Mouth ulcers - TMI

KatyMac · 02/10/2013 09:30

I have 3 largish mouth ulcers on the side of my tongue (2 visible & 1 further back)

I can't talk or swallow; as it is so painful

I can't even swallow my saliva & I can't spit it out either

I am so, so miserable; the GP would laugh though wouldn't they? The dentist has told me there is nothing that can be prescribed Sad

Sorry to hear you're still suffering - just wanted to suggest you try Iglu - available in pharmacies / supermarket - it's similar to Adcortyl in that it works as a paste, sticks to the ulcer and kills the pain. Works really well.

I also use Anbesol to numb the ulcer, before applying Iglu before eating.

Also take anti-inflammatories on a regular basis to keep the pain down.

Ulcers are bloody horrible, hope youre feeling better

Katy, do ask if your immune system will be checked. Ulcers can be a symptom of an underlying problem.

KatyMac · 22/10/2013 09:50

Hopefully the blood tests will show if there is anything underlying

Apparently

It's just one of those things

I need to put up with it - they are only mouth ulcers

They could be stress, a virus or the menopause

The ones on the tip of my tongue are tiny & not worth bothering with (I only have about 15 or so tiny ulcers - after 2 weeks of steroids Shock)

But I have to take the steroids for a further 4 weeks & have some so when it starts again I can take them again

I'm not sure I have the right language to explain how I feel right now

Yes, I think my language would be along the lines of $€$¥%*>?%# at this point. How can they not help you further? Grrr.

Wine and chillies are always triggers for me, my DM finds tomatoes too acidic and they cause mouth ulcers for her.

Katy - that's really not good enough. Can you ask for a second opinion (not sure from who though - maybe others can help).
You shouldn't have to put up with it and shut up about it.

I just don't know - I really was very ill
