Nailpolish this sounds like it could be chickenpox if other kids in the nursery have it.

I remember when I was at school though we still used to go in if we felt up to it with chickenpox as children are going to catch it at some time or another.

sorry if this is not much help.

nailpolish · 15/06/2006 09:53

she is running around desperate to go to the library

and so should i keep her off playgroup today and tomorrow or what???

DS1 had it last week - started with a few small red spots noticed at 8.20am on back - by lunchtime he had about 50 on back, front and a few on head - some were beginning to go blistery.

I would probably assume chickenpox - you will probably know for sure by this afternoon.

nailpolish · 15/06/2006 09:56

i cant stop checking her

its like they appear before your very eyes

but will she continue to feel ok or start to feel unwell? or just itch?

hi nailpolish! the pox is upon us at the moment!!!ds2 went to bed completely well and a s far as i was aware spot free on tuesday night.woke up yesterday covered from head to knee in spots! mostly red blotches yesterday but have started blistering today.wasn't unwell yesterday but is a bit grumpy/weepy and clingy today.if you can see more appearing i would keep her home.

psychomum5 · 15/06/2006 10:03

pox is infectious from 2 days before spots appear to when the last spot has dried up, if that helps at all.

if the kiddes you will be seeing today have already been in contact then don't worry, other saty away as you don't know if there may be pregnant mums there....

nailpolish · 15/06/2006 10:07

oh well

we shall stay in then

i suppose dd2 will be next

the other thing is FIL is having a birthdap party on saturday, he is in the middle of chemotherapy, what a nightmare Sad

OP posts:
alexsmum · 15/06/2006 10:15

won't be able to go to that thenSad.maybe dh could go alone? the doctor told me that my ds1 will almost certainly catch it within the next 2 weeks, and to keep away from pregnant people.

throckenholt · 15/06/2006 10:17

ds1 was just a bit grumpy and a bit itchy - but not too bad - was fine playing normally most of the time. And intermittently asked plaintively why he had chicken pox !

If younger one was exposed to the same source then they should get it soon, otherwise you will have 2-3 weeks to wait before they get it from the current sufferer (we are waiting for our twins to come out with them - probably at the weekend).

nailpolish · 15/06/2006 10:32

ooh i hadnt thought about not taking dd2 to FIL's party - i suppose she could have it and give it to him

i was kind of planning on sending dh with dd2 but ill have to rethink

throck - dd1 is delighted she has the pox! (just now anyway) her friends have all had it very recently and she didnt like missing out!

NP, you can't take her out with a mystery rash. It sounds very much like chicken pox, and if it isn't, it could be something else contagious. Take her along to the doctor's if you can.

nailpolish · 15/06/2006 12:23

im not taking her to the doctors for chickenpox

she ahs no other symptoms

OP posts:
bluejelly · 15/06/2006 12:26

go to the park instead

FrannyandZooey · 15/06/2006 12:26

well I'm not sure what to say. We've said you shouldn't take her anywhere, but you asked if she should go to playgroup, so I thought maybe you were not convinced it was chicken pox. I can't really give you any other advice. Hope she's ok.

nailpolish · 15/06/2006 12:27

uch i know

i wnat to take her but i know i shouldnt (not really)

neighbour says take her

OP posts:
Fimbo · 15/06/2006 12:27

I wouldn't take her out NP. My dd was sick when she had it. Usually if you put them in the bath the spots start to appear more rapidly afterwards so then you can decide whether or not it is the pox. Make sure you have a supply of calamine lotion just in case.

FrannyandZooey · 15/06/2006 12:28

What, your neighbour is saying take a child with chicken pox to playgroup?

PARP

nailpolish · 15/06/2006 12:30

we went for a walk this morning and got a supply of calamine lotion, stickers and ice pops

we will stay in but im dreading teling her Sad

OP posts:
nailpolish · 15/06/2006 12:32

can i ask another daft question please

FIL is having chemo at the moment

obv, i cant take dd1 to his party (and i dont think i should take dd2 cos she is prob a carrier just now)

but should dh and i steer clear of FIL too? we have both had chickenpox

tia

Personally I would err on the side of caution with FIL.

Having had chickenpox doesn't guarantee immunity this time round. Probably would be fine but do you want to take the risk with someone who is immunosuppressed?
