its me again moaning about those verrucas

after the painful acid treatment which left me practically disabled...(no exaggeration - i had to come out of uniform and then the funny walking put my back out....) but .they are still there Sad
bad as ever. (all 30 of them)
massive.
and wont budge.

the podiatrist called me the other day to ask how they were....i should have just handed the phone to chief verruca and he could have answered for himself....

now they want to do "needling" - apparently they inject a local into the foot and dig about with a big needle to try and promote the bodys immune response....

it costs over £120.....

verdicts please. my feet have been taken over. (i wont link to the gore again but its bad....)

Sad (in the absence of a leper emoticon.)

If you've reached the point where you're willing to give anything a go, mine went after I spat on the each day. Grim, but seemed to work for my blighters, who although nowhere near the size of yours had been with me for a good few years.

Also, this might be a really stupid question, but when they're not having acid lobbed on them or being poked and prodded, do they hurt? Like, to just walk on etc?

ThatVikRinA22 · 07/11/2012 13:16

the large one hurts to walk on because of where it is - the others dont. the podiatrist was treating the large one due to the pain it causes and the fact ive had it for 5 years.

he siad that if we could stimulate my bodies defences by treating one, the rest would go. The one being treated was the one that hurts and is also the largest.

the acid didnt work so he was now suggesting this "needling". but im sceptical tbh.
i think my verruca would survive a nuclear winter....

Sad No idea. Touch wood, I've not had one for years, otherwise I had them incessantly all through school.

CoteDAzur · 07/11/2012 13:19

Vicar Shock DD's verrucas packed and left after several treatments of liquid nitrogen (freezing) but they were nowhere near the size of yours. You have to get that removed. If nothing else works, you need to have it surgically removed.

EduCated · 07/11/2012 13:21

Have you tried going back to the GP? I can't believe they would refuse to treat this on the NHS Shock

CoteDAzur · 07/11/2012 13:22

Freezing them with liquid nitrogen didn't seem to hurt DD much (and she is a wailer) except for the several seconds of treatment itself.

ThatVikRinA22 · 07/11/2012 13:37

ive had several sessions with liquid nitrogen. its a burn - same as the acid.

ive had all those treatments done.

i went to GP and showed her the photo, she said my bloods had been normal in April and said best leave it with the podiatrist. Confused

its not going to go is it....its going to outlive me.

That sounds horrific, I had a giant verruca of doom for 6 years but at least it was only one and didn't hurt. Nobody suggested needling to me but I tried all the over-the-counter treatments, the GP used liquid nitrogen three times, I tried garlic, you name it. Mostly I was just mortified at wearing sandals (lived in a hot country at the time.) One of the nurses told me that generally, the treatments only work sometimes and they just leave of their own accord. I didn't take very kindly to that, but it did happen - I stopped thinking about them when I was moving abroad, and somehow they cleared up, after 6 1/2 years. But this was only one giant one and two small - given you're in pain you obviously can't just wait for them to go away. But don't lose hope!

NotInGuatemalaNowDrRopata · 07/11/2012 14:09

You poor, poor thing. I can't believe you're on your own with this, and for so long. There's nothing worse than sore feet.

I had a foot condition that required an op and saw one of the top foot doctors In the country (apparently). His name is Professor Mark Tagoe and he works privately and on NHS. I recommend him (based in London).

garlicbaguette · 07/11/2012 15:17

That was a VERY interesting link, shitmagnet. Can Vicar demand HPV vaccine, either from her GP or a GUM clinic?

garlicbaguette · 07/11/2012 15:23

We treated my childhood verruca rash with liquid that came in a bottle - some sort of acid or alkali, maybe? It's probably something you've already tried, Vicar, but I can't find out through googling: does anyone know what was used as a last resort in the UK in the 1960s?

SorrelForbes · 07/11/2012 15:28

I used to work in the same hospital as Prof Tagoe. Highly recommended.

I really think it's time for you to return to the GP and insist, nay demand, a referral to a consultant. Don't let them fob you off!

homeaway · 07/11/2012 15:28

Have you looked into using tea tree oil to treat them ?

garlicbaguette · 07/11/2012 15:43

Ok, found the childhood liquid - it was nitric acid. Apparently it can cause permanent neuralgia from nerve damage, no wonder it was a last resort!

Sorrel's advice looks v. sensible, Vicar.

QOD · 07/11/2012 18:19

Mine was just done by GP in minor op surgery at the dr surgery, he sent it off to path lab as "lesion removed from foot" - which I reckoned was a way round getting paid to remove it ..... I didn't care, I wanted it gone!

Speak to your Dr again OR another in the practice OR out of hours dr and claim you can't wait til the morning? Just to get another view on it,

I wore my height wedge heeled uggs today and its fine .... 5 days of agony, 2 of pain and now ... It's ok!

Oblomov · 07/11/2012 18:33

God Vicar, I thought QOD's was bad.

shutitweirdo · 07/11/2012 18:34

I had one for as long as i could remember on the ball of my foot. Nothing would get rid of it. I looked it up on google. Apple cider vinegar. Mine has gone and not returned. It took a while but it is very cheap (£1 a bottle). I soaked a cotton ball in it and taped it on overnight and after 3 days you could see it being drawn out,and I pumiced it off. You need a new cotton ball every night and soak your feet in it once a week. Like I said it takes a while but it really does work and it alot cheaper then a perscription from the doctor.

confuugled · 07/11/2012 18:41

Looks horrid. And sounds like it is good for the gp's budget if she can't sort out a chronic condition and has managed to get you to pay for your long term treatment

QOD · 07/11/2012 18:43

I could feel mine as I walked before I had it done, which is what made me want it treated, I do have to say, I'd never have one cut out again EVER but .... Now it doesn't hurt .... And if yours hurts to walk on .... It's worth the agony to have it hacked out

CoteDAzur · 07/11/2012 21:24

Suddenly, I'm really glad that I didn't listen to DD's paediatrician who said "Just leave it, they will go away on their own!

tuckingfits · 07/11/2012 23:07

Sounds awful. I've had a cluster of verrucas on the heel of my foot since at least 2006. I have been going to my GP since April to have it frozen with liquid nitrogen every two weeks. I also have to pumice it & use Occlusal liquid stuff in between times. Gp has been very positive that it will bugger off & die eventually, but now I've read all your comments I'm really wondering if it will ever go & leave me alone!

If I were you,Vicar,I'd go back & demand liquid nitrogen again. For as long as it takes. My GP says he had a patient he had to treat every two weeks for just over a year before their verruca gave up. Told me that about 3 months into my treatment so not as if he was making it up to make me feel better... I'm off to read that HPV link...

ThatVikRinA22 · 08/11/2012 01:00

yep that HPV link is very interesting - thank you for that.

i guess i just have to be more insistent at the GP and maybe go armed with the HPV info....

ive got to have an endoscopy first so i ll get that over with then go back ask that they do something with my gammy foot....

Vicar thaat looks really nasty.

Go back to your GP, take your shoes and socks off and show her/him.

You need a referal to Podiaty at your local hospital, there will be a team who can have a look and discuss findings / treatment.

Failing that try your local STI clinic - if they can burn warts of genitals I'm sure they can do something with feet.

At one hospital I worked at there was a free walk in poditrist clinic once a week, just for staff. The idea being that it was cheaper to keep people's feet in good condition than have them take time off.

I've never seen it elsewhere but really there should be something like that for any public servant who spends a lot of time on their feet. Do you think we should start a campaign?

ThatVikRinA22 · 08/11/2012 01:34

i wish!

tonight i worked an 9 hour shift with one 5 min break while i rushed in to the loo! no meal and an hour late off....i think if they dont care if we dont eat or get to a loo they aint gonna give a stuff about me and my feet....Sad

sad but true!

the really annoying thing is that i used to really look after my feet - i used to have pedicures but now im contagious i cant.
