Weird rashes and sudden temperature and we are meant to be going on holiday on Sunday.....

DD developed what I thought was a heat rash this afternoon all over her back. It was red and hot to the touch. I took her to the pharmacist who thought it was a heat rash too and a bit of eczema (she has had a few eczemaish patches recently)

Tonight and last night she also had temporary hivey type rashes on her face, to the side of her eye and tonight there again and on one side of her forehead. They went last night so I assume this is some heaty/allergic rash. Her back is very hot to the touch and red and she has a blanching rash over her stomach too but less severe than her back.

Another thought was that maybe she just overheated today. She has never had a problem with heat before and has been in been much hotter temps than today.

I was about to read her stories and she suddenly said she didn't want any so I took her temp and it is 101.7

Any ideas? I guess it is just a virus with a viral rash but not sure. She has had a runny nose for a few days. What does measles look like? (she is immunised)

the classic sign of measles is white spots inside the cheeks..are they called koplics spots or something?

zippitippitoes · 30/06/2006 19:54

but they don't last long, also sore red eyes, runny nose and cough and a rash which gets darker before it goes

Rhubarb · 30/06/2006 19:55

I would guess at a virual rash too. Get some calpol and ibuprofen at the ready. Take her back to the docs tomorrow just to be on the safe side. Keep her on the meds and water and you can still go away on Sunday, kids recover quite quickly don't they?

Have a great time!

foxinsocks · 30/06/2006 19:56

think measles normally starts on the face?

it does sound virusy

have you looked at her throat (shine a torch in her mouth if you can't get a good look)? awful lot of kids off with throat infections at the mo

zippitippitoes · 30/06/2006 19:57

I hope she is better soon..these rashes and temps etc are always a worry

CountessDracula · 30/06/2006 19:59

She is scratching her back like mad

Can an allergy cause a temperature? It has come down a lot 100.1 and the calpol has not had time to work. I wonder if she just suddenly overheated due to an allergy - her back is red hot and bright red, poor thing.

Have peered in cheeks and they look normal. She is in good spirits.

Oh really Fisil? Has ds2 got similar?

But she wasn't here, it couldn't have survived on her duvet surely, not for 6 hours! Also she had the facial rash and a bit on her back when she got back last night

have you changed washing powder/fabric softener or been swimming?

does her eczema look infected?

she could be very overheated - do you think she drank enough at school/pre-school?

CountessDracula · 30/06/2006 20:01

She has been with me all day and has had loads to drink. I will give her some more her wee did look quite concentrated.

fisil · 30/06/2006 20:02

Well, ds2 was a bit funny yesterday - just very clingy, pink cheeks and a slight temp. But at yours he wasn't - it was the best I'd seen him all day.

I just feel guilt cos he'd slept on your dd's bed and maybe he left some germs behind for her to pick up!

CountessDracula · 30/06/2006 20:03

I did wonder if her tshirt she was wearing today had managed to get into our washing (we use a diff. powder as I am allergic to everything except that )

Is he ok today fisil?

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 30/06/2006 20:03

did she have red cheeks - could be slapped cheek or something of the sort. Poor ds went bright red on his tummy and back with that!

fisil · 30/06/2006 20:04

Oh, but I had to put steroid cream on ds1 tonight, and give him pirotin during the day - i think it has just been a very high pollen day. He has never had hayfever before and has no allergies (it was ds2's pirotin), and the steroid cream we have because we thought he was allergic to sun cream, but now I just think he gets a rash in hot weather.

Yes, he was fine today.

jangly · 30/06/2006 20:06

Sounds like a virus to me.Think it will probably turn into a cold and then clear up quite quickly at this time of the year.

CountessDracula · 30/06/2006 20:08

oh god I have just remembered

I put some Vaseline Intensive Care lotion (dermacare) on her this am as she was rather itchy looking I guess it could be a reaction.

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 30/06/2006 20:10

hopefully the piriton sort it then

perhaps a nice tepid bath in the morning if her skin is still hot to touch?

CountessDracula · 30/06/2006 20:13

she is lying on her front with a cool flannel on her back now!

Temp right back down

Can an allergy cause a temp?

OP posts:
fisil · 30/06/2006 20:14

yes - ds2 gets very hot with his reactions.

fisil · 30/06/2006 20:14

Although I've never taken his temp - most times it's happened we've been out.

CountessDracula · 30/06/2006 20:16

ok I think/hope it is that

Also my ear thermometer is being odd, I was just putting her down and she said "take my temp one more time" It was 101 in one ear and 98.4 in the other ffs

then took again in silly ear and was 98.9
