Had a lap yesterday and have another thread floating around about the problems pre op. The problems all seem gynae related and yet they told me they found nothing. Yet leading up to the surgery I've been in on/off pain that involves sex, cramps, ability to walk, about like periods and lots of very low down abdomen pain plus occasional back and thigh pain.

Don't know what to do as they want me to now see a surgeon who specializes in bowels but Im not convinced it's bowel related as i have no symptoms but I will try that route.

I just don't know what to do. Been having on/off pain for a year now and it's increased so much in intensity lately that my quality of life is rubbish and Im desperate.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Then surely they should've had a better look? I was told it was a half hour job and DP said I was in & out very quick considering how long the leaflet told us it would take. I'm putting aside £200 this month to go and see this specialist if the GP is rubbish when I go back. I can't afford anything beyond that but it might be the catalyst I need! I really just don't trust them and think the before/after care has been awful too.

I didn't even get told how to take care of my stitches or told about a follow-up etc Hmm

Surely some places are better? Or is it generally like that with most Gynae wards?

I certainly think that you need to see the specialist you are planning on seeing asap even if the GP does not refer you. You need to sit down and discuss all that has happened to date with a properly qualified gynae.

Are you still keeping the pain and symptom diary?. Do not forget to show this person that also.

Think the post op care you've received is also anything but any good as well.

I was not allowed to leave hospital until I was able to use the toilet and open my bowels without any problem.

Thanks.

I am still keeping the diary. Also writing down food as I was asked to but there's no obvious correlation. Just like I told him there wouldn't be...but nevermind!

Hi,

Sorry to read all your going through, I would say don't rule out the bowel though, I have a very similar history and my lap was also negative. Mine turned out to be crohns, ibs and reflux disease which I am now being treated for.

My pain is worse with my periods and sex can be very painful if it causes pressure/knocking against the intestine (I have an ulcer in the place I get the pain in my intestine) I don't have the traditional bowel symptoms.

I hope you get answers soon, I remember the utter frustration of being told it was stress/in my head etc. it did take several years to finally get to the bottom of it.

Thanks. Im happy for them to investigate bowel causes. But right now they don't want to do anything.

Was anyone's first period post-lap extra painful?

Have worse cramps and a lot of backpain which isn't common for me.

My first 2 post lap were painful especially around 48 hours in but ok after that.

TheOrchardKeeper · 10/03/2014 06:18

Thanks.

It's actually 2 days late (but this does happen sometimes). Stopped taking the pill on Wednesday and it normally only takes 3 days to appear but it is late every now and again.

I've always found the day or so before and the first day of a period the most painful for some reason anyway.
