i use sea pearls which i find great. they are a sponge which you rinse out and reuse.cost effective (much cheaper than tampons), enviromentally friendly and no risk of tss.

Piffle · 16/08/2006 22:35

ECB!!!!! I was starting to think I was the only person to have heard of sea pearls!!!! I used to use em, but got sick of changing so often, so switched to divacup. Still have them for the days when I just can't be bothered with the cup. Great things.

MerlinsBeard · 16/08/2006 22:51

Where d'you get sea pearls from?

expatinscotland · 16/08/2006 23:24

I LOVE mine! After 3 cycles, I'm soooo pleased I found it.

Thanks, MN!

Adorabelle · 16/08/2006 23:34

I had 1 of these new fangled coils fitted after
the birth of my dd & was told that my periods
would probably stop. They haven't.

Am really hating having to use tampons/pads at night & was v.interested in the mooncup. Where is the cheapest place to get one, & had to have a c.section & coil fitting was bit uncomfortable so what size do I go for? Am 30. Can it be worn for whole of your period?

Sorry if I sound like a real Dunce!

expatinscotland · 16/08/2006 23:36

There are two sizes. One for women under 30/virgins/women who haven't given birth, etc. One for everyone else. I think it's B.

That's the size you want.

They are FAB! I absolutely love mine.

Adorabelle · 17/08/2006 00:53

Thank you expatinscotland, have been thinking
bout getting one for a while.

It is now after midnight & I know the wages have
gone in the bank so i'm gonna order one right now, b4 I chicken out!

Will give an update on how I get along with it....

Tatties · 17/08/2006 09:24

Go for it Adorabelle! But I think size A is the one you need if you have given birth vaginally or are over 30. I got mine from the mooncup website - loads of info on here too. It is a bit strange the first couple of times but you quickly get used to it. You take it out to empty and clean as frequently as you would change pads or tampons to begin with, but if your flow is really light you can leave it longer.

Caligula, I have seen sea pearls in some health food shops.

CheesyFeet · 17/08/2006 09:51

Yup, size A for vaginal births or over 30's.

Get one, you won't look back!

threebob · 17/08/2006 09:57

My tip is to insert it wet.

I love it - first time last month and absolutely no problems.

ecb · 17/08/2006 10:30

have a little look....
www.seapearls.co.uk.
i chose to go for these as opposed to a cup as i had heard that the cups can be quite "hard" and i fancied something softer.
p.s. you can also leave themin whilst having sex

sassy · 17/08/2006 10:40

I have a question or two as i have just joined the Mumsnet Mooncup Massif (yo sistahs )

I'm experiencing a bit of night time leakage - how should I combat this?

Also, I'm finding the rummaging is making me a bit sore up the foof. Is this just cos I am new to it - I presume it improves as my technique does? I've cut the stem pretty short as that was rubbing.

Generally impressed tho.

CrocodileKate · 17/08/2006 10:45

Bought my mooncup yesterday. Will get up the courage to try it eventually.

Jazzi · 17/08/2006 10:47

What the hell is a mooncup???

expatinscotland · 17/08/2006 10:50

Sassy
If you're having heavy flow days, it is possible to have nighttime leakage.

If not, give the base a good twirl once you've insterted it. That should set the seal.

The trick to easy removal is to bear down a bit when you're ready to remove it. Like you're pushing.

Until the cup descends enough for you to easily grasp the base between your fingers. Then squeeze it hard. This will release the seal and make it easier to get out.

Don't give up!

My first three cycles I had removal issues. All sorted now!
