Why have I woken up with 21 bruises on my arm???

EdwiniasRevenge · 10/06/2013 09:45

On my left forearm I have 21 small bruises. They are on the outside edge. Range in size from a small fingernail to a thumbnail.

On my right arm I have 4 larger bruises in the same position (actually looks like several smaller ones that are so close they have joined).

I was doing diy yesterday but most and the bigger area are on my non dominant arm, and I don't think I repeatedly knocked these areas.

I had a very restless night last night, but sleep alone.

I do bruise easily in general, but can generally work out where my bruises come from.

It's wierd.

Well I had my blood test.

I put a lot of pressure on to make sure it stopped!

Clotting results tomorrow. Fbcs and others next week.

Good. Glad they are investigating.

EdwiniasRevenge · 12/06/2013 14:48

No clotting results - insufficient sample
Fbc liver function and gamma gt all normal

I'm apparently fit and healthy but covered in bruises and cant keep my eyes open.

thats a positive re the liver function Ed! Frustrating though about the clotting, are they to take another test or just wait and see? You know, am thinking, could it be the citalopram side effects resulting in not only you tossing and turning in bed but bruising easily? Have any more bruises come up?

TolliverGroat · 12/06/2013 15:11

Have you had thyroid levels checked? That could tie in to both tiredness and bruising.

EdwiniasRevenge · 12/06/2013 18:51

Receptionist is going to check with dr re another clotting screen. May not be needed if all other results normal.

Bit confused though as the others were supposed to take a week.

Thyroid was checked in feb and fine.

Its complicated as I am currently being treated for anxiety and depression. Tiredness and nausea could be related to that although has been good recently. Started to go downhill thurs/fri last week.

Easy bruising is classified as rare side effect of fluoxetine. But I've been on it since oct so gp thought that was unlikely cause.

I have a few more bruises today. A couple in unusual places. Nothing like my arms. If I wasn't worried about bruising I wouldn't think they were particularly unusual...but am obviously hyper aware atm.

My bloods site has also bruised a bit overnight.

Very confused.

Did you have the back off the machine and unclipping the black pipes with pliers?

You could have leaned your arm against the side of the machine doing this...from what I remember when I did it.

Doesn't explain the cause but might explain the left arm thing iyswim.

LEMisdisappointed · 12/06/2013 19:10

I guess they will have sent the bloods to the lab for the liver and Fbc - I used to run these at the vets and they only take about half an hour to run in the automated machine, they probably said it would be up to a week depending on backlog etc. Its really encouraging that these results were normal. When you had the thyroid bloods, did you actually get the levels? I think the line between normal and hypo is quite a blurry one. Maybe start on some multi-vits, just plain ones so as not to interact with the fluox. I really should take some vitamins, exercise, something - its hard isn't it?

EdwiniasRevenge · 12/06/2013 19:11

Yes I was taking the sump pipes off.

But because of the position of the machine I know I wasn't leaning on this part of my arm. I would have had to be laying on the floor to do so.

I can't say for definite that I haven't injured myself. But I just can't work out how.

I dont know anything about all of this. I hope they get it sorted soon Edwinia Smile

RoooneyMara · 12/06/2013 20:33

I hate that job Smile

Well I really hope you get this sorted - it does sound kind of physiological rather than injury-type thing. Let us know won't you, if you find out?

EdwiniasRevenge · 12/06/2013 21:06

I will.

I'm just frustrated that it is so not normal but no obvious cause.

If it doesn't reoccur I won't be overly concerned. But will definitely keep an eye.

I've worked it out.

There is only one plausible explaination

I was abducted by aliens and subjected to a form of experimentation that involves grappling me on the arms. And then they held a zappy thing to my tummy and stole all my energy.

I feel reassured as to the cause now. I will sleep peacefully tonight Hmm

I was just coming over to say go to sleep Edwinia!

EdwiniasRevenge · 13/06/2013 17:40

Just had a call from the surgery.

Bloods are being repeated next week. Not sure if some or all though.

Thank you for updating your thread.

LEMisdisappointed · 13/06/2013 17:54

probably just the blood clotting ones x

noddyholder · 13/06/2013 17:56

Naproxen is like ibuprofen isn't it and that makes me bruise

EdwiniasRevenge · 13/06/2013 19:04

Yes naproxen and ibuprofen are both NSAIDS.

But I only took naproxen from 10th april ish to the end of april.

I haven't taken any for over a month
