Morning All!

We're nearly in December, so let's get the festivities started.

Hello All

Had surgery to remove lumps from each breast three weeks ago and received results from my consultant yesterday and felt the need to share.

Left side - Grade 2 DCIS, 2 lymph nodes removed which were clear, HER2 Negative.

Right side - Grade 3 DCIS, 4 lymph nodes removed which were also clear, HER2 Positive.

So it appears that I qualify for Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, Tamoxifen and Herceptin.

However I also have to have further surgery on Thursday to remove more tissue in order to get a better margin.

It has been a difficult time but for some reason after meeting with the consultant yesterday I do feel reassured now that I can get through this!

Although I have not posted for a while I have still managed to drop in and keep up with you all in the last few weeks and found your experiences helpful. Thanks

malteserzz · 04/01/2014 19:54

Mummywheel the fact that it's DCIS and the clear nodes is good news Smile shame about more surgery though

Kitkat mine will struggle to get up for school too, they oh back on Tuesday

Love to all hope you're having a good weekend

Tiny100 · 04/01/2014 21:57

See that Jennifer Saunders is on Jonathan Ross tonight. Wonder if she is happy to wear her cancer badge to promote whatever she is trying to flog now. Right, off to watch!

Fair play to her, she didn't mention it.

Both DCs still wide awake - have given in to their whinging and let them read. The plan is to rudely awaken them tomorrow and hopefully that plus rugby training for DS will lead to a more successful bedtime. If not I have little hope of getting them out of the door for 7:10 on Tuesday.

GoodnessKnows · 05/01/2014 00:03

Malt and Tiny, thx for understanding. Hope everyone gets a restful sleep tonight and has a sicky-free weekend.

trice · 05/01/2014 00:37

Hello plumppartridge, I am sorry to hear about your mum. I recommend that you ask her gp for a macmillannurse. They will be able to help her deal with her situation. They are great for pain management, mobility aids, form filling, advocacy etc.

I have secondaries in my lung which have responded well to chemotherapy so far (10 months since diagnosis). I hope your dm responds well to her treatment.

I went roller Skating with Dd and dniece earlier. We had fun

GoodnessKnows · 05/01/2014 07:36

Mummywheel, I hope that the surgery on Thursday goes smoothly and doesn't leave you in any discomfort. I am so glad to hear that the consultant has helped to give you the confidence to face this without too much anxiety (I think I understood that).
Plump, I really hope that your mum's results are better than expected and that effective treatment will be presented to her. Must be very stressful for you all. I can relate.

coorong · 05/01/2014 11:19

Greetings all and happy new year!
Trice I can only recall you posting about mobility problems last year - and now you're roller skating - fantastic - long may it continue
Malt, Gigs et al you all seem to have had a great christmas
am just ducking in an out at the moment, managing slightly odd side effects of tamoxifen - hot flushes at night and being slightly hairier than normal Confused
will probably check back in when I have my follow up in February.
love to all

foofooyeah · 05/01/2014 11:57

Hi everyone, not much to report.
kitkat I am having issues with youngest being up too late. Meant to get him up early today but was enjoying the peace and quiet too much. He isn't back until Wed so got a couple more days yet.

Tiny100 · 05/01/2014 15:35

I hope you are Amber. Good news that Mr AL's operation seems to have gone well - hope he continues to make a good recovery.

Well done on roller skating Trice, if it were me, I would have ended up in A&E.

Goodness - How are you sleeping? Did you try and of Ruby's suggestions, and more importantly did they work for you? I need some sleep!

KitKat - I meant to say that I went into the Doctor's surgery on Friday get an appointment for this coming week. I took my hat off and went in bald and when I asked for an appointment I was asked if I wanted to see the Doctor straight away! Normally I wouldn't have been offered an appointment for a couple of weeks, so this trick definitly works!

Waves to everyone else.

Left feeling a bit blah after consultant's appointment yesterday. I hadn't been back to that particular hospital since dx and as soon as I got there I felt anxious and tears started welling in my eyes - maybe this put a shadow over the appointment? I was also dissapointed because the consultant could still feel the tumour and my enlarged lymph node(s) - could be several clumped together - despite the shrinkage. I just wanted him to tell me it is all gone. Sad

Tiny, so disappointing. Of course you did. What an enotional day for you. How you feeling now? Down? What is the next step for you?
I did try sine of those wonderful suggestions re sleep. Sleeping much better as a result. Bought the pillow speakers. Want the headband ones now but bit pricey having just bought the others and not concocted I'd keep them on ;)
Meditation cd wasn't quite my thing but have used it and found it useful. Have dig out old one I used to use though. Loving that old buddy. Prob would help not to keep tv, iPhone and ipad in bedroom. But hey, I'm human and like metal distractions vs meditation (sorting with the thoughts). V anxious about next MRI (tomorrow). Dreading The Wait for results. Didn't expert the first result so have a rely deep fear that there are others lurking. It's a full body. Telling myself this is just routine and to be positive. Not feelin' it!

weebarra · 05/01/2014 19:11

Amber did you say you went abroaf during your treatment? DH and I fancy going to rome between ending chemo and my mx but DH is freaked out by travel insurance. Any recommendations?

GoodnessKnows · 05/01/2014 19:22

Is it normal to feel angry and have mood swings with all this waiting. I just feel so angry about having more tests and more waiting.

Tiny100 · 05/01/2014 20:29

I am okay now thanks Goodness - had a row with OH earlier and feel much better! (We are all made up now, so all is good.) Do you really not wake up your OH with those pillow speakers? Will take a look at that and the meditation CD. Good luck with your MRI scan tomorrow - I will be thinking of you. BTW, I always ask the technician which Doctor is going to be looking at the scan, when they looking at them and when the report will be available, so I immediately get an idea of when I can get hold of the results - not that I am impatient at all!

Wee - We are thinking of a holiday between chemo and surgery too. Was a little worried about how exhausted I would feel, haven't even thought about travel insurance - eek. Rome is a fantastic city to visit, so much to see. You will have a fantastic time.

OP posts:
Tiny100 · 05/01/2014 20:36

Wee - Another cancer forum suggests Eurotunnel for travel insurance. Maybe worth a try?

GoodnessKnows · 05/01/2014 21:28

Tiny, the prob I have with the Roberts ones I've bought is that they're small (one spherical, almost-flat oval shaped speaker). If positioned too closely, you'll feel them and they're (it's) hard and not comfy under your face. If further away, you'll need to turn them up and that prob would wake your OH.

Lilymaid · 05/01/2014 21:37

The Macmillan website has a list of insurers. You should be able to find a company that will offer cover excepting anything relating to your cancer. I've just used the list to get a quote for DS2 who has leukaemia and needs insurance for his ski trip.
Also thinking of a trip to Rome post any rads but have to wait another month before I see Oncologist to find out whether and when.

GoodnessKnows · 05/01/2014 21:37

These cheap ones have reviews as good as the £12 ones I bought: Soundlab Pillow Speaker amazon.co.uk/dp/B002GJ0ES6

I'm going to buy these ones now and I'll let you know what these are like:
v.4 - Medium Headphones (Lavender) amazon.co.uk/dp/B0046H8ZFU

kitkat1967 · 05/01/2014 23:46

Grr.. Wrote long post and lost it so I'll just say hi to everyone and good luck for scans and surgeries this week.

revivingsnowshower · 06/01/2014 00:58

goodness lost your thread, how are you doing. Hope you are ok. Good luck for next week hope you get some news.

GoodnessKnows · 06/01/2014 04:34

Thank you Reviving. Me too. Hoping for results of today's MRI & CT to come through as clear. Hoping. Then hoping to get this show on the road (but not-so-secretly scared to) and have op that's been talked about since day I was told about tumour.
Then more waiting as I wait for histology to, please gd, coke back clear on that.

malteserzz · 06/01/2014 08:32

Morning all
I'm liking the holiday talk, my specialist subject ! Am tentatively thinking of going away at Easter but daren't get my hopes up after 2 cancelled holidays last year

Goodness good luck for your scans today

Trice I'm so impressed with the roller skating !

Kitkat I hate it when that happens !

Tiny I hope you're ok today

Bad memory sorry so I'll just say love to everyone else. Teacher day here today so my FB has people moaning about going back to work they don't know how lucky they are

Tiny100 · 06/01/2014 08:54

Good Luck to everyone dragging their DC out of bed this morning. I have the opposite problem, trying to keep my LO in bed!

Goodness - Best wishes for today, hope it all goes smoothly and they can give you an idea of when you can finally get your results.

Lily - I wasn't aware that your son had cancer as well, so sorry to hear that. Hope he enjoys his sking holiday.

Morning to Malt, yes feeling better today thanks. Where are you thinking of going on holiday to? Would it be nosey to ask why your holidays were cancelled? Whilst it is great to have something to look forwards to, I can't be bothered doing all the planning if it is likely to get cancelled.

OP posts:
kitkat1967 · 06/01/2014 09:14

tiny - both malt and I had to cancel our hols to have chemo. Mine was my summer hols but I think malt had hols booked for the summer and Oct half term. Anyway i'm already booked up for Easter so am looking forward to some sunshine!! (Am hoping new boobs will look good in a bikini Grin.
Also those of you wanting a holiday between chemo and surgery be aware that you will probably be very tired still. I am still finding walking/standing for any length of time wipes me out. Tax has much more long lasting SEs than FEC did.

Well both DC were up by about 8 this morning (still not dressed though) so we are making progress in the right direction!!
