HELP - 18 MONTH OLD DD BEING VERY ODD

CountessDracula · 19/02/2004 19:41

Dd came home with her nanny tonight, apparantly had not had much of a sleep in the day (that's not so unusual) and seemed quite tired and grumpy. She had had a bit of a cough/cold for a few days but has otherwise been fine.

After dinner we watched a bit of storymakers and she was very quiet, just sitting there with me which is not like her. Then she started crying and wouldn't stop, not really screaming, just crying. I thought maybe she was teething as she has been grabbing in her mouth a lot, gave her Calgel and some calpol.

She just sat on my lap having a cuddle and crying and crying. I sang to her for about 20 mins and finally she stopped crying and when I looked she was asleep. But it took me ages to wake her up - calling her name and shaking her arm. She seemed very floppy and much much tireder than usual - she normally has stories/bottle etc and is very lively right up to going to bed and has never fallen asleep on me like that and been so hard to wake up

She has no temperature.

Do you think I should ring NHS direct or could it just be the calpol making her sleepy. She has also had 5ml of tixylix cough and cold medicine which can make them sleepy but she has had that the last 2 nights too and has been fine (mind you I gave it to her just before bed the last 2 nights and about 40 mins ago tonight so maybe that's it)

Oh god i hate it when they do things like this.

If I was you I'd ring and get her seen to just in case.

CountessDracula · 19/02/2004 19:42

Oh forgot to mention she has not had calpol for a long time, maybe 3 months, so could it just be a reaction to that?

It sounds to me like the Calpol taking effect, but what is there to lose by ringing NHS direct? I've always found them very helpful.

CountessDracula · 19/02/2004 19:43

but no rash, no temperature....

Will call them anyway

Yes call them just in case but brace yourself, as you probably know they are a little 'slow', so why not go straight through to your out of hours doctor?

musica · 19/02/2004 19:48

It could be an ear infection - that is just what ds was like when he did, he went floppy just like that. I think the pain can wear them out.

Hope she's feeling better soon.

CountessDracula · 19/02/2004 19:49

Great, when I said she was floppy they said call an ambulance (without asking if she had been given drugs) !!!!

Now are calling back in 5 to 10 mins.

CountessDracula · 19/02/2004 20:09

they made me wake her again and it took a while for her to be fully with it but she did seem more normal. Have put her back to bed but I know I'll be in and out every 10 mins tonight

CountessDracula · 19/02/2004 20:20

Thanks you lot - don't know what I'd do without you (this would be the one evening dh is out for years and his mobile battery is flat. Huh!)

CD, I had a similar scare with dd the weekend before last and posted here too and everyone was wonderful. Dd did have a temperature though and in the end I took her to A&E. With your dd, maybe it was a combination of not much daytime sleep and then the drugs and your singing. (Could you come over here and sing to me too sometime?)

I hope she's ok and you too. Things like this always seem to happen to me too when dp is away or out.

CountessDracula · 19/02/2004 20:32

Thanks - believe me you don't want my singing for long. Ran out of soothing things and ended up singing "Jerusalem" about 10 times as it was the only one that soothed her (am not religious! just like the song)

I do a sort of 'scratch' version of 'hush little baby' that occasionally causes laughter, sometimes tears, but never sleep.

CountessDracula · 19/02/2004 20:44

LOL Evita

Just been in and she is breathing normally and seems very peaceful. Ahhhhhhh

Evita · 19/02/2004 20:55

I'm VERY glad to hear that CD. I hope you both have a peaceful night. xxx

Quick update - dd was fine in the night but woke very early (not like her) and is out of sorts today, keeps chomping on her finger and has a red cheek so it's def teething.

Thanks everyone for your support last night.
