its me again moaning about those verrucas

after the painful acid treatment which left me practically disabled...(no exaggeration - i had to come out of uniform and then the funny walking put my back out....) but .they are still there Sad
bad as ever. (all 30 of them)
massive.
and wont budge.

the podiatrist called me the other day to ask how they were....i should have just handed the phone to chief verruca and he could have answered for himself....

now they want to do "needling" - apparently they inject a local into the foot and dig about with a big needle to try and promote the bodys immune response....

it costs over £120.....

verdicts please. my feet have been taken over. (i wont link to the gore again but its bad....)

Sad (in the absence of a leper emoticon.)

That is one impressive VP.

They can take 15-20 years to clear up! Confused

Well done for getting the blood test to check immunity as that is the first thing that I would have sent you for. GPs dont give them a particularly high priority as they are rarely fatal! Grin

My DW had a persistant bugger on her heel, just the one and nothing like the size of yours but it wouldnt shift so after 8 years of suffering I decided to try something a bit different and treat it it Salactol and Silver Nitrate, alternating every other day and after 2 months it finally dissappeared.

If you get rid of the major 'mother' VP then the chances are the rest will slowly die off. But I think you may well never get shot of a VP that size. All the old wives tales and remedies very rarely work............... in fact most of the medically approves treatments rarely work. A clinical study years ago took 500 people with verruca and gave half various types of treatment from surgery to homeopathy to acid and freezing and the other half had no treatment at all. after 5 years they were all surveyed again and they found that the 250 that had had no treatment had fewer verruca than the 250 that had been treated!! Go figure that one.

Where do you live? You may be able to find a kindly Chiro/Foothealth Pro that will take pity and see you as a project/challenge and treat you for free/cheaply. I would.

Good luck.

i live in Yorkshire balotelli
im not sure what tests were done on my bloods - the gp said she didnt want to test me "unnecessarily" so the bloods i had done in April were for something else...but she said they had come back normal so there was no need to get them redone.

really - you think im stuck with it for life? oh my god....

it pisses me off. and it hurts. Sad

I had loads of the things when I was a child- liquid nitrogen failed, and then I got prescribed femeldahyde solution- I had to bathe my feet every night. Think it was an acidic thing- not sure if it worked or they just disappeared themselves but thought it was worth a mention.

SufferingLampreys · 08/11/2012 21:47

I had to skin dss with a scalpel before digging it out as much as possible . It was strangely satisfying Blush

Cailleach · 09/11/2012 09:38

I'd agree with other posters that it looks like your immune system is not at full bore: not really surprising given the crap weather we've had this year (lack of sunlight on your skin = low Vitamin D3 production = poor immune function.)

I really would go back to the docs and ask for immune system tests, and get your levels of D checked - I can all but guarantee you'll be deficient.

Sausage Dog, formaldehyde is now know as a carcenogenic and so is not used in any treatments.... it may well cure your verruca but bugger that I'd rather have the verruca than cancer.

Suffering, I do it for a job and yes it is very strangely satisfying, digging corns and verruca out with a scalpel on a daily basis and getting paid for it is the best job ever. Until you get the patient with dementia who hasnt bathed or changed their socks for a couple of months....!

A mum in the playground recommended Lysine - it's a cold sore treatment from the health food shop. She swears that it rid her son of his verrucas in two weeks. She had previously done the chemist treatments and freezing to no avail.

I bought some yesterday (it's like vaseline) and am trying it.

workatemylife · 09/11/2012 12:39

Sorry if I missed something, but when I saw the 'needling' thing I thought you were talking about electrolysis. I had this for my outbreak of verruca / warts having tried all the chemical OTC treatments, bananas, vinegar blah blah blah and ended up with more! I had a big wart on one hand, a small one on the other, and a patch of verrucas under my feet. I found an electrolysis practitioner who was qualified for wart, skintag removal etc, and made an appointment. It stung a little, but after 3 sessions ALL the pesky blighters were gone. It cost a bit though - 50 quid for the first session, but less for the others. I loved the results - very slight scar with the big wart (skin is slightly white), but I'm now happy to wear sandals, swim, and shake hands Grin although if I catch another one from someone, maybe not the latter!

ThatVikRinA22 · 09/11/2012 14:44

the needling treatement the pod was recommending was just injecting with local and sticking a big needle in them to stimulate my own immune system - not electrolysis.

ive asked the GP for a blood test to check my immunity.

will report back when done.

Eeeeeeek, now panicking about femeldahyde being carcinogenic?! This was about 14 years ago when I used it. Can't really remember for how long for etc. argh!

flakjacket · 21/11/2012 14:12

The lysine is working....Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/11/2012 16:59

Vicar, please stop throwing money at this. It wont work.

The reason why your gp and I dont treat them is that the treatments dont work!

You really are just wasting money here.

As long as you have a stressfull job/homelife you will have these.

Please look at more holistic treatments for reducing stress.

Groovee · 22/11/2012 17:13

I'm still having problems with mine but they are no where near as big as yours. But they go black after the freezing treatment then go white again. I wish they'd bugger off

GoinCourtin · 23/11/2012 17:38

I would second the recomendation for trying tea tree oil.

I had a ton of veruccas which nothing would shift - I tried all the over the counter stuff, plus freezing them by a chiropodist. I only got rid of them with tea tree oil. Took about 3 weeks for them to go, which was nothing compared to the 7 odd years I had had them.

TheAccidentalExhibitionist · 23/11/2012 18:35

Pro advice? Go for the needling. It's more than triggering an immune response, it actually breaks the Verruca tissue down almost entirely. It's like electrocautery but less traumatic to the tissue.

It isn't available on the NHS because it requires specialist training and isnt an essential service. That doesn't mean that needling isn't good or effective. In fact it and plenty of evidence to show it works very effectively. No guarantee though, as with everything..

BTW you can't ask for money back if surgery doesn't work, medicine simply doesn't work this way.

TheAccidentalExhibitionist · 23/11/2012 18:48

Alternative solution, you could ask your GP to refer to a Podiatry training hospital, there are a few of them around.

Not sure where you live Vic but if you PM me your general location I can point you in the direction of your nearest one. They will probably offer you either electrocautery or needling.
I think you've got to the stage where you may want to look at those options unfortunately.

TheAccidentalExhibitionist · 23/11/2012 19:04

Vic, just noticed you posted saying you are Yorkshire, i suspect Durham would be your closest University Podiatry College.
