Lipo/tummy tuck. Any one admit to having one??

Thinking again about having one. Last year I got as far as a consultation and bottled out. Two huge pregnancies and two lots of abdominal surgery have left me with an v. big and unattactive over hang!!!
Tried dieting and it comes off every where else. I'm a completly lazy mare except for lots of swimming and this doesn't seem to help at all.
So is it a quick fix? does it last? What are the results like. can any one tell me?

My mum had one, absolute waste of money because she didn't change her diet/lifestyle so now no-one would ever be able to tell she had it done. But, it was her money.

Imagine it would give the appearance of a flatter stomach if you also did watch your weight etc. But the scaring would be a concern for me.

Twinkie · 20/01/2004 10:14

ooooh I would rather have a face lift - get that soo pretty that they won't look down

Tummy Tuck is one thing I would steer clear of and lipo - I have been watching all the programmes (in prep for my nose job) and it looks really painful and so many of the ones that seem to go wrong go really really wrong.

As for it being a quick fix - not sure the scarring looks bad and to me I would rather have a saggy tummy than a big scar - some of the go from hip bone to hip bone and look really scarey!!

Tinker · 20/01/2004 10:16

Meant 'scarring' but 'scaring' might be more apt after all

Mumski · 20/01/2004 10:23

Well I've got a hip to hip scar anyway from ab surgery so they could just'run along the dotted line'!!!!

I know a very famous ageing actress who had a tummy tuck in hollywood which went TERRIBLY wrong, and she now has horrendous scarring. Has been using body doubles for even the most basic swimsuit scene for 15 years now.
Pissed the director of her next film off - he hired her to play a stripper, she had the tummy tuck, then turned up on set refusing to take her clothes off!
Think it is v risky.

zebra · 20/01/2004 11:04

That sounds like Demi Moore... who else has played a stripper?

Twinkie · 20/01/2004 11:08

My first thought too tinker!!

She can't get rid of those saggy knees though

Twinkie · 20/01/2004 11:09

Sorry Zebra!!

sykes · 20/01/2004 11:09

One of my friends had one post twins - v large twins as well nearly 8lb each or something ridiculous. She's a ski instructor and generally very fit and slim but was left with dreadful overhang despite a massive attempt to tone etc up. She's pleased with the results (looks SO much better) but keeps up her own work out things too.

Mumski · 22/01/2004 13:16

I can't believe no one out there has 1st hand experience. Come on girls own up.
I think your right though Tinker, if you still continue to stuff your self it will soon go back on.

dis h it pph

Liz hurley had one at the same time as her cs

Blu · 22/01/2004 13:48

Mumski, it can be even worse than just putting the flab back on. Apparantly, when we gain weight, it isn't because we grow more fat cells, it's because the fat cells we have get bigger. If you remove fat cells, and then continue to put weight on, cells in other parts of the body have to take the strain. One woman who had thighs and tummy lipo-d developed a huge fatty hump between her shoulder blades!

Mumski · 22/01/2004 13:53

Sykes - I've got such bad manners. I wanted to ask you how you are now. You were so helpful and kind when I was having problems with dh last year. You were right things take along time to resolve. Are things any easier for you?

honeybunny · 22/01/2004 14:06

My dh anaesthetises for plenty of abdominoplasties. Dont need one myself, so no personal experience there. He has a few horror stories to tell about those that go wrong... usually post op infections on obese patients who have their "apron fat" removed. That's when your tummy hangs down beyond your knees and affects your ability to walk! The incision line is huge so no bikini wearing after. I'll ask him about the average results.

honeybunny · 22/01/2004 14:11

I very much doubt whether Liz Hurley did have an abdominoplasty at her CS, sounds like "Heat" having a field day with that one!

aloha · 22/01/2004 14:18

A tummy tuck is a big operation - and no I haven't had one as anyone who has seen me would testify to! I write about cosmetic surgery and have interviewed a couple of women who've had it after having children. The scar is a scoop shape so it fits under bikini bottoms fine and isn't that noticeable but still, obviously, visible. There are about eight weeks of basic recovery, and you have to wear an elastic corsety thing. But both the women I interviewed were totally thrilled with the result and it did change their life for the better. All surgery carries risk, primarily from the anaesthetic. If you want the op be careful with your surgeon. Don't just answer an ad in a magazine.

sykes · 22/01/2004 14:23

Thanks, Mumski, glad things are good for you. Me, not so good, have hit another very bad patch - girls incredibly upset (particularly elder dd - why aren't you a REAL daddy, I hate you etc, etc, followed by copious amounts of tears and pleas for him to come home)and, pathetically, so am I. He's bought a flat with his gf so I just have to try and get on with things and make sure the girls are as happy as possible.

motherinferior · 22/01/2004 14:56

Sykes, hugs to you.

HB, rumour has it that quite a few celebs get a double C-section/tummy tuck.

Would be scared myself...

codswallop · 22/01/2004 15:03

Honey..Heat Lie? never...

Northerner · 22/01/2004 15:06

My SIL had her ds at The Portland a couple of weeks after Posh had Brooklyn. Rumours where RIFE that she had a tuck after her c section.

oliveoil · 22/01/2004 15:11

I think it is a bit mean of people to assume that celebrities are too posh to push and are so vain that they will have tummy tucks etc at the same time. I had a section for a valid reason, why can't they as well.

Are am I naive? (sp?)

Mermaid2 · 22/01/2004 15:30

I would definately consider one. I am now back down to a size 10 but my tummy has a disgusting overhang that I cannot seem to get rid of no matter what I try. Had an emergency caesarian which had a lot to do with it but that was nearly six months ago and my tummy is in a bad way. I am put off having operation because of the complications which can arise i.e. infections.

Re. celebs, how on earth do they get their figures back so quickly, Posh was in skin tight jeans about 2 weeks after birth. Surely it can't just be exercise.....

oliveoil · 22/01/2004 15:36

Posh is naturally slim and also has naturally perky boobs

Northerner · 22/01/2004 15:52

and her hair is naturally long and glossy, her lips are naturally full and pouty, her teeth naturally white and straight ..............

Northerner · 22/01/2004 15:53

natural tan direct from St Tropez ..........
