I am a tongue ignoramus; I know nothing about them

But underneath there is a join-y bit & either side a lumpy bit

One of my lumpy bits has an ulcer the size of a ....oh hell I don't know maybe 6mm across

You see? I need vocabulary

I'm not sure I can go to the doctor; I just get ulcers

But I'm a pedant and I need the words Blush I know it's a bit sad

OP posts:
LineRunner · 02/03/2013 21:43

It could be a [enlarged] salivary gland.

KatyMac · 02/03/2013 21:46

It feel a bit like a skin tag, sort of swaying from side to side

It's very white so I think (esp with my history) it's an ulcer rather than anything else but it does bleed a little bit

Do you mean the bits that look like spiky hairy things?
I had ulcers on mine last summer and it HURT SO MUCH. You have my deepest sympathies Sad. I looked into it and found a pic with someone with that problem - ill try and find it. Mine were small and white and I had four or five. I resorted to sqeezing the tiny bit of puss out and rinsing with salt water. It gave some relief. They re filled but all over in about a week.
Sorry for the TMI hope you get better soon.

Fucking hell I had this last week and it bloody hurt!

I brought some Oraldene and gargled with it twice a day - it cleared up quickly.

bonzo77 · 02/03/2013 22:14

The cord thing is the lingual fraenum. The bumps are orafices to sublingual salivary glands. Can't remember what the frilly bits are called, but they are delicate and prone to trauma and irritation.

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 02/03/2013 22:17

I can tell you my frilly bits were certainly traumatised.

MortaIWombat · 02/03/2013 22:53

They are fimbriae.

KatyMac · 03/03/2013 11:45

Is that Musttidyup's or mine?

OP posts:
KatyMac · 03/03/2013 13:16

Actually I may have to reconsider the GP - it's getting bigger & I'm slurring my words as my tongue is a bit challenged

frogspoon · 03/03/2013 21:13

Go suck a lemon

(no seriously, it triggers production of saliva and may help push the stone out)

KatyMac · 03/03/2013 21:27

I suppose it might be a stone - there isn't a lump tho'

I had lemon meringue pie for tea....does that count? Wink
