Termination 8 weeks ago, still bleeding

stillhavingnightmares · 22/03/2006 17:28

I had a termination (the pill rather than surgical) 8 weeks ago, and I went straight onto microgynon.
The nurse told me the bleeding would stop near enough straight away

Its 8 weeks later and Ive bled heavily every day since. Some days its really heavy, (TMI) Ive had to change clothes and underwear a few times a day on occasions. Other days its light

Finally went back to the family planning clinic today and they have given me a number of a nurse Im to ring tomorrow. But she said it sounds worrying Sad

Anyone had a similiar experince? Or may know whats up with me?

P.S I am a regular but am changing my name to save any "why did you have an abortion then?" questions

Bleeding that long after is unusual for sure and you should see someone, I think there is a possibility of retained products with pills. Are you feeling physcially ok?
Might be worth buying some spatone iron supplement from Boots/ Health shops to boost your system.
FWIW with regard to terminations, I always found people on here to be incredibly sensitive about it, so pls do not fear being judged
Take care

Thanks girls, Im anaemic anyway but am not feeling especially tired.

I think Ill speak to the nurse tomorrow, she may have a better idea of whats wrong

Thank you, I know there are lovely ladies on here who wont judge me, but its something I tortured myself with and I dont want to think about it too much.

Was hoping it would be over by now

bundle · 22/03/2006 17:37

poor you, i hope you get some answers. no one will judge you Smile

bundle · 22/03/2006 17:38

{sorry that smilee looks a little insensitive, I just meant it in friendly manner..)

WideWebWitch · 22/03/2006 17:39

What about ringing the Brook advisory centre for some advice, they're very kind. Poor you, I'm not judging you.

spacedonkey · 22/03/2006 17:40

I'm not judging either. I really feel for you - having a termination is traumatic enough, but to still be suffering so long afterwards really is dreadful. Good luck with the nurse tomorrow - I hope it's something that can be sorted out quickly and easily x

motherinferior · 22/03/2006 17:41

I think it's worth getting checked. Take care.

willow2 · 22/03/2006 17:44

I write about a lot of pregnancy related stuff and have researched this topic in the past, so speak with a bit of medical knowledge. Essentially, you really must go and get a scan - if the abortion wasn't complete (and many aren't) you are at risk of infection, blood clots and other complications. Please don't delay, get this sorted as soon as possible. xxx

stillhavingnightmares · 22/03/2006 17:57

Thanks willow2, that sounds likely as Ive been having cramps aswell.

I googled "Incomplete abortion" and it says Ill have to have a D/C. Im really scared now, I know this is my fault, but I dont know what to dow. No-one knew about the actual abortion, I booked the day off work and just picked DD up from creche and went home as normal.

I cant belive I have to wait til tomorrow to find out, I think Ill go the surgery in the morning and ask my GP

Thanks again

Er.........its not your fault at all, it is just one of those things, if no-one at home knew did you manage to get a couple of days rest? you may have over done it.

WideWebWitch · 22/03/2006 18:02

Agree, please don't feel bad about this, it's NOT your fault, it's just one of those unlucky things. Call and get an appt first thing tomorrow, good luck.

stillhavingnightmares · 22/03/2006 18:02

I didnt get rest, I was back in work next day

OP posts:
Blu · 22/03/2006 18:03

This isn't 'your fault'. It does sound horrible for you, and I am as concerned about your posting name as I am about the physical problems you are experiencing. It's not your fault, it sounds as if it isn't going smoothly, but that can be sorted out for you.
Are you OK? Don't torture yourself...
have you got a supportive partner?

bundle · 22/03/2006 18:03

i don't think that makes any difference stillhavingnightmares, please don't beat yourself up over this

stillhavingnightmares · 22/03/2006 18:06

The reason for the name is I posted giving support to someone recently who was going to have a termination, and I was telling her how bad the actual procedure was. I felt the foetus coming out etc. Thats what I was having nightmares about, but the I stand by my reasons for having it, and am not beating myself up over it

No to the supportive partner answer, and at the moment its really difficult to get time off work

Thanks again for taking the time out to answer, Im going to surgery tomorrow on my day off

\link{http://www.careconfidential.com/aboutus/furtherinfo/\here, looks like a counselling service and they're open until 9pm tonight, it might help to talk to someone}

beetroot · 22/03/2006 18:08

This happenedn to a friend and the doctor said that a hormone had not kicked in after the termination to stop the bleding. goask your gp

tamum · 22/03/2006 18:09

I hope you manage to get this sorted out without having to have a D and C, but I agree that it's important to get it checked. You poor thing.

expatinscotland · 22/03/2006 18:12

i think i'd go to the family planning clinic rather than a GP. the docs there do nothing but gynaecology, so they're bound to be able to help you.

Blu · 22/03/2006 18:13

OK Smile. Glad to hear that you are not beating yourself up.
Lets hope it gets sorted out simply, quickly and easily, like Beety's friend.
Glad you can see the gp tomorrow- good luck.

Piffle · 22/03/2006 18:16

If you do need a D+C, it usually can be done as a relatively simple (physically speaking) day procedure, although you need to have someone at home with you afterwards.
You cold tell a white lie at work and say sugery for an ovarian cyst perhaps. Could you ask a friend or relative to help you for 24-48 hrs, stating the same reason.
If you are anywhere near me I'd be happy to help out btw
