Post Gallbladder removal

muddleup · 20/07/2013 22:24

I had my Gallbladder removed on Tuesday, home Wednesday and thought I had made the right decision to have it removed.

Had to go to see GP on Thursday as one of my wounds had opened, but thought that was the worst that was to happen.

Had a bowl of cereal later on and had really bad diarrhea, lots of pain where my Gallbladder was, had a ham roll later that night and diarrhea was just as bad, exactly how it was before my Gallbladder was removed.
Today I had a small amount of plain chicken and plain rice and within 10 minutes I was running to the toilet and it was bright green.
The pain tonight is unbearable but I dont know if this is normal.
Not sure if any of this is normal.
Help!!

Thanks

I would ring the ward and check. I had my gallbladder removed 4 years ago and don't remember feeling like that. I was very sore and bruised.

We're you given a leaflet on discharge from the ward.

Sorry, not much help bit didn't want to ignore your post.

GoingToBedfordshire · 20/07/2013 22:31

Seek medical help tonight, call your out of hours for advice about where to go.

I had mine out a few weeks ago, and what you have described was definitely not mentioned by the consultant in what to expect post surgery.

Hope you feel better soon, sounds really horrible.

Roshbegosh · 20/07/2013 22:31

This doesn't sound right to me, you need to ring the ward.

ceebeegeebies · 20/07/2013 22:33

Definitely seek medical advice - not sure that is normal.

I had mine removed 4 years ago and had no complications/pain whatsoever and can't remember what the doctors said about post-operation complications but I am guessing bright green poo is not one of them!

valiumredhead · 20/07/2013 23:35

Hand a feeling from friends experiences that you gave to take things very slowly at first and reintroduce foods over a matter of time.

valiumredhead · 20/07/2013 23:36

Have not hand

Hope you're ok, OP? I had my gallbladder removed by keyhole surgery May 2012 and had nothing like that at all. I did have a recurrence of the pain, though, which ended up being two gallstones missed in the bile duct. I hope you have been in touch with the hospital or gone to A and E. Good luck.

bigbluebus · 21/07/2013 19:38

Definitely not normal in my opinion.
DH had his Gall Bladder removed by keyhole surgery 3 months ago. He definitely wasn't told to expect those symptoms and was told he could eat a normal diet straight away, once he had recovered from the anaesthetic. The only pain he had was from the bruising/wounds from surgery and he only needed paracetemol for 24hrs after surgery for that.

I hope you have sought medical advice by now OP

Ouch, you poor thing. I had my gallbladder out in March and had no problems at all (apart from bruising). I hope you feel better soon Thanks

NUFC69 · 22/07/2013 13:36

Hope you have some news by now, Op? At least you're in the best place. Keep us posted as to how you are getting on.

muddleup · 22/07/2013 17:44

Nothing to report, dr last night thought I might have a haematoma or a rogue stone, maybe some bile had leaked so I would get a CT scan or possibly go back to theatre
Dr this morning ordered an X-ray of my tummy but I still haven't had it.
Still on drip and morphine but not any further forward.
Don't know what's going on, hopefully tomorrow something will happen. Sad

Poor you - I have every sympathy. I hope it's not too long before you feel better and find out what is wrong.

Take care.

Poor you, hope you very sorted very soon xSmile Brew Thanks

muddleup · 23/07/2013 17:48

Well still here, they moved me wards at 2am this morning, wasnt feeling very cheery.
X-ray came back clear, surgeon is now saying that she thinks my body wasn't given enough time to get over the operation.
I'm now being told I'm going home which is a relief as I don't think I could cope in here much more

You'll sleep well tonight x

gleegeek · 23/07/2013 18:18

I had diarrhoea etc after my gallbladder op and loads of pain. I have to eat little fat or it reoccurs. My Mum had the same symptoms and they found stones in her bile duct... She took Cholestyramine for the rest of her life, which did help a bit... I think when gall bladder ops go well, they're fine but I think there are more frequent complications than we realise.

Rest as much as you can and make sure you pester them to help if you need it. Good luck x

muddleup · 23/07/2013 23:42

Well home and tucked up in bed, today was the first day I ate and it was half a ham sandwich at tea time on the ward and sure as fate when I came home the diarrhoea started again.
Have to see my gp tomorrow as the ward didn't have enough painkillers to give me home as hospital pharmacy was shut, but I don't know what happens next, do I just eat only when I'm in the house and don't have to go anywhere, or do I stop eating all together?
This is such a mine field and its scaring me.

Sorry to hear of all your troubles.
Wasnt able to reply to your reply the other day on Sunday I think it was, iykwim.

Caster8 · 24/07/2013 10:15
Thanks Please dont use the other name. Sorry to be cryptic.
valiumredhead · 24/07/2013 12:12

I think you need to take it slowly, clear fluids, broth, nothing fatty just yet. Eat like you eat getting over a bug then reintroduce food slowly that's what my friend did.

NUFC69 · 24/07/2013 15:18

Poor you - had to check to see what was happening. I do know how you feel because when I ended up back in A and E under 48 hours after my discharge I wondered what I had done. I have no ideas about how to cope with your problems, other than to say that Valium probably has the right idea.

I had several months of problems after my removal (but nothing like yours, ie the same pains as before the removal), but once I had the endoscopy (MRI scan first), I was fine, and life now is great. Good luck.

muddleup · 25/07/2013 11:37

Well I'm back in, gp sent me back in yesterday morning.
She said I was jaundiced and the pain was really bad.
Dr at a and e was nice said I was to get CT scan.
Came up to ward and the dr that discharged me wasn't happy I was back, said if I was still in pain today she would send me got a CT Scan, then I was left got 5 hours editing got pain relieve.
Dr came this morning said as I was a bounce back then they have to find out why I'm in pain, then asked if I worked, when I said no she asked why? I said I had mental health issues her reply was that explains it.
My friend phoned my CPN got me as I'm really struggling co she is going to try come see me.
If my scan is clear I'm coming home his this is too hard :(
