Heart attack symptoms? Or just me being silly...?

My OH is upstairs in bed. He's been unwell since last night, bad indigestion he said, and feeling like he might throw up. We ate the same food (pretty heavy on the fat content yesterday!) so I don't think it's good poisoning. He says it hurts right below his chest bone, like a bad stomach ache. He's overweight, but usually quite active. Today he's been out of breath going up and down the stairs. His face is quite flushed but more purple than red iyswim? He's also quite clammy and sweaty on and off, but no fever. He insists he's ok and just needs to sleep. I'm worried its more serious... My instinct is erring on the side of caution but I don't want to be a paranoid fool if its just a tummy bug.

Anyone have any advice?

I hope that no response to this thread means that DH is in hospital being looked after. Fingers crossed it'll be something really minor but if not really hope things are okay OP.
Please come back if you get chance and put our minds at rest.

He's insisting he's ok. Sat on the couch next to me, drinking ginger ale and saying he's ok. I'm not convinced and I'm scared, but he won't listen FFS. And I am not in the uk, but it's easy enough for me to call an ambulance if I need to. I hope I won't. He won't let me drive him to hospital. Ugh. SOOOOOO FRUSTRATED. And scared. He's a grown man and he won't admit there's a problem and get seen. What do I do? He does seem a little better than earlier. But I've got that feeling of impending doom even if he doesn't.

Do you have the equivalent of NHS direct where you are?

Could you show him this thread and get him to see that you are being cautious rather than neurotic?

We - as a collective - tend to worry more about 'causing a fuss for nothing' than the real dangers we might be in. It's ridiculous really - tell him you are calling to be on the safe side.

I do wonder if its gall bladder related. He's complaining of upper right quadrant pain that kind of goes around to his back. Plus he's now got diarrhea. He's in the bathroom now. Keeps telling me to quit worrying. I want to punch him, knock him out, and drag him to the ER myself. Seriously, why do they insist they're fine?!?!?

On the face of it clammy, chest pains, shortness of breath, overweight, assuming no regular previous history of indigestion, male - I'd be concerned. Perfectly reasonable to call an ambulance, would be considered a very sensible thing to do. Is he still suffering the symptoms or have they gone?

It's hard to tell. He knows I'm worried about him now so he's being all chipper. He's still breathing quite fast/shallow but his color has improved. I just don't know. Ugh.

Oops cross post. Obviously if he sees a doctor it might be proven that something's is actually wrong whereas as long as he refuses then technically there is nothing wrong with him. Obviously.

Just tell him you are calling an ambulance!

I would be feeling the same as you.

Can you call an ambulance - he can refuse to go with them but at least he will have been checked out. And if they suspect heart issues he may be willing to follow their advice?

Show him this thread. Or call an ambulance for him anyway. I have seen people in the middle of a heart attack who at first glance look fairly fit and well. If he turns out to be fine, great, nothing lost. If he is very poorly and he gets seen quickly then potentially EVERYTHING gained.

The pain round the back is worrying too. All bad signs. Ring an ambulance.

Call an ambulance.

Just seen cupoftea's comment that being disoriented was one of her DF's symptoms (so sorry, cupoftea) If he has had a heart attack, he may need someone else to be making the decisions right now.

Chest pains and breathlessness could be a pulmonary embolism

Get it it checked

It isn't nothing otherwise he wouldn't feel pain

Hope your ok op

Call an ambulance, if you're wrong you'll have a bit of flack to put up with later but that is better than being right and doing nothing.

ivykaty44 · 01/04/2013 23:36

Ask him if he would be happy for you to stay home with chest pains and breathing problems or whether he would be happier to get you his ds checked over.

I'm in the ER with him now. He finally gave in at 2am and admitted he should get seen. Having tests etc done now. Am scared but at least he's in the right place now. Thanks for all your replies. I read him the riot act about taking all this seriously. I'll update when I can.
