Negative gynae laparoscopy. eWhat now?

TheOrchardKeeper · 01/03/2014 09:03

Had a lap yesterday and have another thread floating around about the problems pre op. The problems all seem gynae related and yet they told me they found nothing. Yet leading up to the surgery I've been in on/off pain that involves sex, cramps, ability to walk, about like periods and lots of very low down abdomen pain plus occasional back and thigh pain.

Don't know what to do as they want me to now see a surgeon who specializes in bowels but Im not convinced it's bowel related as i have no symptoms but I will try that route.

I just don't know what to do. Been having on/off pain for a year now and it's increased so much in intensity lately that my quality of life is rubbish and Im desperate.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks fab. When I asked why they didn't look anywhere else they said they just looked at the gynae related stuff as that's all they specialize in. But at my pre op they mentioned looking at appendix etc but said they didn't post op. Very angry I've had to go through a half arsed op for nothing tbh Angry

It was just two holes, so one for the camera in my belly button and one for the tool in my lower left abdomen. I was under the impression they'd make 3 cuts so was a bit confused by that too. Nevermind.

I've only ever had two holes as well, in the same places as you

TheOrchardKeeper · 02/03/2014 10:54

Ah ok. The nurse who did my pre op said they might do 3. Not sure why.

OP posts:
tak1ngchances · 02/03/2014 11:08

If they can get a good view with two, then they leave it at that.

How are your pain levels today?

TheOrchardKeeper · 02/03/2014 11:13

Ah ok. The cuts don't hurt much anymore thanks, but I've still got pretty severe pain in the lower middle area where it hurt before surgery. Probably just where they irritated the area by looking around. Feel quite faint once the painkillers start wearing off but am trying to rest as much as possible.

Been taking tramadol, paracetemol and ibuprofen for pain. It's making me forgetful and dopey as hell. Tried just taking 50mg of tramadol but it doesn't do enough so still have to take 100mg. Bit miffed as I've been taking tramadol for a month now and keep trying to cope with codeine instead but it does nothing. Don't want to take tramadol long term but nothing else touches the pain Blush

DM rang today to tell me to leave it Hmm and to just go down the general surgeon route as suggested after the op. I have no bowel symptoms though. Not 1 Confused Im just not convinced that they did all they could.

I expected the gas to be the worst bit from what everyone else told me last week but the only bit that hurts much now is where the pain was originally coming from.

Have written down what i want to say to the dr tomorrow as im useless atm especially on the strong stuff and dp will help back me up on what he's seen of it.

Still feel quite faint but think that's the GA still wearing off plus the tramadol! Grin Blush

Sorry your having such a bad time, I had a lap with 2 incisions where they checked my ureters and bladder too, because they found stage 4 including ony bladder the second lap they went up the bum too! That time I had 3 incisions, the op was 3 hours long and the gas pain was terrible afterwards, with the first I felt nothing x

TheOrchardKeeper · 02/03/2014 19:19

Sounds horrid. Hope you're much better now Thanks

And thanks. It's just frustrating and I know something is wrong, as it's been so painful but I just don't know what. Id swear it was gynae related though due to the symptoms.

Thankyou

I also at one stage of had to pay private to see a great gynae in Manchester, it was £200 and I manage to get my surgery on the NHS but its worth doing, you need to find someone who specialises in endo x

TheOrchardKeeper · 02/03/2014 19:51

Thanks. I'll see what the GP says tomorrow but I doubt she'll be of much help referral wise. Worth a try though!

As an endo sufferer I completely agree with what others have posted here to you. I am so sorry you are suffering but unfortunately what you say doesn't shock me at all.

I had 3 laps that I was told showed nothing despite being in agony like you. I was much younger then. I then went to see a private gynae who specialised in endo and he diagnosed it the first time he did a lap on me - that was my 4th.

It is missed so often by general doctors/surgeons and needs a specialist. It is so frustrating and such an awful thing to have to put up with.

You should push and not stop pushing until you get answers.

Lauren - did you see Dr Pickersgill by any chance? Or Dr Lieberman? Both great gynae's in the Manchester area, I have seen them both over time.

Lauren83 · 02/03/2014 22:35

Hi Rich Tea

No it was Dr Edi Osagie, I can't recommend him enough, I have heard good things about Dr Pickersgill

I did see him privately first then NHS, had it on bladder, bowel, pod, blocking my ureters, 15cm cyst! He removed every last bit, how are you now?

Lauren x

GW297 · 02/03/2014 22:59

It took me lots of ultrasounds before they agreed it could be endo and did a lap to remove it. I queried why it hadn't been picked up before and the consultant said it depended on how experienced the sonographer was. I kept saying I'm in so much pain I think it's endometriosis too. Sorry you are going through all this pain and worry.

TheOrchardKeeper · 03/03/2014 09:15

Thank you.

I've double checked this specialist's site and I can get an appnt via GP if they refer me. It's just convincing the GP that I need a second opinion after a negative laparoscopy that will be nigh on impossible.

The more the pain from the op subsides the more I can feel the pain that was there before. It's just shite.

OP posts:
tak1ngchances · 03/03/2014 09:24

I have also heard excellent things about Edi

TheOrchardKeeper · 03/03/2014 09:53

Fucking terrified of having a period soon. The last one was agony even on the strong painkillers. I was convinced I was having an ectopic or something as the cramps felt like contractions that came in waves. Fingers crossed though.

TheOrchardKeeper · 03/03/2014 10:48

Get ds back today. Really stressed. Can't really do anything. Still very sore. exhausted, keep waking up every few hours. It's just a nightmare Sad

OP posts:
AttilaTheMeerkat · 03/03/2014 11:04

Think you see the GP today, am I right in thinking this?.

My periods were agony as well even on strong painkillers and I also note that this pain comes in waves; that also made me nod in recognition.

Impress on this person the need for further specialist help; just because the gynae did not find something does not mean to say that there is no problem in that area. Do not take no for an answer and be insistent on seeking further specialist help. I am certain that the people who did your lap missed something fundamental here.

TheOrchardKeeper · 03/03/2014 11:12

I was supposed to but don't feel well enough. Will get a taxi tomorrow. Still very faint today.

I feel so fobbed off. No mention of what next, just said they've done their bit and I have to go back via the gp. So more waiting, more pain, all whilst trying to look after a 3 year old. It's just completely overwhelming.

Im sure I'll feel stronger tomorrow. Just still reeling a bit. Wine

OP posts:
TheOrchardKeeper · 03/03/2014 11:14

I've got the details of this specialist to give to the gp and ask for a referral. She should be able to but max decide not to, in which case I'll explain that I'll try every gp in the surgery as I feel it's necessary.

OP posts:
TheOrchardKeeper · 03/03/2014 18:51

bellybutton is feeling pretty sore but think it's where the stitches are settling/dissolving a little already. It happened with my post birth stitches and was very itchy. Feel like Im having a bad period too but im not bleeding at all. Just residual op pain.

OP posts:
TheOrchardKeeper · 04/03/2014 07:34

gp later.

Round 2! Grin Hmm
