Heart attack symptoms? Or just me being silly...?

My OH is upstairs in bed. He's been unwell since last night, bad indigestion he said, and feeling like he might throw up. We ate the same food (pretty heavy on the fat content yesterday!) so I don't think it's good poisoning. He says it hurts right below his chest bone, like a bad stomach ache. He's overweight, but usually quite active. Today he's been out of breath going up and down the stairs. His face is quite flushed but more purple than red iyswim? He's also quite clammy and sweaty on and off, but no fever. He insists he's ok and just needs to sleep. I'm worried its more serious... My instinct is erring on the side of caution but I don't want to be a paranoid fool if its just a tummy bug.

Anyone have any advice?

Handholding for both of you. I'm pleased that he relented, and is in the right place.

I have a stubborn dh with a doctor aversion, and I know that he would be very similar.

FancyPuffin · 02/04/2013 09:19

Hope that everything is okay raisin

Keeping my fingers crossed..

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 02/04/2013 09:19

Hoping all is well.

So far he's ticked all the boxes for heart attack and gall stones. He's drugged up and on monitors. I hate seeing him so ill. He looks so frail. Usually he looks like a bear. Horrid horrid horrid. Praying like mad.

Sorry to hear your worries were justified, glad that you are in the right place though.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, its terrifying seeing someone you love looking frail.

notapizzaeater · 02/04/2013 09:51

He's now in the best hands, hope he starts feeling better in - men !!!

Lucyellensmum95 · 02/04/2013 10:33

They will be able to tell what it is pretty soon - fingers crossed for gallstones xx either way, he is in the right place and will be set up for prompt treatment.

lemontwist · 02/04/2013 12:25

So glad he gave in. Men can be stubborn! Fingers crossed that it turns out to be nothing too serious.

strongandlong · 02/04/2013 12:33

Very glad he's in the right place. Hope all is OK.

wrinklyraisin · 02/04/2013 12:59

Still waiting on more results to confirm stuff, then put on place a course of action. Looks like a gallstone attack triggered a mild to moderate heart attack. I mean, seriously! Only my fella could get a double whammy like that. He's in the right place tho so I'm starting to panic less iyswim and think more to the fact he will be ok. Was very F'ing scared for a while there.

You need a hug, that sounds scary x

Madsometimes · 02/04/2013 13:42

Lots more handholding. Heart problems are very treatable if caught early. Yes, your dh may need to modify his lifestyle, diet etc, but things will improve. You will both need lots of support though, because recovery from heart problems is linked to depression, a bit like after having a baby.

Juniperdewdropofbrandy · 02/04/2013 15:09

Oh love thank God he went. Sending positive vibes he gets the best treatment and some for you too x

cece · 02/04/2013 16:19

Hope things are better today. Thank goodness you took him. x

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 02/04/2013 16:46

Oh you poor thing. What an absolute nightmare.

At least he's in the right place now.

Look after yourself.

QOD · 02/04/2013 17:08

Oh wow double whammy!

ExcuseTypos · 02/04/2013 17:19

Glad he let you take him and glad he's recieving treatment now.

Quick update. The ER has been amazing. Seriously cannot fault them, running as many tests as they did as quickly as they did, starting treatment within such a short time. My OH is literally a different man 12 hours later. He's on various meds, but they're happy with his progress as his heart rate has been stable for hours now, pain is managed too. I need to check but he's on antibiotics, beta blockers, aspirin, and another IV he's just finishing up. We will know more soon. The dr said something about him maybe coming home once he's been stable 24hrs. Then surgery can be scheduled after the antibiotics are done. Typically he's insisting he doesn't want to be admitted overnight now he's feeling better. But thank God, thank GOD, he did listen and let me drive him here. Lesson learned: sometimes it is serious. He's already joked a few times that he's never going to live this down. I said I bloody hope so, after everything I've gone through. FFS. I nearly needed heart attack treatment myself!!!

Sorry to hear that your fears were justified, but so glad you finally got him to hospital and that he's on the mend!

Don't forget to look after yourself too Thanks

Gingerandcocoa · 02/04/2013 19:06

Wow how lucky he is to have an OH like you :). Well done for insisting and taking him to hospital.

Hope he gets back home soon & that the road to recovery is bump-free :)

Chugnut · 02/04/2013 20:50

Glad he got checked out. I hope he is in the mend soon

Juniperdewdropofbrandy · 02/04/2013 23:45

That's good to hear. I know how scary it is though.

Brandy's always good in this sort of situation Wink
