatment either. Turns out I didn't have fibroids 'just' enlarged uterus and adhesions. Your surgeon's secretary might be able to send you more information?

I actually managed to get the bus to town and back by myself today! It's DD's birthday this week, and I wanted to go and choose her a card. I was only out for an hour, and I fell asleep in the chair when I got back, but now also been out to watch her riding lesson feeling much more like me again.
My rogue stitch is still poking out, but the gap isn't sticky now I'm using the cream, so hopefully it will heal again now.

I've also promised I'll be able to make DD a birthday cake, just a sponge one, hope I can stay awake long enough for that []

Hello I was offered Zoladex as a treatment before my hysterectomy suggestion but I had a good read about it and didn't want it. Though it doesn't look like I'll be getting a hysterectomy either ??

orangeplum · 16/06/2014 20:10

Hi everyone, I have been lurking for a while. Had a STAH on 20th May due to large fibroids. Have found all your posts v helpful. Still get very tired so just trying to build up strength.

Hello, I had Zoladex for 2 months before my op along with Norithsterone. It's hard to tell what effects came from what. The positives were that they stopped my heavy bleeding and allowed my hemaglobin to improve enough for my op. Was on iron tablets for 3 months too. I didn't get too many side effects but was definitely more tetchy and irritable. Had a couple of night sweats. Overall I would take it again. Good luck with your decisions. If I was you I would go ahead with op sooner than later. It was the right decision for me and the recovery process isn't as bad as I thought and I know I have left those awful days of heavy bleeding and fibroid symptoms behind.

marymoocow · 16/06/2014 21:12

welcome orangeplum. Glad you've joined usSmile Your op was the day before mine. Can't believe where these past 4 weeks have gone. I seem to be taking 2 steps forward and 1 back again at the moment. Had a fairly busy weekend (compared to sitting aroundGrin ), meal out Friday, visiting fil Saturday afternoon, church Sunday morning and my dad Sunday afternoon. Completely had enough last night with funny pains in my side, a bit like stitch but shooting. Not been able to do a huge amount today. Never mind, we will be back to normal eventuallyGrin .

TheOriginalNutcracker · 16/06/2014 21:56

I had prostap for 4mths before surgery hello. Not heard of the one u mention.

I've still got my catheter and drain in but they should be coming out in the morning and I can't wait.

All 4 of my surgeons said my insides were a car crash and how hard the surgery was. I'm just glad they were able to do it.

I've started my HRT and don't feel any different as yet but I know it's early days.

Hope everyone who's just had surgery is doing well. I'm just glad it's over Smile

orangeplum · 16/06/2014 22:04

Hi
Marymoocow - I am feeling exactly the same today. Hope it's just a result of overdoing it at the weekend.

I have sore bladder at the moment. Just waiting for urine test result. Has anyone experienced this. I don't just get pain weeding but afterwards too.

Nutcracker - sounds like you have been through a lot. Rest up and hope all ok.

orangeplum · 16/06/2014 22:39

I meant weeing -haven't been doing any gardening yet!!

TheOriginalNutcracker · 17/06/2014 07:07

Did anyone else get muscle pain in their back ? I think it's a combination of me tensing up and having to lie on my back all the time Confused

JennyOnTheBlocks · 17/06/2014 09:03

Morning everyone

I haven't had a night sweat for almost a week now - celebrations abound! I'm realising now, even though I'm still restricted due to the aftermath of surgery, how debilitating my previous condition was. Less laundry as I'm not changing pjs every night and the duvet cover has been on for a week, my moods are still wobbly, but nothing like the almost murderous rages I had before. I'm getting sharp pains just under my scar today though, so not going out and have got the house elves popping by to run the vacuum about later.

marymoocow · 17/06/2014 09:05

Yes I had/have back pain. I found alternating between bed, lying stretched out flatish, and sitting in a chair helped. Also getting up and wandering just for a couple minutes helped. I also at one point had internal back pain, where I think things were moving around. More so when I needed to 'go'Blush .
Still feeling run down today, think I might be coming down with dc's cold as well which isn't going to help.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 17/06/2014 09:05

Had to post then, ran out of space on phone screen

Nutcracker, I've had all manner of aches and pains, but keep an eye on that back.
I wish I'd made more of the localised pain I had at the edge of my wound. That's the place the internal stitch is showing and I've got a minor infection there.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 17/06/2014 10:43

Thanks all Smile

More questions, first wee after catheter removal, it should sting like a bitch right ? It also kind of feels like I need to go even though I've just been. I'm vaguely thinking from when I had my sections that this is normal.

I can go home later today so long as my drain doesn't fill up with wee like it did after my first op

JennyOnTheBlocks · 17/06/2014 11:40

My first wee wasn't painful, but it didn't feel right. He second one was much more normal, wait until that one, Nutcracker and then see? You might feel different then.

I'm not convinced that cream is doing much good, area is small but quite icky, just had a shower and dried it off again, if it's not dramatically improved by tonight I'm going to GP. Again

TheOriginalNutcracker · 17/06/2014 11:47

Jenny so one of your internal ditches is showing through ??

3rd wee was much better Smile

JennyOnTheBlocks · 17/06/2014 12:10

3rd? High five Grin

And yes, there is a small loop showing - approx 2mm - it's quite flat to my skin, but the doctor and nurse confirmed it is part of the internal stitches

I'm going to call them now actually, this isn't right. And I'm hoping to go out for DD's birthday tomorrow

notapizzaeater · 17/06/2014 18:20

Got back to room last night about 11, surgery took 2.5 hours.

Keep having nanna naps today and drifting off. I'm out if bed sat in a chair but not comfortable at all. Hurts to sit still, hurts to move. Surgeon came in this morning to see me but I've mo idea what he said Angry. Not sure if I'm glued/stitched/stapled etc. hopefully get more answers tomorrow.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 17/06/2014 18:40

Hello notapizza, and welcome to the other side

Do you have the morphine shunt in still? Keep pressing that button and try to let yourself sleep whenever you can, and if you're not comfortable, can you get back into bed?

I wasn't out of bed for any length of time until 36hours at least

notapizzaeater · 17/06/2014 18:47

I'm off morphine, had a. Suppository painkiller BlushBlush Going to get back into bed soon am shattered

JennyOnTheBlocks · 17/06/2014 19:12

Oh dear, I was left on morphine for a little longer than normal as can't tolerate diclofenac.

Yes, get back into bed my lovely, have you got any visitors coming to see you tonight?

You can receive them in comfort

PoonAnnie · 17/06/2014 23:20

Oh my god nutcracker. How scary! Glad everything is sorted now and you can begin healing. Be gentle with yourself.

Welcome orange. :)

Welcome to the other side pizza. Rest and take advantage of every person who offers help.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 18/06/2014 09:00

Pizza make sure you tell them if you are still in pain, don't suffer.

I got home about 9 last night Grin
I slept ok, much better than in hospital anyway.
Feeling a but frustrated at not being able to do anything but I know I need to give myself time.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 18/06/2014 09:01

Jenny have they suggested what they might do about the stitch ??

TheOriginalNutcracker · 18/06/2014 09:02

Oh also meant to say, I've been put in Tibolone HRT tablets. Anyone got any experience of those ?

gingeme · 18/06/2014 13:43

Good afternoon ladies. I'm going to say ta ta for now. I shall loiter and pop back every now and then. I hope all your recoveries keep going well and good luck to all who are waiting Flowers

ScarlettOHorror · 18/06/2014 17:31

Hello ladies. I went back for my three week check today and it wasn't great news. One of my ovaries was cancerous and they are having me back in for a full body CT scan and a biopsy of the omentum to see if the cancer has spread. Was a bit of a shock. But at least I'm healing well from the hysterectomy.
