Well thats about it really, dd is coming up in a blister type rash, particularly on neck, back, behind ears and one on her head. My mum doesn't think it looks like chickenbox in that the blisters are turning to scabs quite quickly, other than that they are definately blisters with yellow head that change into an open type sore.
The reason scabies comes into the equation is that it has been going round at school (not her year). I have had a look on google but need some personal experiences please particulalrly of scabies, as i'm drawing a blank, cheers in advancwe people.

how quickly is it scabbing? it sounds like chicken pox to me

Twiglett · 06/04/2006 19:29

I thought scabies was a stress reaction that happened if you have previously had c pox

mesenfantsmaman · 06/04/2006 19:30

scabies are a parasite twig, um scabbing after a day, spotted one last night but honestly didn't think anything of it, scab today, but kind of more like a sore

starlover · 06/04/2006 19:31

i just googled it and it says face and neck are not usually affected with scabies

also, the pics look like it's a smaller rash but more spots iyswim?

jabberwocky · 06/04/2006 19:31

We thought at one time that ds had scabies. I never was entirely sure but we did use tea tree oil on it, which was recommended on a website.

mrstootough · 06/04/2006 19:31

Scabies is more like red pin prick rash especially between fingers. They do not blister. We had an outbreak of scabies a few years ago in the nursing home I worked in. Hope this helps.

colditz · 06/04/2006 19:31

twiglett, that's shingles.

Scabies is a mite that burrows under the skin and causes and insanely itchy rash.

Most likely to crop up on the shoulders, hands and inner elbows. You can treat it with nit lotion.

gomez · 06/04/2006 19:32

Isn't scabies - scabies is an under the skin prickly rash caused by a mite. Places like elbows, wrists etc.

Could be urticria-type rash which blisters and some can then sort of scab over really quickly - within hours really.

starlover · 06/04/2006 19:32

it definitely sounds like chicken pox to me

mesenfantsmaman · 06/04/2006 19:32

cheers Starlover, loads on the neck and one on head and one face so perhaps not scabies, phew. I have some teatree jabberwocky so I'm already stocked up Grin

urticaria is an allergic rash, aka nettle rash. It is red and blistery too, not usually accompanied but illness, and an antihisimine will clear it up, usually.

colditz · 06/04/2006 19:37

Smileyou're welcome.

starlover · 06/04/2006 19:37

if you're really unsure then take her to the doctors... don't treat it without being sure of what it is

gomez · 06/04/2006 19:39

A generic term for a skin reaction - can commonly be caused by an allergy but may also be a reaction to a virus.

I only mention it as DD2 had the beginnings of what we thought was chickenpox - started with distinct spots/blisters but overnight they joined up and formed a nettle-rash type thingy! They scabbed over quickly and then cleared up within about 2/3 days in each location but new crops popped up each day. So for example Monday it was her groin/thighs, Tuesday her tummy/chest, Wednesday her face/neck etc. GP said it ws urticria. About 2/3 weeks later she had another bought of the same but nothing since unlikely to be allergy related in that case but may be her reacting to a viral infection.

Sorry for the essay it is difficult to describe.

mesenfantsmaman · 06/04/2006 19:42

Could very well be that too Gomez, kind of like hives I guess?
I will do the gp thing in the morning, her twin is unwell temp etc but no spots so whatever it is could be doing the rounds oh joys!

Thanks people, I feel better in that i'm pretty certain it isn't scabies, its not that I'm snobby or yukky about it, but all six of us would need to be treated which would be a right PITA

mesenfantsmaman · 06/04/2006 19:44

BTW Colditz she has definately been a bit off ,but not ill as such so maybe not Urtica< I guess the only way to find out will be after an hour wait at the docs with four kids tomorrow!!

OP posts:
gomez · 06/04/2006 19:44

If she is old enough (>12 months) then some Piriton would help with any itching she might have.

Hope you don't have too bad a night!

gomez · 06/04/2006 19:45

Oops meant to add the DD (21 months at the time) hadn't really been ill, just a bit grumbly like she was brewing something and tired.

mesenfantsmaman · 06/04/2006 19:46

Thanks, i may have some somewhere, she hasn't complained of itchiness yet so fingers crossed for tonight. Been into london today before i realised she was ill so we are all a bit on the tired side Smile
