Not been to the toilet for over a week now. Got to the stage where I cannot eat. Nothing is working I have tried exlax chocolate, suppositories, laxido (8 sachets) & dulcalax pico pearles plus lots of water. The out of hours GP prescribed the pico pearles last night & I took them about 10 1/2 hours ago as well as the max dose of laxiod again & suppositories. Supposed to work within 6 to 12 hours, still nothing.. What else can I try? I don't want to spend Christmas day on the toilet or unable to eat. :(

I don't understand why the hospital didn't do the referral themselves?

LEMoncehadacatcalledSANTA · 26/12/2013 09:49

Ca I nominate the OP For the most positive in the face of adversity award! If this were me I.this thread would be full of self pity and berating everyone around me. The op has remained chipper and dignified throughout her ordeal and that makes her pretty amazing in my book!

I really hope something moves soon, horrible for you - Flowers

ppeatfruit · 26/12/2013 10:06

Oh dear poor you pixie I agree with LEMonce you are amazingly good natured considering everything !!! Linseed oil and or ground pumpkin seeds are good to help things along. Even the smallest amount of gluten won't help though Sad

tribpot · 26/12/2013 10:10

Yep, OP has been a marvel. Unlike the sodding health service.

I can't help thinking of Fred and George Weasley's trick pills U No Poo.

Pixiedust1973 · 26/12/2013 12:24

Back again. Thanks for all your lovely messages of support. Perhaps my problem has been I left it too late before starting the sledgehammer treatment plan. Didn't realise it would get to this stage. I have probably been a bit too agreeable too. Had it not been Christmas day & i wasnt feeling so wretched through lack of sleep I would of insisted on staying in. Ended up having a reasonably good day in the end despite lack of poo still. Managed to eat a little bit of Christmas dinner & felt terrible after so went to sleep for a while. Later on we opened presents & my boyfriend asked me to marry him & gave me a gorgeous ring. :) Will continue with the poo treatments today. About to go to town & see if a short walk will help. If nothing happens its back to the gp tomorrow I suppose..

Congratulations! Let's hope poo follows suit and you can have a double celebration!

DeadMansBones · 26/12/2013 12:27

fingers crossed the poo makes an appearance soon.

tribpot · 26/12/2013 12:36

Wow - congratulations, I'm amazed you're managing to feel pleased about anything at the moment Grin

LucyLasticKnickers · 26/12/2013 13:08

soupmaker · 26/12/2013 13:17

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 26/12/2013 13:34

LEMoncehadacatcalledSANTA · 26/12/2013 13:44

When I saw the congratulations I thought you had managed a poo! Did the congratulations was a bit weird! Romance is not dead massive congratulations from me too x

flatmum · 26/12/2013 13:51

I get this chronically post childbirth it's a nightmare I really sympathise. I have recently had a vaginal repair which has helped a bit. I've tried everything listed on here. Only things that ever helped were Dulcolax tablets and an enema whilst in hospital and running (last thing you feel like I know) Hope you get some relief soon.

helzapoppin2 · 26/12/2013 13:54

Pixie, congratulations! Hope situation resolves soon and you can go home.

revivingsnowshower · 26/12/2013 14:04

Ha ha I thought congrats were a bit Ott reaction to you having a poo too! But that is lovely and I hope you are better soon and able to enjoy things. Do let us know if you are better, even though it is a bit nosy of us to be enquiring about the state of your bowels. I would love to hear you are feeling better and also interesting to know what worked. I will definitely start taking a laxative if ever I use codeine as a painkiller in future, as it had a bad effect on me, not as bad as you, but bad enough!

ChineseFireball · 26/12/2013 14:12

Oh wow pixie congratulations on your engagement! How lovely Smile

RomulanBattleBagel · 26/12/2013 14:35

Congratulations pixie! Maybe keep the poo situ quiet from any potential best men, lest it makes its way into the wedding speeches Xmas Wink

Shocking you've had such crap treatment at ESH. I have mostly had good experiences there unlike my nearer hospital (Crawley)

BikeRunSki · 26/12/2013 17:42

Pixie, congratulations! Although I wish I was congratulating you on having a poo!!!

I didn't poo for 4 weeks when I was pg with dd, despite Lactulose, movicol, senna, suppositories and lots of water and dried fruit and a spell in hospital. Then one day I went for a long walk - that got everything moving! I am sure you must have tried this.... but just in case.

SauvignonBlanche · 26/12/2013 17:45

Congratulations on your engagement OP, sorry to see you've not been yet though. Xmas Smile

starofbethlehemfishmummy · 26/12/2013 17:48

Congratulations on the engagement!!
I hope you go soon""

PacificDingbat · 26/12/2013 18:06

I am coming very late to this, so first of all congratulations on your engagement Smile.

Have you had this problem before?
Are you usually constipated/need help to go?

See your GP - it sounds like you may need to keep going with something like Picolax or Moviprep +/- enemas to get you going in the short term, but long-term I think you need to be investigated as an outpatient. Have you even had a colonoscopy? Ultrasound scanning does not really show hollow organs like the bowel v well.

You may have Slow Transit Constipation?

ILoveGlyfada · 26/12/2013 21:35

Awwww congratulations on your engagement!
Hope you feel better soon, are you going back to the gp tomorrow?

Pixiedust1973 · 27/12/2013 11:23

Thanks for the congrats all.:) I have had the start of something happening in the bowel area lol. Had some hidious bitter orange juice at the mother in laws yesterday as well as more pico & ended up running to the toilet a few times. This morning I had something heading more in the direction of normal poo, but still loose. Decided to give the gp a miss & have a lie in instead. Will only get the "nothing we can do over the holidays" spiel again anyway. Am going to see how things go if if necessary see emergency gp otherwise if things continue to move will wait until my scheduled gp appointment on 2nd January & suggest further investigation then. Might look into getting a colonic too. At the moment I have what feels like a very acid tummy & bowel areas. Am hoping it is the melting process continuing. Fingers crossed. Unfortunately I have my dad staying with me now & he's a complete liability so as my partner is at work doing anything else is pretty tricky anyway so I'm glad I avoided the gp. :)

GoingGoingGoth · 27/12/2013 11:27

Oh that is good news (I have never been this interested in someone else's bowel movements)

Congrats on the engagement, and Fx that everything else is eased today.

PacificDingbat · 27/12/2013 11:36

Oh good, sounds like there is something happening.

Get referred for a colonoscopy by a specialist colorectal surgeon - it gives you the effect of colonic irrigation, but with somebody who actually know what they are doing getting a change to look at your bowel and making sure everything is structurally normal.
See the graphic on this link (scroll down a bit) - your rectum is v likely quite distended and putting an irrigation hose up there now will have a higher risk of perforation than in a 'normal' bowel.
