Hysterectomies - it's gotta be done but over here for hand holding part two

Over here for the hand holding.
One in five women in the uk will have to have a hysterectomy at some point in their lives.
Come and join us if you are waiting, pre op, bleery eyed on the ward or recovering afterwards.

OP posts:

See if your friend and your mum can come to you instead. Much less trouble, no lifting, driving, getting kids dressed, organised, etc.

SantasPelvicFloor · 08/01/2014 10:53

I went to a friends just after the op. Lovely friend who fetched me, cooked, checked I wasn't too tired, offered the sofa to sleep on and it was fine. A friend who expected social niceties would have been hard work.

Awful wether here. I'd planned a 4 mile river walk which was ditched due to rain and shortened to a 1-2 mile plod nearby. Home and planning to start a bit of work whilst the weather throws everything at me

Ledkr · 08/01/2014 11:00

I'm very lightheaded today, almost faint. What would that be?

I also had a touch of "Kevin's bowel" last night Hmm very annoying and painful.
I was off to the chemist today but I'm ok one thank goodness.
I'm out to buy prune juice today, I will not be taking any more codeine either.

SantasPelvicFloor · 08/01/2014 11:07

Anaemia possibly.

Someone should go to the chemist for you. You know we were saying your husband should ask work for some understanding in the next two weeks.... It's hard to ask for help isn't it :) But you should. It's just a week...two at most before you are able to do more. This week you should stay in bed or on the sofa, potter, not lift, not drive and rest. No cooking, housework, chores or tasks.

I understand your feelings (I really do!!!). I was going nuts in that first week chomping at the bit and whinging that I wasn't making a fast recovery etc. it will happen and it will happen faster if you rest more.

Ledkr · 08/01/2014 11:27

Sorry yes I'm not going, dh is going to the charity shop and will get prune juice then.
I started taking spatone yesterday, it does feel like anaemia yes, I'm even light headed sat down, I shall have spinach for tea.

AnotherStitchInTime · 08/01/2014 14:47

Try Floradix if you don't like iron tablets Ledkr or Feroglobin both did more for my iron levels than Spatone.

Ledkr · 08/01/2014 15:20

I looked in the net and it seems common to be light headed.
It would be unusual for me to be anaemic as I've been through a lot worse and not been, I have a good iron count normally but I do have low Bp so I'm guessing it was that.
I feel a bit better after a jacket potatoes so maybe blood sugar was low, who knows.

AnotherStitchInTime · 08/01/2014 17:19

You are right that it could be low blood sugar. I was light-headed today after I went to the GP and hadn't eaten much breakfast.

Ledkr · 08/01/2014 17:29

It's mostly gone now but I still feel weird.
Just been to the shop with dh for prune juice and laxatives.
I was on the loo for hours last night, very uncomfortable.

SantasPelvicFloor · 08/01/2014 17:50

I was told the carbon dioxide gas is absorbed into the blood stream and makes you feel rubbish for days

Ledkr · 08/01/2014 18:40

Ah that makes a lot of sense. I've been nauseous too and very sleepy. Im off to bed soon.

SantasPelvicFloor · 08/01/2014 19:43

I suspect you need more rest than you are getting :)

Ledkr · 08/01/2014 20:04

Yes I agree. My ds is coming to stay tomorrow and he is fab with girls.
I will stay in bed all morning then get up for a couple of hours then back to bed.
I've just told dh he needs to take some time of work and he agrees.

Twinkletights · 08/01/2014 20:14

Kevin and kingfisher hope that your return to work is going well and that you are not feeling too worn out.

Welcome ginge and dizzy Smile well done ginge on booking your appointment and try to be as honest as possible with how your symptoms are affecting your everyday life.
Dizzy I totally empathise with how you feel I am only a few years older than you and am having surgery on the 21st Jan. It does feel very daunting.

Ledkr you sound like you have had a terrible time of it and I agree that you should try and rest as much as you can and let others help you. Are you feeling better after your dizzy spell?

Anotherstich hope that you are feeling better too.

Hello to everyone else my mind had gone blank now.

I have now told work that I will be off and have a stack of stuff to clear and handover which I am hoping will keep me distracted and stop me from worrying.

I am finding people's reactions a bit difficult to cope with, did anyone else find this?

Ledkr · 08/01/2014 20:17

twinkle what are you having done exactly?
What reactions are you getting?

I find it weird to have to tell people what I had even though its fairly personal!

Twinkletights · 08/01/2014 20:56

Ledkr I am having a laparoscopic partial hysterectomy with tube removal preserving the ovaries and possible mesh suspension (but hopefully not).

The reactions have been a mixture of shock, sympathy and them feeling genuinely sorry for me. It makes me feel quite emotional and I don't know why. I am usually very private about health stuff but have tried to be more open. Clearly I am not very good at it.

gingeme · 08/01/2014 21:09

I have written everything down twinkle ready for Monday. I was looking through last years diary and was feeling exactly the same this time last year so time to get something done once and for all.
On the subject of telling people Ive only told my Mum and she basicaly said go for it Smile

Ledkr · 08/01/2014 22:19

I think cos mine is for cancer prevention I've got a lot of sympathy from people.
I just knew it had to be done so just let myself be swept along.
I only saw the consultant in mid December so it was all a bit quick.
Tip. Prune juice works well fir constipation but only a little bit!!

dyzzidi · 09/01/2014 21:23

Hi ladies thanks for the welcome. I've got my pre op in the morning then off for a weekend away with dh. It's his birthday and I will be poorly for my birthday so we've taken the opportunity to spend some time together and a friend has kindly offered to have dd.

Hopefully I will know a little bit more tomorrow so will pop back after the weekend to see how you all are!

thekingfisher · 10/01/2014 09:36

Just checking in Smile how is everyone?

Ledkr · 11/01/2014 17:20

H. All, I'm feeling quite a lot better although still sore at times and get weak and lightheaded if I do too much.
Dh is being lovely and took the kids out all day swimming and stuff which was a nice break.
My tummy is still quite swollen, is that normal (never had washboard abs before but it's def still swollen) I've very impressive bruising too.
I've not started on hrt yet but I've had raging pmt for years,my hormones must have decreased to a really good level as I feel the calmest and most balanced than I have for years, just hope hrt can keep me at the same levels (for all mankinds sake)
Hope you are all having lovely weekends.
I had a waitrose delivery with free champagne which we intend to drink tonight.
