Colonic Irrigation. Should I have it done?

Colleague wants me to go with her to have colonic irrigation.
Not in same room, obviously, that would be weird.

She had it done a few years ago and has raved about how good she felt. Said it was just a strange sensation.

I cannot get my head around the fact that someone would be shoving a tube up my arse and pumping warm water around my guts though.

Is it worth the weirdness?

We would be going to a reputable and regulated place btw.

I have it done regular! Well approx every 3/4 months.

I work strange shifts as a nurse and eat at stupid times, quite normal to have curry at 5am! So I swear by it.

It makes me feel so much better!
I can tell when I'm due which sounds weird! You can't knock it till you've tried it

Long time ago I had a few weeks stay in hospital, complete bed rest, on codeine, embarrassment of having to use a bed pan. After almost 2 weeks with no poos -even after they pumped dye up my bottom for a CAT scan -they resorted to suppositories (first ones a nurse put them in for me .) Eventually things sorted themselves out - mainly when I could use a real toilet!
After a while I realised that I had never had 'big' satisfying poos (regular but always thin - sorry if that's TMI)...and had IBS symptoms, serious pain, regular bloating had been to GP ...
After 12yrs of this I seriously thought about trying CI ...but read all the horror stories...
Instead I took full dose lactulose for the best part of a week (wasn't pleasant - lets just say you wouldn't want to be in the same room as me ) made me really thirsty so I drank lots of water ... end result normal 'poos' and IBS gone. Probably should have run it past the GP before I did it....
Now I really believe it is possible to get a build up ...but I still wouldn't do a CI...especially not just to get sparkly eyes!
(Also a flatmate of mine's gran needed a camera up her bottom - it took the hospital several enemas and fasting to get things clear enough for them to be able to see intestine wall)

I use a persisteen (like a mini colonic that can do myself) every other day to help me go, alongside multiple laxatives. Otherwise I can't go.

I had it done once about 10 years ago out of curiosity. It was no good at all. I have never had bowl trouble and our bowels eliminate what they need to do anyway in the ordinary course of events so it did not have any impact on me at all.

If you're suffering with your bowels and seeking help, I would recommend taking a daily probitic. I have IBS and this has helped me immensely.

There's no way anyone's shoving a hosepipe up my back passage!

I have carried out CI for 7-8 years now and did my last one a few weeks ago. I have never perforated any ones bowels or given any one an infection. The tubes are all single use disposable the machine is didnfected between clients and the water is under very low pressure. Some people find the treatement a little uncomfortable like a period pain.
The benefits are questionable. Some people found it a complete life saver. It can help with constipation and IBS. However other people felt no different after. It horses for courses.

I have had it years ago in my 20s We all did it and it did make me very skinny looking for a few days and a bit of a energised feeling but nothing for my eyes or skin or anything.

As an alternative to an Oxfam voucher for a goat a colonic irrigation from a woman to her son-in-law is quite a present!

I cannot in a million years imagine my mother deciding to give DP a colonic irrigation experience. Except in some mastepiece of passive aggression, perhaps.

I do suffer a bit with bowels. Have been on trips to well-known D&V hotspots and had crippling constipation while all around me people were succumbing to Delhi belly

People who have had any 'fight or flight' experience, ordeal or survived something which they felt nervous about beforehand often have a wide-eyed look and a feeling of euphoria that it is over.

I suspect a lot of placebo effect following colonic irrigation. And what ritualistic or metaphorical resonance it has.

Worth wondering where this need to feel 'cleansed' comes from, too. I wonder how many men compared to women sign up for colonic irrigation?

I've seen the inside of a lot of bowels, and unless you have diverticulosis, there is just nowhere for anything to build up or get 'stuck'.

If you want clear skin and sparkly eyes, then don't drink alcohol, drink plenty of water/green tea, and eat more veggies/fruit and less junk/processed food. You don't need to pay anyone for that!

Good decision :) some of the benefits may be devised simply through the aftercare you are instructed to do. Lots of water, no alcohol, probiotics. You would probably feel brighter after that alone minus the bum wash.

I felt simply marvellous, darling, after a month long cricket tour of a hot and humid australia but all we did was drink beer and have lots of parties with the oppo. Much more fun!

The inside of your colon is smooth and muscular. It is simply not possible for any faecal matter to "build up"
