Uterine Polyp the size of my thumb...are they really going to just "snip" it out without any sort of anaesthetic????

brief history; has a teeny tiny polyp removed via a hysteroscopy in February. Very fleshy and nurse unsure she had got all of it due to amount of bleeding.

six months on I started bleeding and three months later I haven't stopped. I knew there was something not quite right when I investigated myself, and gynae confirmed yesterday that polyp has grown back, but is nbow godzilla in proportion and is the size of my thumb and growing down through my cervix into my vag Shock

She has referred me back to hysteroscopy.

Now....my previous experience was very, very unpleasant indeed. No anaesthetic, and much discomfort followed by pain, cramping and bleeding, and the last one was teeny, teeny tiny (< 2mm at the base). This time I have an actual finger of angry, bleeding tissue sticking out of me; surely they can't just snip it off?

Can I demand an anaesthetic? I really do not want to be conscious to witness the removal of this monster!

thanks peeps Smile

Good luck for Friday babyjane Smile

I couldn't have afforded the time off work for a GA when I think about it; I only get paid SSP!

Early night now and hopefully I'll be feeling OK tomorrow. The nurse said I'll be fine to work tomorrow evening.

And yes, Dr Google is the most pessimistic HCP in the world; his prognosis is never good Grin

I had my hyster today with no la and I've not even had a baby.

My polyps taking up the whole uterus. Ga for me.

LineRunner · 27/11/2013 20:45

Hi Fluffy. How you feeling?

When do they want you back in?

I have a MRI scan coming up, and a consultation two days before Christmas where they may or may not do another poke about.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/11/2013 21:02

Tbh I feel fine. Which is good because dh is being sick so I have to disinfect everywhere.

I must have a compliant cervix!

LineRunner · 27/11/2013 21:09

Just take it easy.

LackaDAISYcal · 27/11/2013 23:12

Glad it went OK fluffy; take it easy though. when are you booked in for the GA? And you have sort of answered a question for me; I was wondering whether these things are worse or better if you have/haven't had children. I guess it's just random. Though my consultant did say that if you are overweight you produce more oestrogen and that oestrogen is a factor in the formation of polyps.

I'm in agony Sad I was awake half the night with referred pain in my shoulders and felt full of trapped wind. Also had bad cramps. Sneezed this morning when dropping the kids off in the car and nearly crashed as it hurt like hell. Been asleep half the day, and though I feel more human now, am still very crampy.

I'm assuming that this is probably my cervix shrinking back to where it should be, as it was dilated to about 2cm by the polyp . Mainlining diclofenac and co-codamol to little effect and wondering if I'll be OK in the morning. Had to call in sick to work today, but really can't afford another day off.

On the upside, my belly bloating has subsided a bit. I had my belt on the usual setting and noticed that my trousers were falling down as I walked from the car to the school this morning and I've been able to cinch in a notch on my belt!!

I've got a hx of cervical polyps and pcos so that's why I probably have mine. Having it removed in Jan.

You sound like you really suffered having your hystoscopy Sad

babyjane67 · 28/11/2013 07:32

Hope youre feeling better this morning daisy
Thanks for the good luck!
Will let you know how it goes
I asked the dr at assessment yest ifi would need pain killlers after&he said no just paracetamol or co codamol maybe
its not a big op&we're not taking a biopsy(though gyny said if they find more polyps or anything else going on thentheyll remove it)
He made it out to be not a big deal!

LackaDAISYcal · 28/11/2013 11:36

Take some before hand babyjane. About an hour to give them time to work. It definitely helped compared to the last one. This was so much more hurty afterwards though.

Feeling a little bit better today but have a stitch like pain on the right hand side and a general dull ache all over. I hope I haven't gotten an infection. I don't think I've got a temperature, but I felt weird and clammy at work this morning. My client's houses are usually boiling so it could just have been that ion top of feeling a bit off colour still.

Sorry fluffy, what are you having removed? Just the polyps, or are you having a hysterectomy?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 28/11/2013 13:52

Just the polyp. Have you got a thermometer?

LackaDAISYcal · 28/11/2013 14:06

I have somewhere but can't find the damn thing.

Feeling a little bit better, so I think it's wearing off.

So prob wint get op done til new yr now!

Bonsoir · 01/12/2013 08:12

I'm another person who avoids GA and sedation where I can: I have had varicose vein removal without GA (two and half hour op) and had laser eye surgery without so much as a Xanax. I had no pain management at all when I gave birth. Whenever I have the choice, I go for full consciousness.

I entirely understand however that this is personal choice. If being operated upon without anaesthetic is going to be remotely traumatic for you, insist.

GoodKingWencesLACK · 02/12/2013 16:13

Apart from a stinking cold, all is well! Bleeding practically non existent and things seem to have setteld down really quickly. Long may it continue!

That's a shame you have to suffer for longer babyjane, and I hope you get the cardiology thing sorted soon and there is nothing wrong!

Wow Bonsior, that's impressive. I am the world's biggest woose it would seem!

surewoman · 03/12/2013 20:32

Hi there, quick question - do they always remove polyps in the uterus? Conultant thinks I might have one, but the scan didn't show things very clearly, other than a lump and a thick wall. He wouldn't be thinking of snipping it out (if that's what it is) when I see him next Thursday without warning me, would he?

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/12/2013 20:51

Not if its too big, mines coming out under ga.

I had a cervical one out with no anaesthesia, never felt a thing.

GW297 · 03/12/2013 21:45

I think they always remove polyps.

surewoman · 03/12/2013 22:36

Thanks x

GoodKingWencesLACK · 04/12/2013 01:54

Hi surewoman Smile It would be done during a hysteroscopy or under GA if too big (though mine was mahoosive, so not sure how big too big would be iyswim) or if there are many.

If you're booked in for a hysteroscopy, there's every chance they'll remove it.

Though tbh the polyp removal was nothing; I didn't even realise he'd done it until he was waving a specimen jar under my nose asking "Do you want to see it?! (errr...NO Hmm ). The hysteroscopy itself was the ouchy horrible bit

GW297 · 04/12/2013 21:46

The asked me if I wanted to look at mine on the screen - I declined! Sometimes they don't know how big they are until they do the hysteroscopy though unhelpfully.

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/12/2013 21:53

Mine looked like a slab of ox tongue off the deli.

surewoman · 05/12/2013 18:24

Yuk!!! What were your symptoms, bye the way?? (if you don't mind me asking? Not that I'm worried or anything .....!)

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/12/2013 18:25

Mid-cycle bleeding.

GW297 · 05/12/2013 19:27

Snap - mid cycle bleeding here too!
