Morning All!

We're nearly in December, so let's get the festivities started.

gigs - hope you are feeling better soon

tiny - good luck with the tax

really - you are amazing for keeping working!

goodness - I hope you get some answers soon

to everyone else

well this is me a third of the way through rads already :) It it definitely much much easier than chemo so far. Every day another one is ticked off the list. :) My skin felt ever so slightly tender after today's session so I slapped the aloe vera on when I got home and loads of doublebase and it seems to have calmed down again.

GoodnessKnows · 09/01/2014 21:44

Tiny, I feel like a big whinger.
(Imagines muttering a of 'Yes!' In the distance)
For four weeks I've gone from thinking all was normal and having a life free of pain - to the realisation (not quite absorbed) that my life, as I know it, is about to be turned upside down.
And soon.
I'd just like to know how soon and by how much
Soon
Have had enough

foofooyeah · 10/01/2014 06:59

Today my life can be described in three words: itchy itchy itchy

Got the itchiness scalp, driving me nuts. Got to see GP this morning anyway so will mention, but has anyone else had this?

goodness your not a wringer! Your in that horrible place where you don't have a clear cut plan. It's frustrating and upsetting especially when things keep changing. Just hold on. It will all get resolved eventually.

betsy what is double base? You enticing it and I was wondering what it was .... And if I need it Smile

I may try and go to the gym today, been too tired this week, plus huge cyst thing on back means wearing bra too painful, but feeling a lot better today.

malteserzz · 10/01/2014 07:11

Foo foo I hate to say but my scalp was itchy and felt tight before my hair came out Hmm can't be that for you after all this time though surely. Have you changed your shampoo ? Oh have you checked for nits ?!

Betsy glad the rads is not too bad

New dishwasher coming today that's about it for the excitement of the day!

reallyreallyworried · 10/01/2014 07:20

Morning all.

Friday morning and I don't have to get up for work!! Feels VERY odd! I'm writing this while still snuggled up under my duvet Smile I have the joys of another visit to the hospital to have my PICC line flushed. Always entertaining!! Hoping to get the same nurse as last time, as she managed to position things so that it has been comfortable for a whole week!

Then I'm meeting up with my mum and dad Grin nice coffee/hot choc together. Maybe a walk round the shops. Then just a nice weekend with them. They'll want to spoil me, lots of early birthday treats!

goodness you're allowed to moan, and feel scared, angry, frustrated etc etc. We have all been through the same feelings. We all have good and bad days, that's what this site is for. Sharing your feelings with people who can empathise!

I still think, however hard it is, you need to TRY and put this to the back of your mind for a bit. If you aren't going to hear anything for 2weeks is there any point in worrying during that time? You know they haven't forgotten you, and as soon as he is back you will be given a date. You'll have enough sleepless nights once you get your date (although part of you will be relieved). So try and make the most of the next few weeks. (((((((Big Hug)))))))

gigs hope you are feeling a bit better today xx

malt how are you doing? How's your arm after the node clearance? Healing well I hope. Are you due radiotherapy next? Sorry if you have already said on here, but I don't remember reading what your next step was. Xx

Betsy a third of the way through already Smile Must admit I think the plus to radiotherapy is the fact that it is just a block of weeks, so although probably not much fun. You can see an end in site very quickly. I trust you have something nice planned for an end of radio treat Grin any excuse to have a treat!! Xxx

Hi to everyone else. Hope you are all doing okay. Oh and to the few of you mums who use cbeebies to babysit, as far as I know, and I speak as a professional nanny. A child has never been harmed physically or mentally through watching the tv Grin BUT the parents watching cbeebies, now that's risky!!!!!! Grin

foofooyeah · 10/01/2014 07:36

malt I was a bit worried about my hair falling out. On my last chemo I couldn't keep the cold cap on as was making me so sick. Oh well we shall see. I have got a new shampoo so shall get a bottle if the one I was using.

malteserzz · 10/01/2014 10:05

Foo foo I hope it's not that :( more likely your shampoo I'm sure

Really enjoy your weekend with your parents, yes radiotherapy is next for me I've got an appointment on Wednesday think it's just to find out more about it. I'm healing ok thanks still a bit swollen under my arm but my arm itself is fine now no pain and full movement, keep having to remember I'm not supposed to carry heavy things !

GoodnessKnows · 10/01/2014 10:06

Thank you, Really and Foof.
I HAVE A DATE.
28th January.
Other secretary told me...
They'd had the date down but hadn't told me. Still awaiting MRI and CAT results.

malteserzz · 10/01/2014 10:17

That's great goodness a step in the right direction and at least you can plan a bit now , do you feel a bit better now you know the date ?

reallyreallyworried · 10/01/2014 10:17

goodness that's great news. Now go do something nice! Enjoy a few treats!!

malt glad you're healing well. I know what you mean about not lifting heavy things, my arm feels as good as the other arm, so I sort of forget. But I am being good, as the last thing I want is Lymphodema to deal with!! I have appt with Radiotherapy doc on Tues (my birthday treat!!!!) which seemed a bit soon, as I am only halfway through Chemo. But apparently they like to get you in the system, so that there isn't a delay between end of Chemo and start of radiotherapy! Makes sense I suppose! Xx

malteserzz · 10/01/2014 10:19

They sound more on the ball than my lot really Grin though I've had to recover from surgery 1st before my rads. Have you got anything planned for your birthday ? X

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 10/01/2014 10:22

My sister just got back the results of her genetic testing. Despite 4 of 7 first cousins getting breast cancer in their late 30s/40s, she is not BRCA.

They are not going to do genetic testing on me now, unless my medical team make a strong case for it. As I'm unlikely to have it either.

Of the 4 of us, 2 were 36 when we had our first child, and one doesn't have children. Genetic Councillor advised that puts us 3 in higher risk category.

Both my sister and I were prepared to hear that we were BRCA, based on the genetic history. We had already decided if we were, we'd have Ovaries removed, and double mx. No need for that now, especially not the Ovaries as there is no history of Ovarian cancer in our family. My medical team are unlikely to recommend a mx, I think, as I just about met the criteria for chemo. My sister had two tumors, one was particularly aggressive. We have to wait and see what her medical team advises.

Nice to get some good news!

kitkat1967 · 10/01/2014 10:58

that's great news mom - it must be a big weight lifted off your mind.

And good news that you have your op date goodness, hopefully you'll get your scan results soon as well.

My Op is 1 week today - yippee Grin.

weebarra · 10/01/2014 11:41

mom, that's wonderful news. My sis, who is 30 was tested last week as I am BRCA2. My cousin was negative and there's nothing going back until my dad's mum. I really hope she doesn't have it, she has no kids and significant mental health issues so would be terribly hard for her.
Goodness so glad you have a date, easy to say, but try to relax as there's nothing you can do between now and then!

BetsyBoop · 10/01/2014 12:07

another rads ticked off :)

woohoo for goodness having a date at last!:)

foofoo - doublebase is just another emollient - most folks use aqueous cream and are fine with it. I've had mild eczema since childhood - usually kept in control by keeping my skin well moisturised. A few years back my Dr recommended swapping to doublebase as my skin had started having a reaction to some brands of aqueous cream (all aqueous creams are not equal, some have different additives in) - doublebase has proved to be soooo perfect for my skin, it became my new best friend Grin - sorry - that's why I rave on and on about it Grin

BetsyBoop · 10/01/2014 12:09

and mom brilliant news :)

my memory is so appalling since chemo I can't even keep three things I meant to post in my head any more

Handbagsatdawn · 10/01/2014 14:35

Well done Betsy for getting through the rads. Should the rest of us be getting some double bass too (is that the brand name), rather than the aqueous cream they advise?

I have my rads CT scan on 6th Feb, then rads from 18th Feb for 5 weeks. Am so bored of chemo now, will make a nice change to move onto something else Hmm.

Glad you have a date at last Goodness. Hang in there, we know what you're going through.

I have teenage-like facial acne from hell at the moment, which is a right bugger. The hair I can hide with a wig/hat, but I can't very well stick a bag over my head to do the school run (or maybe I should).

Handbagsatdawn · 10/01/2014 14:36

Double bass, not bass. Der.

Handbagsatdawn · 10/01/2014 14:37

Ah!! Base!

BetsyBoop · 10/01/2014 14:52

handbags - most centres seem to recommend aqueous cream and I'm sure that is absolutely fine for almost everyone. I just have very pernickerty skin and managed to get a special dispensation to use doublebase as I know it works for me - I would just go with whatever they recommend unless you know you could have skin problems with what they are suggesting.

I doublebase (after 40 years of pernickerty skin it was soooo good to find something that suits me perfectly, my skin has never been better :) )

BetsyBoop · 10/01/2014 22:32

Well that killed the thread didn't it! Grin

malteserzz · 10/01/2014 23:06

Thread killer Betsy !
Hope everyone's ok night night x

GoodnessKnows · 10/01/2014 23:51

Thanks for having out up with me so far. Now that I have a date, I feel I've stopped splashing around like a drowning cat. I'm holding onto something... a date. I have a focus.
Feel like I should be off Zumba dancing n fake skiing but am fling to the cinema this weekend. Going to make the most of ... (wait for it)... sitting down. Apparently, this is going to be something I'll find rather tricky for a while afterwards!
I'm good at it. Well practiced Wink
What's all the talk of Double Bass/ base? Fill me in.
I use Epaderm Ointment on my super-duper dry skin. That was a revelation and the cheapest moisturiser known to man I get it from the doc.

foofooyeah · 11/01/2014 07:06

Double base

This medicine helps treat and prevent dry, rough, and itchy skin associated with conditions such as dermatitis and eczema. It contains liquid paraffin and isopropyl myristate which are emollients that rehydrate dry skin by helping it retain moisture. They replace skin oils and form a waterproof barrier on the skin surface preventing water loss. This moisturises and softens the skin underneath and prevents it from drying out.

double bass

The double bass, or upright bass, also called the string bass, bass fiddle, bass violin, doghouse bass, contrabass, bass viol, stand-up bass, bull fiddle or simply bass, is the largest and lowest-pitched bowed string instrument of the viol family in the modern symphony orchestra

GoodnessKnows · 11/01/2014 07:27

Foof, now I knows doubles ;)
Sounds amazing
