it's dd AGAIN. 11.

she had this two yrs ago, i know because i was searching threads and found my thread about it Blush

he's given amoxicillin, as i said this had happened before and we'd had to go back after 3 days to get some anyhow.

no itching, hurts where the wee comes out, labia sting a bit too. no discharge.

i bloody give up. also have a meeting with the attendence officer today at school---oh the irony. (glum pissed off ill emote)

Strange I would try bathing the area regularly in warm salt water and maybe a layer of Vaseline or nappy rash cream to protect it. See if it is external problem rather than waterworks. My mum always recommends thyme tea for infections and you could try adding some to the bathing water if she wont drink it but not too bad sweetened with honey, cranberry juice just in case it is water infection that somehow got missed won't do any harm also. Hope you find out what it is this time.

SimLondon · 03/12/2013 11:59

sometimes it takes a couple of days for an infection to show up in the urine test

revivingshower · 03/12/2013 12:02

Poor tooth another tip from mum is to liberally apply ambesol liquid (usually used for mouth ulcers)to the sore tooth it soaks in and is antiseptic. Until you can get to dentist. You could try the thyme tea too to fight any infection.

piratecat · 03/12/2013 12:05

hello, thankyou lovelies. just a bit 'tense' shall we say.

the tips are great. i had to persuade him with the antibiotics, i just remember it last time not going.

i have dentist on thursday. xxxx

My mum is good with these little health tips! Hope something helps.

piratecat · 03/12/2013 20:55

hmm, amoxicillin is not working yet, it's got worse.

do i go back to my actual gp first thing, as googling is saying another antibiotic is better for this.

i guess see how it is in the morning, gonna be a long night, she's in so much pain weeing. x

OP posts:
Littlefish · 03/12/2013 21:11

Are you doing all the usual things like making sure she's drinking lots or either cranberry juice or orange barley water?

revivingshower · 03/12/2013 21:17

Have you tried after baby sore parts tip of sitting in a bowl of warm water while weeing?

ServicePlease · 03/12/2013 21:19

DD gets this and it is usually an inflamed labia. If she holds some wet loo paper against it she can normally wee without it stinging too much. I usually then put some sudacrem or metanium on it and it is better within 12 hrs

Indith · 03/12/2013 21:29

tell me too fuck of If you like but is it possible she had just scratched herself and made herself sore so it stings when she goes for a wee? If she is starting to get to know her body etc then it would be easy to do.

Alternatively my dd just had thread worms and itched lots while asleep at night and made herself sore, complained for a few days it was sore to wee till we nucked the worms and she stopped scratching.

piratecat · 03/12/2013 21:41

hiya, she hasn't scratched herself, i did ask earlier on if she had. We gave her a shower of plain water last night, and this morning. This afternoon she sat in a bath with bicarb salt on it.

Having googled, cranberry isn't advised when you are having an attack, rather as a preventative. Googling throws up so much, one thing being the cystitis can sometimes only respond to one antibiotic better than another.

I searched on here, and three of the threads were me over the yrs, about dd. 2008, 2010, 2011. so every couple yrs. anyhow, all i can do i think is see how she is in the morning. xx

OP posts:
piratecat · 03/12/2013 21:43

serviceplease, dd's labia do look a bit red yes. as for applying cream, i am not too sure what would be best. she says her wee hole hurts when she pees.

OP posts:
piratecat · 03/12/2013 21:44

Indith, interesting about the worms. did she have an itchy bum? dd says no itching feeling at all.

OP posts:
piratecat · 03/12/2013 21:47

sorry, so tired. yes she has had lots loads of water. thankyou.

OP posts:
Indith · 03/12/2013 21:47

dd didn't actually complain about feeling itchy, I only realised when ds1 did so I went hunting for them and she was crawling. She is only little though, is have thought your dd would be a little more forthcoming!

strange she keeps getting the danger problem coming back, poor girl.

piratecat · 03/12/2013 22:04

yes i guess it's not too often, but seems susceptible to it. She had a sick bug last week, so i thought she might be run down from that. clutching at bendy straws here.

OP posts:
ServicePlease · 03/12/2013 22:11

Yes, that's exactly what happens with DD. We soak a load of loo roll in cold water and she holds it against the sore bit as she wees. A bit messy but stops the agonising screams.

Creams - you can't go wrong with a nappy cream such as sudacrem or metanium as they are designed to go on intimate bits

BlameItOnTheBogey · 04/12/2013 01:04

OP - a bit of a random thought here but this thread was posted some time ago now and really struck a chord with me. It's made me change the kind of products I used and has made a difference. Worth a try?

piratecat · 04/12/2013 08:44

hi thanks for that link.

she's only had it a few times in the last 4 years, i don't use conditioner and have used the detergent (non blue) i am using for about 6 months now. It's the purple DAZ one, smells lovely. I don't use oodles tho.
Yet it would be worth having a look at other milder ones just in case.

She is still in alot of pain, i am going back to gp as her records show (nice bloke on reception) that she responded very well to trimethoprim last time.
Would have rathered she had that from the off, but i would have expected some + response by now, as if anything it's worse.

My dd had urinary problems until we cut out blackcurrant drinks. Never had a problem since.

She also talks of 'stingy wee' when she's a bit dehydrated and her wee is indeed a darker yellow, but you say your dd is getting plenty of water.

SwimmingMom · 04/12/2013 20:13

DD (6) scratches when asleep & ends up with red & angry labia. She doesn't even know she's done it. So I've changed her knickers to very thin cotton & don't put her any pyjamas, just 'dress' style nightwear to keep the bottom cool. Also I keep a check on her nails. This has helped enormously! For the inflammation, aloe vera gel works quickly - in a single night.

She does get UTIs often which need antibiotics - but that's a different problem owing to less water consumption.

SwimmingMom · 04/12/2013 20:15

Trimethoprim is the best for UTI. DD had it last week, works quickly.

piratecat · 04/12/2013 21:34

yes she drinks so alot of water, has always loved it.

SwimmingMom, how long did she have off school? or how long till it was much improved?

I got trimethoprim today. Doc asked had doc yesterday sent off a wee sample, i said no so he has sent one off. It was deffo cloudy. Yesterday it was clear.
I am surprised at doc yesterday, he's a very well regarded doc, and i thought he'd send one off. Nevermind.

She's had two doses now, felt slightly better in the afternoon, but this evening, as she'd had a wee has been in alot of pain.

Hopefully the anti's will kick in soon.

She usually has mild ones which don't hurt much, but cause a mild fever (which when not accompanied by cough/cold/flu arouses suspicion) - so I take her to the GP to have her checked. Sometimes even when the urine looks ok, the dipstick shows mild infection.

So I can't really say how long before she gets better, also no time off school for this reason so far.

But I can tell you from my own experience (as I get very painful UTI when I do) that the AB work very fast and within 12 hours there will be good relief & by 24 hours complete relief. So no to worry, she should be ok by tomorrow morning, though the AB will run its course.

A mild painkiller like ibuprofen is often suggested to take the edge off until the AB kicks in. You could try it.

Hope the night is calm & she has a good sleep.
