God am so fed up. Day 10 of some filthy flu type virus and am still ill. The DCs and DH are over it but I am now sufferibg from a secondary throat and sinus infection. I hane lost about half a stone as just can't face food. Also occasionally vomiting, usually after a coughing fit.

Am now on ABs and hoping infection clears soon but still got a splitting headache, temperature etc.

Anyone else had this? I thought I would be over it by now. Have got tons to do, boss not happy as am still off work.

This really is the virus from hell.

I think I must be on day 10. A week last sun felt a bit rough. Came home from work early on the Monday, by 10pm that night I had a raging temp and horrible sore throat, but was shivering.
Felt like i was getting over that on Thurs so did some stuff I'd arranged to do and went to school concert. Spent from 10pm thurs to 2am Sat running to the loo every 5 mins and horrible griping pains. All the while my throat and neck were still sore and swollen, and wheezing to breathe.
Sat again I thought I was on the mend, then sunday spent the afternoon in bed out of it.
I am self employed and december is usually a short enough month money wise as it is, so losing a week's pay is a disaster. Luckily my monday client set me up with a link to work from home and said I can do a couple of hours from home per day this week while its quiet before xmas.

I am supposed to be going for a curry tomorrow evening with some other self employed's for our xmas night out... think I'll be sticking to naans and plain rice.

My ds2 (4) has been ill for 6 weeks now.
Am so fed up of the gp saying there is nothing more we can do for him.
A hard to see him suffer :(
He has had...awful awful cough, temps, runny nose, aching limbs, night sweats, loss of appetite.
Poor baby :(

nellyjelly · 20/12/2012 08:34

Aw your poor lad.

I woke up this morni g absolutely soaked through with sweat. Nice. Was hoping to feel better by now but still wiped out. Can't stop sleeping.

:( hope you feel better soon x

Tinkerisdead · 20/12/2012 08:41

Ive been ill with it for four weeks. Started with sore throat, fever, chills etc and i couldnt walk to the loo i just crawled along. Had a really dry rasping cough and couldnt breathe for two weeks. This weeks its turned into pure slime and im just hacking it up all the time. Last night i had stomach cramps and sickness as well as chills again.

I just had a big chat with dh as we're meant to be hosting in-laws for xmas and said im just not up to it. He was less than sympathetic saying im just trying to talk myself out of it! If it was just us for xmas i'd stay in my dressing gown and buy the whole meal in foil trays.

nellyjelly · 20/12/2012 09:17

Yes we have to drive 250 mls for xmas. I really don't want to go.

We have had a nightmare since beg of oct this year-all 4 dcs constantly ill sore throat, cough,v high temps,earache.ds1 and dd2 have had 3 courses of antibiotics since then and ds2 2 courses.only dd1 has managed without (she's the oldest).dd2 currently on abs but ds1 and 2 really ill going to gp for 3rd time this week today after they keep saying its just a virus-you think they would trust me when I say I can tell the dcs need AB?? If they have a virus /cold its over in a week and temps never get as high, last week dd2 was seen 4 times at our gp got so ill at weekend we had to go to out of hours and they were shocked at how bad her throat was asked why had we not taken her sooner!?!
Dh has had a bad cough, pain, shivering and temp for 2 weeks and has lost a huge amount of weight.
I have. Completely avoided all the viruses/infections and was feeling very proud of myself untill I came down with the worst uti imaginable and have been severly ill for last couple of daysSad
Panicking too as house a complete tip and have not done xmas wrapping yet but we are all so ill.

Badvocsanta · 20/12/2012 09:24

That sounds from doctors wife :(
Don't have people over or do, but you spend the day in bed and your dh can entertain them!
They won't thank you if they become ill too.
Hope you feel better soon x
My view if Xmas is now that what gets done gets done and what doesn't we will do without!
Will send dh to shops Xmas eve to get last bits of food.
Luckily all gifts and cards were done by end of nov so that's something I dint have to stress about.
It's been a really rough coupe of weeks here, not only ds2 but my mum too.
Will be glad when it's over :(

Well i'm looking forward to a mass clear out in january. Ive got crap everywhere (outgrown baby clothes, cot, toys, maternity wear) and xmas will just bring more i'm sure. In jan we're gonna clear every room including the loft. Sell what i can and start the year afresh.

So i need to get well!

nellyjelly · 20/12/2012 16:16

Aw threetomatoes, it will soon be spring.

I actually don't mind winter but mind feeling ill!

Day two or three for me (but day 1 properly I think) Felt awful yesterday but went to dd's bowling birthday party. Came home coughing a bit and woke up this morning feeling like absolute hell. I can't bear the thought of it going on for weeks Shock

Mockingcurl · 21/12/2012 13:07

I had this, it's awful. I don't normally get ill. It lasted a good ten days and I stayed in bed throughout. You have my sympathy.

Tinkerisdead · 21/12/2012 13:36

Well i feel better in myself but the cough is still holding fast. If i speak i just launch into a coughing fit.

And i kind if agree that i'd feel just as crap in the summer but in the summer i'm not thinking i need to brave the shops, i want to enjoy my xmas dinner, i want to be alert for the kids. In the summer i could order online no question and eat toast without qualms. Waaaahhhh i wanna be able to breathe through my xmas dinner sob.

Perriwinkle · 21/12/2012 18:23

In a weird way I feel comforted by reading your tales of woe knowing that I'm not the only one suffering with this awful bug. Mine started just over a week ago with awful aching all over and the most awful sore throat and then the constant sneezing, pounding headache and earache started, together with feeling sick and generally zapped of all energy. Took to bed straightaway and called in sick to work. Then I became totally stuffed up in the sinuses and developed a hideous dry rasping cough, all sense of taste and smell disappeared too. Then, finally, to really add insult to injury I pulled a muscle around my rib area coughing and now my whole body is racked with pain every time I have a coughing fit. It's much worse at night as you don't really know what you're doing when you're semi conscious so forget to try and hold yourself in a position where it might not hurt as much! Consequently, find myself waking up every time I have a coughing fit so am averaging about 3 fitful hours of sleep a night! I usually end up propping myself up and dozing between coughing fits and end up witha crick in the neck - well, when I feel this bad, what's another pain to add to all the others eh? My cough has now finally become a bit more productive but not much more. I can't believe I might have another 2 weeks of this torture to go - the lack of refreshing sleep alone is more than I can take! I've been living off Nurofen and got some Lemsip cough syrup today which tastes godawful but I'm hopeful it might help me get some sleep. Tuesday is fast approaching and given the slow progess I've made so far I'm not hopeful that I will even fancy my Christmas dinner, let alone be able to smell or taste it Xmas Sad. Damn this bloody virus.

nellyjelly · 21/12/2012 20:16

Yep damn it to hell.

Felt I was improving but today ventured out and suffered for it all afternoon. Raging headache, high temps and aching all over. Had been throwing up a bit this morning too.

I am so fed up. Got tons to do.

Badvocsanta · 21/12/2012 22:00

Ugh.
Stomach cramps and nausea now.
Cosmic.

nellyjelly · 21/12/2012 22:22

I can't keep food down at the moment so maybe the cramps and nausea is part of it.

OP posts:
Badvocsanta · 21/12/2012 22:24

Oh nelly poor you :(

Tinkerisdead · 22/12/2012 08:06

I felt like that, cramps and nausea but i wasnt massively sick so i dont think it was norovirus i really feltblikevit was just another string to the bow of this fucker thats wiped me out for a month.

I think i may have a chest infection now. Dh helpfully says maybe you should go to the gp. Hmmm along with every other person in the whole town trying to get well for xmas!

nellyjelly · 22/12/2012 08:12

Yes same here. Sick but don't think is novo. I believe that is shortlived.

I had to change my PJs twice in the night. Was totally soaked through with sweat.

Hope others feeling better.
