Shiny new thread

OP posts:
Gigondas · 11/01/2013 14:02

If you can ring your unit I would first just to confirm- that's what I did to get ok on paracetamol

Gigondas · 11/01/2013 14:03

Celebrity chefs is whole category on its own.

James Martin , Anthony Worral Thompson, ainsley Herriot, that shifty short Italian one... The list goes on.

Robert Pattinson is another of my celeb spots whilst walking the dog. I wondered in the back of my mind why a bunch of hoorays (red cords, green quilted jackets) were talking to a tramp (fatigues and nasty dirty green baseball cap) It wasn't until I walked past on the way back I realised it was Robert Pattinson, very unprepossessing, weedy, pasty looking, charisma free zone not a patch on Colin

Sometimesiwonder · 11/01/2013 14:34

bloody hell Copthall, where are you seeing all these so called 'celebs' while walking the dog??

I suppose I am guessing 'Copthall' (I'm clever that way) but I don't know where that is Grin

Gig - true, true. Celeb chefs are all vile, except for Hugh FW who I find strangely appealing

Copthallresident · 11/01/2013 14:46

gigs and I live in Twickenham. Robert Pattinson was outside a pub on the river but best dog walking celeb spotting is in Richmond Park where goon dog jumped up at no less than Colin Firth who was out running thrilled to discover someone I haven't already bored about my encounter with Colin Grin

I just googled the Pattinson because I remembered there were pictures in the papers of him in 'orrible hat last Christmas, only to discover he was out and about in it again this Christmas. See what I mean? Ugh perezhilton.com/2012-12-26-robert-pattinson-spotted-london-pub-the-sun-inn-not-spending-christmas-with-kristen-stewart#.UPAjZm9Wx8E

KurriKurri · 11/01/2013 14:54

Copt - that is so sad about your friend, and absolutely the case, bowel cancer is often very much a taboo cancer even now. (Actually sometimes just cancer is a taboo subject - people don't want to know, I know one poor woman who has breast cancer and her mother won't tell anyone, and wouldn't let her DD visit when she had no hair, because people would guess Sad)

Very good article, - but poor lad, horrible to be so ill, so young.

AtoZ - I echo Gig, - paracetamol fine, but make sure you don't have a temp first. Also are you drinking plenty? (easy to forget when you are tired and nauseous) - dehydration will give you a headache.

Lesley Garrett - awful woman, we call her the flycatcher because she's always got her mouth open yapping.

I don't know who Robert Pattinson is Blush - I am a bit useless at celebs really.
Celeb chefs are indeed almost all vile, but I do have a soft spot for Nigel Slater.

Sometimesiwonder · 11/01/2013 15:09

Ah yes Nigel S is rather lovely.

Twickenham eh? If my mother had spotted Colin Firth out running she would probably have passed out with excitement old lech. I'd better keep her well clear. Round our way (Coventry) if we see Nick Owen we come over all starstruck.

KK- Robert P is the one in Twilight, not that I've ever watched it, but he's always in Heat magazine which I like for the funny captions they put on the pictures. One day I really should make an effort to grow up Hmm

Gigondas · 11/01/2013 15:32

It is very sad copthall when it could have been discussed and agree that there is a lot of dont talk about Cancer. On related themes I am thinking of getting my genes checked as there is a family history and they are finding not just that you are more susceptible but also can target treatments if have certain gene coding.

On celeb spot have rob brydon Keeley hawes her dh (Matthew something?) and the bloke on not going out.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 11/01/2013 16:01

Ooh talking of celeb gossip - I was reading a mag (Red or something???) in the Dentist this week, and there was an article about Cat Deeley - she's married to Patrick Kielty - who knew? - not me.

Nick Owen was on the news the other night Sometimes - he was related to that very old gentleman who died the other day (I think he was 110) he was saying what a lovely old chap he was.

overthemill · 11/01/2013 16:49

celeb spotting: james nesbitt when on holiday in paxos a couple of years ago. he was renting a house we were in cheapo apartment. he was always standing around looking pensive. his kids were there too.

at the airport on the way, i asked someone off blue peter if he was leaving s i could jump on his table at he cafe. mortified the kids - i still have no idea who is is/was but was very very polite.

when i lived in london i regularly saw 'celebs' as you call them now!

i have booked a treat! 3 nights in bruges at half term for all the family. Muchly looking forward to it. hurray! about to keel over though now as teh steroids wear off! I know the next week will be grim but IT IS THE LAST TIME Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/01/2013 17:17

yep-agree with the ringing unit to check on paracetamol- I did and it was ok.
The only 2 clebs spotted in my town are Alan Titchmarsh (ewww) and Sarah Parrish (from various tv things) many more when we lived in London.
Alan T was sitting opposite me in the doctor's waiting room once- he had a manbag.

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/01/2013 17:19

otm Paxos is very lovely- I went there when my brother was teaching sailing - the sea was crystal clear...we were in Lakka. Didn't see anyone famous though.

Copthallresident · 11/01/2013 17:23

It was so very very sad because my friend had lived most of her life with a real dread she would die young, we had talked about it often since we first met at uni. She wasn't planning a 40th birthday party because that was the last memory she had of her Mum healthy and she didn't want to give History a chance to repeat itself. It wasn't as if she wasn't really on the look out for any sign of problems. It felt totally unreal when she rang a few weeks short of that birthday to say that a routine blood test had shown her liver was failing. Yet it would have been so easy to avoid the same fate armed with a little knowledge. Instead her illness was short and horribly brutal, one blow after another. I was very angry about Cancer long before my dx. The only positive was that she said she probably wouldn't have had children if she had known she was handing down a 50% chance of their having the gene.

Thankfully now the circle will be broken, her children and sister have yearly checks. Her son, who is an absolute all round star and in the training squad for England teens Rugby (which she would really have laughed about because she was such a skinny minny), has already had polyps removed. At least they will escape what happened to that writer

gigs DON'T forget grumpy Nick Frost. He was outside that Mambo Coffee place this afternoon giving evils to anyone who dared to inadvertently recognise him, even though I am sure no one has heard of him!!

Copthallresident · 11/01/2013 17:31

I just want to add one more celeb spot because he deserves to be known for his heroic fabulousness. Douglas Hodge successfully gave my friend CPR when he collapsed on holiday in Italy. He was with his wife, the actress who played Raquel in Only Fools and Horses, who was equally a star keeping his wife comforted. Both should be totally immune from any pet hate lists. Proper really nice people. He was absolutely brilliant in La Cages aux Folles too.

Sometimesiwonder · 11/01/2013 18:51

AW, fair play to them , then!

Last celeb I saw was in Cyprus last year - Dev from Corrie. He was proper nice, too - though he wasn't called on to save anyone's life, I don't think, so he probably doesn't measure up. But it's the best I've got Grin

Is anyone else absolutely gagging for the clock to spin round to beer o'clock tonight? I've got nearly an hour to go before we can go to the pub and my tongue is hanging out. But then I am an old lush

PenisColada · 11/01/2013 18:53

I saw Chris Moyles when I was walking the dogs a few weeks ago.

PenisColada · 11/01/2013 19:00

cop what supplements do you take ? I always was very lentil weavery anyway (I may or may not have met swampy in my yoof) and buy organic as much as possible / drink green tea etc.

I have not had any alcohol since dx as I just don't feel like it and my liver will have anaesthetic / opiates to deal with soon.

I have not replied to my friend and won't till after surgery. Hopefully she will get the hint !

Sometimesiwonder · 11/01/2013 19:00

Did he look grubby and unpredictable, like he does in photos?

I'vr just had a text, everyone's in the pub but me. I think I'll head off without DH and dd. So g'night all.

But it's great to be back, I missed you guys. x

Gigondas · 11/01/2013 19:03

Propolis and Manuka honey- for immunity
A pro green supplement for immunity
Vitamin d
Magnesium- to aid sleep
Aloe Vera- helps digestion

OP posts:
Gigondas · 11/01/2013 19:05

And yes I want wine but dh out on lash with dsis (for what she describes as a cheeky pint but what normal people would call a session). Therefore I have to get up to get wine and I am too tired having wrestled the gigs to bed.

Spoke to specialist nurse who was ace. That is very sad about your poor friend - esp as you say the colon screening is now become very good indeed.

OP posts:
PenisColada · 11/01/2013 19:27

Swampy was just short and we were protesting / at festivals so we were all very grubby I expect. He was no more so than the rest of us !

My plan is to go to the health shop tomorrow and get some manuka honey as dc are always picking up colds / bugs from school and I really don't want them. I take berroca and cod liver oil / evening primrose oil daily as well. Is arnica worthwhile for post op ? Some oil for the scar would be good as well.

Any tips on diet / supps very much appreciated thanks.

Gigondas · 11/01/2013 19:30

Protein very important post op as part of recovery - also tons of water

OP posts:
AtoZandbackagain · 11/01/2013 20:16

Am drinking gallons!

Can any old hands at chemo tell me if they experienced what I am now experiencing:

Headache.
Pressure in my ears.
Eyes sore.

Eustachian tubes blocked - ears clicking.
Extreme burping and flatulence - both ends, constantly!
Had to lie down for 2 hours.

(on just Day 5 so God knows how I'll get through to the end of this)

Gigondas · 11/01/2013 20:19

Tiredness, flatulence and upset stomach, runny nose - yes.

OP posts:
AtoZandbackagain · 11/01/2013 20:21

Thanks for replying Gigs.

All this is so new to me I'm terrified.
