Why have I woken up with 21 bruises on my arm???

On my left forearm I have 21 small bruises. They are on the outside edge. Range in size from a small fingernail to a thumbnail.

On my right arm I have 4 larger bruises in the same position (actually looks like several smaller ones that are so close they have joined).

I was doing diy yesterday but most and the bigger area are on my non dominant arm, and I don't think I repeatedly knocked these areas.

I had a very restless night last night, but sleep alone.

I do bruise easily in general, but can generally work out where my bruises come from.

It's wierd.

Bump.

This morning they all started out a terracottery colour. Now some are going grey/purple loke normal bruises.

I dont know bt I thought I would bump for you as well.
Personally I would go and get it checked out with the Gp

The only thing I can think of is are you taking more or different medicine or pills in the last few days.

CabbageLeaves · 10/06/2013 19:44

Blood test needed to check your clotting?

EdwiniasRevenge · 10/06/2013 19:57

I have been taken fluoxetine since oct.

One of the listed side effects is easier bruising. But I haven't had a problem since oct. I probably do bruise easier but I haven't had anything like this come up spontaneously.

I have also been taking prescribed nsaids (naproxen). But I took those for 3 weeks in april and haven't been taking them since.

Ouch! That a lot of bruises. I reckon you can put it down to DIY + the drugs.

DressageCriminal · 10/06/2013 20:46

Ooh, just looked at your pics. There are a lot of bruises!

Do you, by any chance, sleep with your arms behind your head?

Ilikethebreeze · 10/06/2013 20:49

Are you sure that they are bruises?
Could you be allergic to something?

I still think you need to see the GP

EdwiniasRevenge · 10/06/2013 20:54

Yes 21 on my left arm! I think a few more show up on the photos that I can't see.

The diy didn't cause be to bang my arm. I was repairing my washing machine. So using pliers and a screwdriver. Notibg more invoved that that. If it was the physical use of my arms bursting blood vessels why is my left (non dominant) worse than my right.

I don't think I sleep with my arms behind my head.

The only thing I can think of is that I banged my arms on my bedside table....but 20+ times without realising???

I will.

Dr google has just diagnosed me with aplastic anemia. ..as a result of the parvovirus dr google diagnosed me with 2 weeks ago...sigh...

Glad you are going to the GP

Dont read/listen to dr google
I did that once. Read up about x y and z to do with what I had
Went to GP, and I didnt have it at all.
i should imagine I am not the first person to have done that, nor will be the last.

LEMisdisappointed · 10/06/2013 21:49

They look like finger marks

EdwiniasRevenge · 10/06/2013 21:53

That's exactly what they look like.

As though I have been grabbed and grappled. But I havent.

I went to bed on my own. I woke up on my own...numerous times...

Mild idiopathic thrombocytic purpura from recent infection more likely

See your Dr It's probably due to the parvo and you will be fine.

Quangle · 10/06/2013 22:08

A friend had these symptoms and she actually did have aplastic anaemia so dr google is right sometimes. Actually it wasn't quite these symptoms - she was getting a lot of bruises all the time, not lots in one night. Hope this doesn't freak you out - but do just go to the dr to get the tests.

domesticslattern · 10/06/2013 22:16

Unexplained bruising is always a reason to trot along to the GP.

Hope you're better soon.

EdwiniasRevenge · 10/06/2013 22:19

Tbh.

It fits.

I had flu like illness and bone pain about 3 weeks ago. Those are key symptoms of parvovirus. I had been in contact with an infected child.

I have spontaneous bruises. The forearms are (according to dr google) a common location.
I am exhausted. I am nauseous. Both are symptoms of aplastic anaemia, but are also symptoms of depression and anxiety which is someyhing I am also being treated for. These symptoms were under control until the last few days though.

I am a scientist so I can interpret medical literature better than the average person using dr Google. ..but it is also easy to project symptoms on yourself. Ive just read bresthlessness is a symptom. ..now I'm feeling wheezy....

I'm off to the drs at 9.

I kind of feel like a bit of a fraud. They are only bruises but at the same time I know its not right...

OP posts:
Ilikethebreeze · 11/06/2013 08:24

Glad you have got the appointment
You are not a fraud!

EdwiniasRevenge · 11/06/2013 09:18

Dr not overly concerned.

Didnt think there was any link to the parvo.

But I'm going back in a couple of hours for a blood test...
