Colonic Irrigation. Should I have it done?

Lizzylou · 20/03/2013 12:50

Colleague wants me to go with her to have colonic irrigation.
Not in same room, obviously, that would be weird.

She had it done a few years ago and has raved about how good she felt. Said it was just a strange sensation.

I cannot get my head around the fact that someone would be shoving a tube up my arse and pumping warm water around my guts though.

Is it worth the weirdness?

We would be going to a reputable and regulated place btw.

No no and no. I've had it done i lay there thinking what the fuck am I doing with this tube up my bum, it was wrong on many levels . The woman preached to me about how we're all meant to do three shits a day or there is something wrong with us. I also left with a pot of expensive probiotics ( to replace the ones that had been washed out) Confused

@Lizzylou

I was very swayed by the people who said how wonderful they felt afterwards, cleansed and clean. I'd like to feel clean inside. I'd like sparkly eyes and a sense of wellbeing.

I wanted this too. So much.
I am big into acupuncture.
But it is basically paying someone to give you diarrhoea imo
And also the water sort of stirred up everything and made me feel RUBBISH actually.
(usual HQ disclaimers etc)

I think if the goal is to have sparkly eyes and a sense of wellbeing, you might be concentrating on the wrong end.

Spend more time worrying about your input and less fussing about the output.

Unless you have bowel problems (in which case a GP might be more use that a hose up the jacksy), improved diet and exercise will have more benefit than a self-induced bout of the shits.

Truly I wanted to believe but this was utter bollocks, there is a viewing box so you can see the dirty water coming out of your arse.

The inside of your colon is smooth and muscular. It is simply not possible for any faecal matter to "build up"

One of my (very sensible) friends raved about it.

I just think I could have 3 or 4 pints of Guiness for much the same effect and save myself £50.

Ok, ok. The $60 will be better spent I am sure.
Perhaps on Guinness?!

How can your shit make your eyes sparkle less

Report
Lizzylou · 21/03/2013 08:12

Who knows?!
But that is one side effect that lots of people mention after having it done.

I will invest in some eye drops and swerve the bum tube.

A week in a spa somewhere hot and tropical would make anyone's eyes sparkle with or without a garden hose up the wrong un!

I felt simply marvellous, darling, after a month long cricket tour of a hot and humid australia but all we did was drink beer and have lots of parties with the oppo. Much more fun!

Good decision :) some of the benefits may be devised simply through the aftercare you are instructed to do. Lots of water, no alcohol, probiotics. You would probably feel brighter after that alone minus the bum wash.

I've seen the inside of a lot of bowels, and unless you have diverticulosis, there is just nowhere for anything to build up or get 'stuck'.

If you want clear skin and sparkly eyes, then don't drink alcohol, drink plenty of water/green tea, and eat more veggies/fruit and less junk/processed food. You don't need to pay anyone for that!

This sparkly eyes thing, and feeling good.

People who have had any 'fight or flight' experience, ordeal or survived something which they felt nervous about beforehand often have a wide-eyed look and a feeling of euphoria that it is over.

I suspect a lot of placebo effect following colonic irrigation. And what ritualistic or metaphorical resonance it has.

Worth wondering where this need to feel 'cleansed' comes from, too. I wonder how many men compared to women sign up for colonic irrigation?

My brother has had it done, present from his MIL. Who is quite woo.

But yes, prob a female quick fix thing really.

I do suffer a bit with bowels. Have been on trips to well-known D&V hotspots and had crippling constipation while all around me people were succumbing to Delhi belly Blush

Will just carry on with diet and exercise then.

As an alternative to an Oxfam voucher for a goat a colonic irrigation from a woman to her son-in-law is quite a present!

I cannot in a million years imagine my mother deciding to give DP a colonic irrigation experience. Except in some mastepiece of passive aggression, perhaps.

Sorry, have I got this right...Your db's mil thinks that he is full of shit?

Sorry, that has to be the funniest line I have seen on here this week Grin

I have had it years ago in my 20s We all did it and it did make me very skinny looking for a few days and a bit of a energised feeling but nothing for my eyes or skin or anything.

Ha ha.
No, she had raved about them and he had feigned shown interest.
I don't think that he'd repeat it though!

I have carried out CI for 7-8 years now and did my last one a few weeks ago. I have never perforated any ones bowels or given any one an infection. The tubes are all single use disposable the machine is didnfected between clients and the water is under very low pressure. Some people find the treatement a little uncomfortable like a period pain.
The benefits are questionable. Some people found it a complete life saver. It can help with constipation and IBS. However other people felt no different after. It horses for courses.

If you're suffering with your bowels and seeking help, I would recommend taking a daily probitic. I have IBS and this has helped me immensely.

There's no way anyone's shoving a hosepipe up my back passage!

Report
sashh · 23/03/2013 09:28

Half way through the picolax before a bowel procedure I would have killed for CI instead.

I have a persisteen which I do myself, a mini irrigation system a bit like a colonic

Report
Xenia · 23/03/2013 09:55

I had it done once about 10 years ago out of curiosity. It was no good at all. I have never had bowl trouble and our bowels eliminate what they need to do anyway in the ordinary course of events so it did not have any impact on me at all.

Report
Reenypip · 23/03/2013 10:00

I use a persisteen (like a mini colonic that can do myself) every other day to help me go, alongside multiple laxatives. Otherwise I can't go.
