Just jumping on to say hello and that I'm pleased this thread is still going!

I had my hysterectomy in September.
Followed by a mrsa infection- lucky me
Followed shortly after by a slipped disc in February. I am now suffering greatly with sciatica stemming from the slipped disc.
The moral is I think;
Rest rest rest but as soon as you can at 3 months or so get walking/ swimming. I struggled with this due to the infection I caught, so my posture rusted up and , the docs think that's how I slipped a disc. Too much pressure on my back. This will only apply to those having a procedure that involves a tummy incision, I think,
Sorry if this is not what you want to hear , but forewarned is forearmed.
Apologies to anyone feeling wibbly.
As far as the hyster is concerned I haven't looked back. I am on HRT and the lack of periods has changed my life.
X

gingeme · 10/06/2014 13:56

Thankyou crem. Will your back ever improve ?
Can I also ask do you bleed after the op as in like a period ? Alot of you are talking about discharge and wondered what this would be from !?

cremolafoam · 10/06/2014 15:29

No I didn't. Some breakthrough bleeding from the actual operation for a few days but really nothing much at all Smile

JennyOnTheBlocks · 10/06/2014 15:36

I had a bit of spotting, and minimal slightly coloured loss since.

Consultant warned me I might lose a clot/mass from where they've sealed off the top of my vagina (no cervix now) but so far nothing that's worried me

marymoocow · 10/06/2014 15:53

I had a bit of bleeding the first day I was up and about, but since then just a bit of discolouring which seems to have stopped these past few daysSmile . No cervix here either.
Starting to feel bored now.....says the person who thought she was good at doing nothingGrin .

LackaDAISYcal · 10/06/2014 16:31

I took in pads, but some liners were more than adequate for the amount of spotting I had; it was mainly when I wiped. This disappeared by day two and I then had a bit of discharge from the wound at the top of my vagina...again no cervix. I imagine if the cervix is left there might be more bleeding and/or discharge?

Good to hear from you cremola, but sorry to hear about the ongoing back pain. Re fitness; I am horribly unfit but am going to start my fitness campaign next week. Sick note runs out on Friday (10 weeks post op) but I'm going to take the full 12 weeks; having spoken with my rheumatologist, my connective tissue disorder means that I don't heal as well as normal people and they don't want me risking any joint damage.

Happy Birthday Nutcracker Cake I hope you are back on the ward and not too uncomfortable xx

Had my pre op today, blood pressure 120/70 everything else ok, so good to go Monday. Have to be at hospital for 3.30 so going to speak to school tomorrow and ask if we can grab ds early and take him with us, think he will be much calmer if he sees the room etc and sees it isn't too "hospitals" also we 45 min drive away so if they leave as I go in by the time they've had tea (mcd's on way home) etc I hope he won't have long to wait to hear I'm ok.

He's been nominated for a sports award (bloody miracle really as well as ASD he's dyspraxic) and the ceremony is the following Monday - his team came top of all West Yorkshire and we've been told he's getting the award - I CANT miss this - will I be ok for a 30 min drive then a 2 hour sit down and then home ?

Letspretenditsnothappening · 11/06/2014 10:02

Hi pizza

Glad the pre-op went ok and you're all systems go for next Monday.

What a dilemma re the Sports presentation! Hope someone with more experience can give an opinion. From what I've read on here, sitting for 2 hours might be a bigger problem than the drive, so when you're asking school about allowing ds out early on Monday, maybe you could see if they could give you a seat where you could get up and go elsewhere for a bit without causing a disturbance. They might even be able to reshuffle the presentation so that your ds is near the beginning.

If I'm honest, I think you won't do yourself any favours by going, but I totally see why you want to, and why you would risk setting yourself back a few days by going.

I guess you can really only decide after your op when you see how you feel.

Not long now ... Confused

marymoocow · 11/06/2014 11:21

Hi pizza. I personally couldn't sit on a normal chair after one week and only just coped with a half hour drive on Friday (2 weeks and 2 days post op.....you'll be amazed how many bumps there are in the road). However as a mum we will always do the impossible and suffer the consequences later. You must be immensely proud of your ds and will obviously want to be there to celebrate with him. You, and only you, will be able to know whether you are up to it once you have had your op. Good luck with both your op and your decision Smile .

JennyOnTheBlocks · 11/06/2014 11:31

Congratulations to your DS, notapizza, that's an amazing achievement.

And glad everything is ok for your op.

I still struggle to sit upright in a solid chair (or stay in the same place if I'm honest) for any length of time, and I'm 3 weeks post now. if I'm honest, I can't even remember how I felt 2 weeks ago, it's all a bit of a blur. A half hour car journey might be ok, put a very soft cushion under your bottom, and a firm one over your lap, but adding all that time up (it's bound to over run, people will want to talk to you etc)
I think you might struggle. I so want to say how you'll be fine, but don't want to get your hopes up.

Shewhowines · 11/06/2014 16:33

Is it abdominal? I can't remember, sorry.

If it is, then it's another, you may be biting off more than you can chew. I wouldn't have been up to it. Can someone video it for you, so you can re-live it with him later?

notapizzaeater · 11/06/2014 16:40

Yes it abdominal - up and down about 8- 10 inches, think ill draft my mum in to go with DH AngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

TheOriginalNutcracker · 11/06/2014 17:49

Hi guys just a quick updat to say my op went really well and I didn't need a colostomy Grin

I feel really well and the only pain I'm in is from trapped wind lol.

marymoocow · 11/06/2014 17:56

Oh well done Nutcracker. I'm so pleased for youGrin

JennyOnTheBlocks · 11/06/2014 18:02

Great to see you, Nutcracker, and fab news about not needing colostomy - keep taking the peppermint and wishing you a speedy recovery

Letspretenditsnothappening · 11/06/2014 18:12

Well done nutcracker! So pleased to hear you are now on the path to recovery.

Letspretenditsnothappening · 11/06/2014 18:15

Anybody seen Annie lately? I'm a bit worried I overdid the "advice" last weekend and scared her off Blush

notapizzaeater · 11/06/2014 18:22

That's brilliant nutcracker, did you get a cake ?

Letspretenditsnothappening · 11/06/2014 18:25

pizza - another thought - I'm not very good at modern technology, but is there any chance the school has an IT teacher who knows how to do a webcast or something so you could watch "live" on the computer at home? Failing that, could your DH use wifi to Skype you? Or FaceTime (whatever that is)? Confused
Maybe someone more technically skilled will be along soon to advise ...

gingeme · 11/06/2014 19:32
