Mirena Coil fitting tomorrow and dreading it.

I have to go to get the mirena coil fitted first thing tomorrow morning and I am dreading it to be honest.
I've was told to take paracetomol or ibruprofen before I go and I have heard that it does hurt. Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

It will be over before you know it. I focused on birthing breathing to distract me and keep me calm - the nurse kept trying to have a conversation with me and I just wanted to count while breathing and block it all out!
I forget which one is which - is mirena the 5yr one with no periods? That's the one I've got and the GP fitting it said she wished she had that one fitted - after months/years of hormone rollercoaster hell it's like having a new body with no periods.

I have had two mirena coils fitted and the first one i asked the Dr if he had finished, it was fine. I did have some problems getting it out due to my cervix hiding so they insisted i had it out under sedation if i wanted anotehr fitted, which i did.

Take the ibruprofen and paracetemol anyway, but it really is no more uncomfortable than a smear ime - although some people find that painful so just take it to be on the safe side.

You'll be fine - and hopefully, bye bye AF :)

I had one put in about a month ago, and it was honestly FINE. I did take a couple of ibuprofen in advance as advised, and my GP had prepared me for it to feel a bit stingy during the procedure but hand on heart, it didn't hurt, and it really doesn't take long.

You might well have some periody type cramps afterwards, I did, but nothing that would have stopped me in my tracks.

At least it's first thing and will be over and done with. Hope you can treat yourself to a coffee and a cake after!

yes it will be 5 years with no periods. I will not miss the whole period thing though a bit scared at having it done. Especially as I am supposed to be going straight to work after it.

You'll be fine. It'll be over soon enough. I have a very low pain threshold. I had mine fitted nearly 2 years ago and although I do remember it being uncomfortable, I don't remember the pain.
I had to take some time after because I felt a bit light-headed, but was told that was normal, andit was fine after about 5 minutes.
I had to have one, my periods were so bad. I do still get them but nothing like it was.

I'll be honest with you OP - it's not pleasant, but it is bearable and you WILL be ok. It's not too long a procedure. Definitely take whatever you can beforehand and then do the alternating paracetamol/nurofen thing until the crampy pains stop (approx 3-4 hours).

If you can, just lie in bed/on the sofa afterwards and be kind to yourself. Eat .

Oh and 'light spotting' afterwards is an underestimation?

I find it fairly similar to having a smear, but it's crampy afterwards, that's when the painkiller is handy.

I really wish I could just lie on sofa/bed after having it done though it was the appointment I had to take and supposed to be going to work.

My cervix is in a really awkward position apparently, I had to do the whole fists clenched under my bum thing to raise it up for the doctor to see.
I should think you'll be fine to go straight to work after. I went to the supermarket and did the food shopping.
Silly me did have sex that night which probably wasn't the best idea so wwas pretty uncomfortable the following day. Although i was told I'd be fine to have sex as long as I felt ok, next time I'll leave it a few days.

Yes I think it would be a good idea to have no sex tonight just to be on safe side. I guess I am going to expect a lot of bleeding afterwards.

I had mine done on the last day of my period and did get bleeding for two to three days afterwards.
Some places that fit it offer a local anastethic which I did have.
It was uncomfortable but not hugely and certainly not painful.

I cried before as I was so scared
Took ibruprofen and codeine! She used local anaesthetic gel, my legs shook a lot but I felt nothing and I have no DC

I will be honest I am messing myself at the thought of going tomorrow. I am sure it will be fine like everyone is saying though I always get myself into a state in situations like this. I am also unsure what is the best thing I should wear tomorrow morning. As I am supposed to be going to work straight after I would normally wear something like a top, cardi and trousers to work as I am not a big fan of skirts as I dont like showing off my legs too much.

Well they give you a paper sheet to cover yourself so don't worry too much what you wear

Hopefully not much pain for me either then. Yep I suppose paper sheet plus my clothes top half wont be quite so bad.

I'm the same deb I worry about stuff and am an absolute wuss. But what's the alternative of not having it?
For me, I'd been bleeding every single day for 16 months. Towards the end I was wearing a super tampon plus a towel, changing both after 2 hours and still sometimes leaking through to knickers and trousers. many occasions I had to leave work because of it. Very embarrassing and no way could that continue.
What's your alternative? Maybe try to think of that as a way to keep your mind in the place where a coil is the best idea iykwim

I had mine fitted last week, it was absolutely fine :)

Took paracetamol about 10mins before I went in, it went in fine, not crampy at all then, just a weird twinge as they shot it up. Had some cramp about 12 hours after, just as I was going to bed, but nothing the next day, and the only blood was a tiny spot I noticed the first time I went for a wee after. Havent noticed it since.

Wondering why I never had one years ago!!

I'm thinking of having a mire a coil, just waiting for an abdominal ultrasound (checking for fibroids I think).

If the coil doesn't stop my periods completely, does anyone know if I'd still be able to use a mooncup with the coil in?

OP -hope it all goes well. Think of the long term benefits if the going gets tough.

Yes you can still use a moon cup if you get periods with mirena coil, or any type coil. They advise no tampons or mooncup for the first week after fitting, as there is a small risk of accidentally pulling it out when it hasn't completely settled in the first few days, but after that its fine. HTH.

My periods are so heavy that I can't even start to imagine that they might stop completely if I get a coil fitted!
