hi, seems a silly question, but im curious as to how much other kids drink.

my ds 18months hasnt had milk since 5months old due to milk allergy and has always drank loads of water. i posted before about him drinking 5pints of water a day. since then the paeditrician has booked up hospital next week for 'water deprivation' testing for diabetes insipidus. im dreading it and still wondering if its habit. a week ago i threw the bottles away and changed to a beaker, thinking if it was habit he'd scream for a week from missing the bottle and thatd be the end of it.

hes now down to about 3pints in a 24hour period. i measure what he drinks from the morning till the next morning as he drinks 3/4 times in the night. ive found him worse at night since the bottles went. its roughly 20oz to a pint if that helps.thankyou for anyone that can be bothered to add their kids intake upGrin

ah allie, how are you today, done any packing yet? luke had his eyes tested, theyre perfect thank goodness, no glasses for him then, ruin his look.

i hate taking him to town now, he wants so many clothes and i have to say no!he wants an image change now, gone are the jog bottoms, tshirts, trainers. he now WANTS trendy jeans, smart shirts and these white trainer sort of things that all the kids are wearing

Hi 7Up, sorry to hear that you are understanably worried about your ds. I'm presuming that he has been tested for diabetes type 1, and heres a website that may interest you (or may not, I'm no expert!): The Diabetes Insipidus Foundation, Inc. (Sorry can't do links)

You are right about the childrens wards being a depressing place, but try to make it into an adventure and take plenty of toys etc. Perhaps even buy a couple of new ones if you can to surprise him with.

My DD1 is diabetic (type 1 insulin dependant) and DD2 has been drinking a lot lately too, though as yet is not diabetic. It is very worrying and the lack of sleep won't be helping you. At the moment I am getting up twice in the night to check my dd sugar levels and its getting very draining.

I presume you didn't track down the other poster whose child was showing similar signs, thats a shame.

Still, keep smiling, things could be worse, and fingers crossed for a good outcome at the hospital.

hiya lillypink, the other poster was nulnulcat and her dd had the same test my ds got to have. ive been hunting for her on here for over 3weeks and shes disappeared!

dont know if ds was tested for type1 or not, he prob has been, hes had so many blood tests done.

sorry about your stress with dd, must be awful for you. im hoping that the test will be negative and then at least i can get tough with the drinking and perhaps in the end get a good nights sleepSmile
